For what it’s worth, I’d love to see the outer Hebrides film. Whether it’s just an uncommentated montage of footage or with a half dodgy post commentary, seeing you explore my country and enjoy it means the world. If it’s really that unrealistic to release that footage, you’d better be back to make a proper bloody film once this virus has subsided! Great stories mate, great stories
Beau, I definitely enjoyed watching the collection of partially made films and hearing your thoughts about what went right and wrong in the process. Thanks for showing us your junk!
No matter where you take us on your journeys, Beau, we always feel transported. Or, at least, I do. I always feel like you've brought us along on your adventures and it's soothing and eye-opening all at once. We've done none of the paddling or chopping or eating, but we get a huge benefit from you for doing those things. Thank you
I think we need reminding sometimes that life is just a series of imperfect moments...but it's still worthwhile and wonderful! Thank you for sharing your 4 imperfect films. There's so much wonderful stuff there.
This is amazing. Beau going full circle with his love for junk, creating something out of his own junk. Man, you truly are one of the most underrated filmmakers of youtube.
BEAU BEAU BEAU!!! Not junk dog! I call your kind of filmmaking "personal documentary" or "documentary poems" or "essays" or "portraits"- I dig it man - and the form on these short funky films? They have no form but the form you give it. AND THANKS for putting my TH-cam comment in your book- it made my day- (I had the book for weeks before someone pointed it out that I was in youR book.I LOVE the idea of backyard adventures more than ever. This above was not junk and I am glad you shared them with me. Today I go on a new journey as I get to met my first grandkid. Thanks Beau for all the things you do.
I'd love to see the none talking film of the paddle around scotland just for the images. i think half your movies are the back to basic level of vidiography and taking the landscaped in for a persons view and now some ultra high quality nautre programs that focus on the little details or the extrames or the landscape, yours is from the human eye with a simplistically and charming attitude. I love your videos i could watch them all day, naratored in post or live emotional conversations with the camera. Keep up the great work and one mans junk is another mans tresure!
I always absolutely love a peek into anyone's creative process and especially the funky little bits of stuff that never get shown - figuring how why something DIDN'T work is just as good if not better than seeing why something DID work. You should do this with "junk" or unfinished crafty projects as well!
We do appreciate it! Thank you Beau. You're touching on the aspect of "creative loss" which a lot of people don't even think about. As a musician, I have tens of pieces of music, half written, half forgotten, all in various states of incompleteness, and it strikes me as the sort of junk you talk about here. There's little lessons in each of my junk pieces... So maybe I ought to stitch them all together and create something out of them. Oh, and, if you ever see this comment, I tried to buy your book but it never got delivered. They said it was out of stock. Can you send me your book, about the backyard adventurer? I'll gladly pay. Love ya mate.
The pumpkin project reminds me of a new tradition I have where after Halloween I scavenge the streets for pumpkins and cook with them. Last year my housemates and I consumed about 6 carving pumpkins. Would recommend.
@@cryorime5 I have also heard that a few different cultures also use them as animal food 🙂 Then end up with lots of pumpkin patches bc animal dung is such good fertilizer 😆
It takes a lot of courage to show people your failures. I always love it when creators are willing to explore that side of their work in an open and honest way.
Love your stories about the failed stories. I have adhd, which means i fail to finish A LOT. Your failed projects are great encouragement and in-betweens from where beginners are and and you have grown. You talk about things creators hide: the struggle, the "i don't want to do this now", the loss of narrative, the components of great process. Thanks. Last night I wrote and for the first time got the "flow of storytelling". In my mind, the voiceover and story was told by you.
For me the really appealing thing about your videos is the way you talk and what you say. The scenery is like decoration. I watch your videos because of you. The topics are cool but they are not the meat of your videos. You are the meat/center of your work. That is my impression.
I really like that each one of these 'junk films' taught you a lesson and then you've shared that value with us, talking about the background behind the films and how you would have created them differently.
Beau, even these films leave me wanting more from each of them. Somehow I found your channel a year or so ago and have enjoyed everything you have posted. Please keep posting.
As a content creator its very refreshing to see someone go through their older videos and talk about what worked, what didn't and how you would improve things. I have a few old projects that haven't seen the light of day that I would love to revisit.

This is great Beau and really hits home! I’ve made countless short films that no one has every seen. A lot of the time it’s because I’d give up on filming and never had an ending. Other times I just felt too uncomfortable to talk into a camera with mates around. I think I’ll have to make a video like this every year to show my ones that never made it online. Cheers for your never ending inspiration 👍

It inspires me to look for value in even the most mundane parts of life, a lesson all too important during Quarantine. Thanks for the call back to seeing life as a story thread to be followed.

