saw this years ago but still trips me out every time. it's mind boggling how the same moves and body positions manifest themselves in totally different people at totally different times in totally different places. Like KRS said, "Don't nobody no where it came from. It's some old, old, human thing.. the desire to spin on the ground."
we as people of color should get credit for breakdancing, because we gave it that style and flair, that you see everyday, like on America's best dance crew, people think those moves are new, we been doing that since the 80s, it's just people weren't exposed to it as much, because it wasn't considered by the majority as real dancin, neither was hip hop, it was a street thing. now it all commercialized
a new move doesn't need to be different. that's what makes this dance so great. you can see two guys do the same move, but you will feel more energy from the other. i believe that there are cases of bitting but most cases, there isn't. i mean, i've done some move that i haven't seen anyone do it at all. the a couple months or later, i see it on the net and shit. so you just have to realize that your brain doesn't operates so different from others. keep motivated. peace.
honestly i didn't put it together and don't know who did...i just found it and put it up here cuz i thought it looked cool, thanks everyone for the compliments though..it is def an essential viewing
hey I'm from Brazil and I wonder if these videos are of a documentary and if so what is the name and this video is a trusted source of some of the origins of the dance I hope many people can see Thank you for your attention peace
I once knew this one dude that would call everyone out on biting just straight annoying, i don't think people really even know what to look for when they're looking for someone biting. It's the style, not the move.
dude bitin don't mean just takin someone else move, it really mean takin some one else move & try to used it again him . i know many bitters around my way!
this video isn't about biting at all, this is The Parallel Scene from the Detours Extended Trails DVD and its about how modern dance parallels dances that have been done in the past.
wow very ispirational, I wonder if its actually possible to improve powermoves within the next 50 years, backspin>windmill>flare>airtrack>who knows whats next?
we all know that we didnt make it up but everyone that made a move up they are original because they fit it in the style that was their own thats why they were original. a animal dosnt dance so you cant call that a bit. but the video is dooooooope i like how you put allot of proof into everything.
I think it's this guy from a TLC/Discovery show from about 3 or 4 years ago on Kung Fu. They did a whole thing with a ton of people in various schools of kung fu, shaolin, wushu, etc, demonstrating and talking.
i must make a point about this biting issue. in the clip, crazylegs is right about the moves being done for thousands of years. no doubt about that. but my arguement is about the ppl who straight up 'copy other ppl' instead of manifesting what they see into their own self. there is a fine line between that and there is a difference! peace -floorstorm
Man, this is not biting, this is the final scene in the movie Detours, this is the parallel scene and it was made to see the different influences in b-boy. The movie was made by Elsewhere, Krazy Kujo, Rawbzilla and Midus, is one of my favorite b-boy videos because it shows the different styles to the dance, not only the traditional style of b-boying.
okay you`re right, great video, i think it was a lot of time to find all these things;) but there was 1 mistake: the (in bboy`s language flare) thomas is not vom gymnastics, it`s from bboying!
If you hadn't already figured out that hip-hop culture is a recontextualization and reorganization of cultures, then you didn't know much to begin. There's a reason why djs and bboys are two of the elements of hip-hop
Crazy Legs: People be probably doin' this shit thousands of years ago...in fuckin' africa. Random Dude: Dinosaurs be doin' that shit... LOL. Anyways much respect to who ever made this video.
they're totally different. of course the similar moves are going to come up again and again because its inevitable. biting is when you see a move that is somebody else's and you take that move and claim that it's your own. very different things. this clip is talking about how there's similar movements and feelings in different disciplines of arts and dances. the clip is not about pointing fingers at bboys who bite moves that they saw in kung-fu flicks.
there is a better quality vid of this if anyone wants to see these things more clearly just search "the origins of breakdance" It's the first vid and the ending is better too
I think the title is fine. Because people misunderstand what biting really means, so therefore when they see the clip they'll realize that what they thought was a bite, really isn't. Plus it probably wouldn't get as many views if it wasn't called history of biting.
