  • Today l team up with Rob from ‪@walkaboutwithrob‬ and we check out a mysterious section of BEENLEIGH filled with hidden history. Rob is investigating two old roads that drove industry and business to this town but are much overgrown and lost. As I assisted and delved into the bushland, I came across a fascinating old quarry that seems to have been forgotten by time. What happened here back in the day? What was the purpose of this hole?
    Thanks to Rob for some great fun and laughs on this urbanex off track adventure.

    Wow this looks cool, my Daughters best friends family own the farm house along Mt Warren Blvd, her family Great Great grandparents were the original family in Beenleigh and owned all the land from the the M1 back to Bahrs Scrub up to Logan River Parkland and down to around Bannockburn area over 150years ago. They now own one of the biggest Prawn farms out near Cabbage Tree, next time I'm there I will ask her father if he knows anymore about this Quarry etc when it was used etc, when it finished production, would be interesting to find out. 👍

    I was part of the crew that changed the profile of that road back in the day. It was an Albert shire council effort.

    Very cool guys, I grew up in Beenleigh and as a young fella explored all over.
    There is an old mine access opposite that quarry. We used to find green stained rocks and always thought it was a copper mine 😊

      Is there another mine across the road? Do you mean Mt Warren by any chance?

    Behind the waste transfer station used to be a water tank, reservoir for the area. Drive behind that, and there was a dirt road (Wuraga Rd) that led to the then new development of Logan Village. There were a couple of ways, one of which came out opposite the Logan Village Tavern. The water tank looks to have been removed, going by the map.

    Fantastic video JEL... from strength to strength. Very entertaining, great content (glad you didn't disturb and snakes under the car doors) Love the collaboration... I love watching Rob's videos too; I believe he's an Aussie film maker?

    OMG... the opening is so funny 😆 that's so funny because I've just discovered "walkaboutrob" just the other day and did a deep dive into our suburbs... and thought what is it about spiders that people don't like 🤣🤣 although a bite would definitely not be any fun, especially on a hike by yourself....

    I was up there in 1999 the quarry hasn't changed much nor has the dumping unfortunately.
    I have to ask did you shoot the LiDAR footage or is it supplied by the gov. ?
    If you're into quarries have you checked out the Toohey forest one which is allegedly linked via tunnel to Salisbury SS where a bunker was mysteriously found after an arson attack.

    • @jelbuilderfilms
      @jelbuilderfilms  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The Lidar imagery is free on QLD Globe. I did up a video on my channel about how to do this, very easy. The video is about top four hiking apps. Also, thanks for the tip about tooheys quarry... I'll research that a bit more, would be fascinating to find a mysterious ww2 tunnel and bunker. Got any advice where I should begin?

      @@jelbuilderfilms That's great, I'm going to watch that now! My go to researching sites are OZ at War, Trove, SLQ and googling areas that I'm interested in and looking for their historical societies.
      Start at OZ at war for the Salisbury SS bunker. (if you're interested in relics there are bottle dumps behind the factories just down from the quarry). All the best