"I didn't do anymore filming." That literally made me laugh out loud. And it's sad, because I was very curious about where that pumpkin thing was headed.
What you describe and share is creating for the sake of it. Free flow - no matter the outcome. That is contentment in its purest form. That is art in its purest form. Thanks for this.
Back again. It's beautiful to see how you can take stories that deserved to be told and give them their little spotlight, even though they weren't quite right. It kind of shows that everything has purpose, even if it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose.
I love your videos just the way they are, none are good nor bad they just are. You make me think by your awareness of your world and grounded view. I appreciate that people like you are in this world. Please keep exploring and seeing the unfamiliar in the familiar.
Bra Beau... I enjoyed this so much, man. Thanks for sharing! Btw I laughed my ass off when the screen cut to "I didn't do any more filming". I think most can relate to taking on projects and stopping in the middle, for no apparent reason! Good on you for still creating value out of these!
Beau - if there is one thing that I would not tire of watching beyond your current uploads, would be your vlogs. I am not asking for daily, but when you feel the need to upload, I and every other subscriber will eagerly watch.
I'm so sad one degree south didn't make it, love see your big adventure style content. Love the local smaller stuff to but I do a lot of that my self and with 2 young kids I can't get out as much as I'd like so live vicariously through films till they are a bit bigger and can join me. Keep up the great work mate, looking forward to the next bit of content you are content with.
You never waste my time.. The only time wasted is waiting for more content.. and that just adds to the suspense! Fantastic content, awe-inspiring as usual! Please give us more, all the best buddy!
You are my favourite youtube dude. Keep making! MY biggest regret is never wandering around Australia and I hope my boys do it instead and then maybe i can follow them. They loved the walk to work vid.
I learned so much from this one, Beau. I always take away lessons or maybe just a new catchphrase from your films, yet during this film I caught myself truly enjoying the fact that you are explaining how you messed up and how you would fix it. Learning from mistakes, especially while filmmaking, is pivotal. I’m grateful to be a fan of yours, Beau! Cheers from Bellingham, Washington. Also I love the book, man! 1/4 through it, addicted.
Dude totally appreciate this upload. I love making lil videos, and I've experienced most of what you've outlined here, I.e. stopped filming/ stopped talking ect.
Woohoo - thanks Beau this is like a masterclass. Great work, mate! I enjoyed meeting you in Canberra for your book launch - Cheers from an old explorer to a younger adventurer! Stay safe!
This is brilliant Beau! I’m just a beginner at film making and this is just SO HELPFUL!!! And it fits right in to your wheelhouse… making something useful out of discarded bits. I’m very grateful. Back to editing my latest footage that I really do t like that much and trying to make something out of it. Who knows, maybe it will go in the bin as a “crap film” and come back on another day in time. 😊
Beau I've got to say I've only just discovered your films. Without a doubt it's the best thing on the interweb. I've just bought your book and as a serial bibliophile, I can't wait to read it. This film was amazing. You really need to expand on the outer Hebrides.. what an experience. You've inspired me to plant more trees on my farm, to be a better father and to take my kayak into more interesting places. Keep it up mate you're a bloody inspiration.
Beau I have watched and loved 100% of your films. They fill my heart with warmth and joy and they inspire me to be happy and seek adventure. I hope to meet you one day. Please keep up the amazing stories I for one need them in my life. Hope the family is well.
Thanks Beau, your comment about how you sort out the difficult problems in your life while alone on adventures(however you expressed it) was timely and true. I got some stuff to figure out and the adventure for the summer just kept running into all sorts of problems and complications that made me think the rational solution would be to call it off and try again in a year. I'd lost sight of the fact that my life needs to be lived at it's natural pace and sometimes that means 14 days driving an old junk pickup truck 1,000 miles back home to Texas and 1,000 back for some bbq and a long bikeride in the heat. I'm going to have a better perspective and alot more contentment when I get back than if I'd put it off as the rational choice. I appreciate you pointing that out
Thanks Beau for not uploading a VLOG! This was great, learned a lot. Learning from someone's learnings is good. Then again I like stories where all the things are not explained. Or where people won't talk all the time (I'm Finnish, we are quiet). Telling a story and telling (speaking) a story I guess there are not the same. Little bit of both is good. You didn't open everything when paddling in Africa. How could you have when there was so much going on. Damn I liked the pumpkin case! Always hated packing food on my trips, so complicated. I like how your brain works!
Your honesty and sincerity is what makes us all connect with your work. Your honest and critical evaluation of your own work makes you human and relatable. I can't explain to you how important and brilliant this piece of work is. Most people hide their work that they aren't proud of, instead of looking for the good and aknowledging the short falls. You learned and grew. I wish everyone could experience that kind of honest reality.
The irregularity in uploads is what makes it feel so special when you see a new video :)
It really is! All my siblings watch Beau, and when one of us is the first to see a new video we spread the good news like wildfire!

Still baffles me every time I arrive here that Beau doesn't have an order of magnitude more subscribers. Keep it coming man, your videos inspire!
Thanks for not having any junk ADs in between your beautiful Junk.
I'm not gonna lie, I would kill for some Beau vlogs. It felt like a vlog but had a huge piece of Beau in it.
I see a Beau Mile's post, I click. It was certainly not a waste of my time. Yet again another brilliant one, Beau. Well done and thank you.
About half way through the book and it’s awesome. The world needs more people like Beau.
Always so excited when a new Beau Miles video drops. This was definitely worth the upload as you say
As always , I feel so uplifted and have humongous love for this content. To have a teacher like you is such a joy.
Great stuff mate, I just about pee my pants when I see you have a new film up.
Woohoo - thanks Beau this is like a masterclass. Great work, mate!
I enjoyed meeting you in Canberra for your book launch - Cheers from an old explorer to a younger adventurer! Stay safe!
Lucky! I hope he visits US one day
This is brilliant Beau! 😊
I remember when this channel had 14k subscribers. I'm glad to see it grow the way it has.
Beau puts out some of the best content on TH-cam.
Best thing about youtube is when a new Beau Miles video pops up. Loved the book.
I appreciate you pointing that out
Beau, don't ever think you're wasting our time. Your videos are special and worth every minute of attention no matter how garbage you say they are :)
I wish everyone could experience that kind of honest reality.
didn't know you'd come to scotland! its really nice up in the Hebrides, shame it never made it to our screens!
