I thought Bobeats got some good sounds out of it. Also for what ever reason when ever someone demos the sequencer and sample flipping per step, I instantly think of Stimming. I predict he makes it sound good and he likes it!
@@SonicVibe I've not been madly impressed with the demos but I think it was given to people who haven't used a Korg drum synth before. For example you NEED to use the boost effect for kicks to sound good on the Korg stuff, has been like that for 20 years now going back to the ER-1
I like this device, meaning to pick one up. It's like a synth/percussion/drone machine from the future harking back to a digital past before some sort of cataclysm. As Martin says, it's one you want to sample. One-shots and loops seem to pour out of this thing. It's not so useful as a performance-based synth, but for the size and price, I think it's a perfect box of nastiness.
I love this machine. Its fun, and sounds so original. Loads of stuff is borderline unusuable, but it can get so groovy as well. Lovely for industrial sounds as well. Btw, i can highly recommend the interview/documentary about the creator Kakos Nonos over on Vlad Kreimers youtube (soma creator). Its a really really special instrument, made with old east european fridge chips (no joke!) and inspired by traditional east european instruments (no joke either!!). Really makes the machine even more wonderful.
As with all Soma gear, sweet spots are hard to come by, but when you get there, you acheive something compelling, and highly unusual. Can't wait to pair this with the Pulsar-23, and sample the hell out of it.
my new favorite music gear series. i still love factmags against the clock producer challenge, but this is the best gear review series for me now. thank you sir stimming.
I'm actually quite intrigued by the ROAT. It has so much potential for freaky chaos, so I guess it feels _very_ satisfying when one actually managed to create something musically interesting on it. Feels a bit like walking over a pile of dirt, looking for some gems hidden inbetween... Also, I saw some ambient drone vids with the ROAT, so if handled delicately, I suppose it can produce some charming material in a predictable way.
so for the little bit of chaos you use binary code bottom 3 buttons on the left add them to 7 and then tweak the 2 knobs labeled on matrix in row 7 for subtle changes to patch
love mine: not sure any piece of gear makes me laugh like the RoAT does. I think someone below explained the randomness and speed of random change being in row 7 of the matrix. The other key feature about the chaos button to help getting ‘useful’ changes is that whatever row is active on the matrix when you press the chaos button is ‘protected’. So you might like the frequency of the oscillators and so go to that row of the matrix before hitting chaos etc.
soma makes some amazing and innovative instruments, but i dont know what they want to do with this one :D... If you want a good 8 Bit Synthesizer, i would go with the sonicware liven 8 bit. Fun little box which sounds amazing!
i’m now at the point where i hit like right when a stimming video starts and i never regret it when it ends. love you stimmy ❤
Sounds on par with what most modular synth buyers produce, at a fraction of the price. Sold!
I would like to vote for stimming to look at the new drumlogue!
Drumlogue sounds so bad though lol
@@SonicVibe it does and it doesn't. Just wait till new user effects and sounds can be added just like the NTS1. Plus it's not bug ridden.
@@SonicVibe yeah. I've not been impressed by reviews so far

Exactly
Soma stuff is all so wild. Still gassing hard for a Pulsar23.
Lyra8 been on my list for a minute
He says "its all rubbish" and then it literally starts screaming at him 🤣🤣🤣🤣 14:52

Everybody needs a bit of calculated chaos in their lives. I love this thing. Honestly... 15 minutes just wasn't long enough.
That was delightfully weird. I like watching these for Martin's approach to instruments, thanks for the vid!

100%. Couldn‘t say it better.

Martin Du bist einfach der Geilste! Man kann die Sounds und den Rhythmus in Deinem Gesicht ablesen.. herrlich! ❤

💯
It does, that's how I use it.
at about 13 mins I heard some early/mid 70s miles. very cool that lat bit of jamming

Even with a review of a toaster the Stimming videos would be interesting
random is on bank 7. pot 3 gives you the amount of randomness, and pot 4 gives you the speed in which the parameters change.
I would take those UAD pedals instead.
Has stimming never video reviewed the Lyra-8? That needs to happen. Soma makes the coolest stuff.
Stimming, I would love to see you have fun with a ROAT, the Strega and, MG Monolith. I believe in you!
There is a ROAT review already
@@musictalk-tech and, it’s great. But I was saying I’d enjoy seeing a jam with the three above mentioned pieces of kit.
Amazing demo 🔝🔝🔝

The sweetspots are amazing but seemingly few. Is there a similar device in the eurorack format?

or you could have both =D
This is to make dronescapes and noisy distorted worlds. It's not really a synth and more like the Lyra in that it's an a instrument you have to tame.
Stimming => ganz bestimmt gute Stimmung!
These comments are so conservative. Wasn’t electronic music supposed to be about the future and not nostalgia?
Nah, it’s all about 909 clones and old old Rolands and Moogs 😂
8:15 really nice
This thing is fun ☺️
amazing
123781 aliens liked this.
Some interesting bleep bloops for sure.
What do you think of the Roland Aira Compact Series Devices?
circular randomness, also known as chaos 🙂
Wow 😳
Thank you for killing all the mosquitoes in my zip code.
During my break at the Mental Institute this will be great. 🧠🪓
I didn't know you knew Morse code, how dare you say that about my mother!
He has many talents
Stimming can you pls make a vid on how to make 'audio sausages for octatrack' on a free computer program? :D
Ahh, a machine for ASMR clicks!
Having $700 of pedals for a $150 unit seems overkill though
fx gotta sound good!
Tbh, that sounds like an ideal signal chain.
@@iNuchalHead I like your style!
First time I was glad the youtube ad interupted the video 😂
Its all greek to me: kakos= bad nonos= godfather. Ancient times, sounds like somethings brewing on olympus.. or hades?
Dry sound only please! For my sanity 😆
@14:46 that's what you get for insulting it. 😂
Sounds like a pocket operator
needs 4 outputs!
He deff needs some help with this one :)
Another chaos infused car alarm and another TH-camr defeated by a Soma device 😅
This was not really enjoybale for me so waiting for the next one
Try rewatching it muted.
😂
Timer at 8:13 top loop
Anyone get further than 2:37?
"This is all rubbish." Clearly Stimming has no love for Throbbing Gristle and other pioneers of industrial electro :(
wasted money
Awful, sorry 😕
You have to see the potential and like he said find the little Sounds / Samples out of the chaos.
Boring demo
yeah... horrible..
You have to find the beauty inbetween.