this video is just showing you that people used to do this way before anyone else did, hence to call something your own move would be arguable , some1 somewhere else in a diff time or diff place could have done it also
The concept of this video is the truth but the name of this clip should actually be,History of" Originality"in Breaking, because even if ever single breaker from all over the world saw this it would not changes a thing one bit. Biting is the term we use for when some one else takes something from an other b-boy and use it as there own, saying that they did that particular thing before who ever it may be.STOP F**KING BITING! B-Boy Trap-Full FX Crew
Hip Hop is no longer a culture for just one race. It is international. it links different races together and thts the beauty of it. We are all BBoys and BGirls therefor we are all Hip Hop. Stop arguing with each other because you are destroying everything Hip Hop stands for today. PEACE
Nope. You missed point. The part in the title where it says biting, is put in quotations. "biting". Because alot of people think that's what biting is. Obviously it's not. The title is not to be taken literally. That's why biting is in quotes so that people who DO think that's what biting is, will realize moves have been done before at different times by someone else.
It all depends on how specific and distinct a move is...but I really didn't the Jesus, the Kangaroo, and the Motorcross rider will be calling anyone biters anytime soon
yeah, so for all those crews that have a bad habit of calling almost everyone/everything a biter (cough cough Gamblers cough cough Rivers cough cough) Just hit em with some knowledge.
True dat, the only thing that came from azns is the martial arts or tricking. In reality azns just learned about bboying, we're the latest to learn about this dance. Most of the styles of dance originated from alot of ethnics. Different ethnics contributed different arts. James brown had his amazing footwork, azn had tricking with the flips and flying stuff, egyptians had the lil tuting thing.
lashid is actually right.... (as far as where the dance came from) theres no way to absolutely know where it came from, except it being inspiration from various sources. That in itself is the only truth regarding its origins. bboying cannot be, with 100% accuracy, traced to one form or dance or kata or culture. Except the fact that belongs under the umbrella of hiphop culture I cant believe that dude made a reference to planet bboy... lol.
thats not the real mean of bite in the break dance. el verdadero significado de no copiar no es no cojer ideas de otras culturas y otras danzas la idea de NO BITE significa no copiar al resto de los bboy y crear asi tus propios movimientos. por eso es freestyle, no?
I apoligize for offending anyone in my previous posts months back i jus realized how much of an ass i sounded like. all i was trying to say is that now on tv you have shows like americas best dance crew and you think you can dance back in the day all you had was movies. or you had to be from the streets or watch soul train. And all i want people to see is that these moves on tv aint nothing new i dont know why youngins get excited about it it's all old school dances manifested in new times
breakdancing is a mixture of other styles of dance with basic hiphop moves making your own style so i don't know how its biting so please wouldn't you posting this vid be biting wow your coping other people by posting videos i believe you understand me right its not biting its letting the world know new or old things correct?
No, the video has nothing to do with race. It's showing how dance manifests in similar ways in different cultures at different times all around the world. Also, everything, to some degree, has been done before so it's stupid to call people biters because everyone at some point is a biter.
so your not sayin what i said was wrong but i shouldnt receive no credit, wat im sayin is that black people dont benefit the rewards of the artform anymore
saw this years ago but still trips me out every time.

I like the end
"Imitation is the highest form of flattery"
those shaolin monks were incredible!

That's Crazy Legs from the Rock Steady Crew, maybe he was talking to his crew, man he is a legend in breaking history.
Wow :) ... This opened my eyes a lot !'
honestly i didn't put it together and don't know who did...i just found it and put it up here cuz i thought it looked cool, thanks everyone for the compliments though..it is def an essential viewing

Check out part 1 too.

i must make a point about this biting issue. in the clip, crazylegs is right about the moves being done for thousands of years. no doubt about that. but my arguement is about the ppl who straight up 'copy other ppl' instead of manifesting what they see into their own self.
there is a fine line between that and there is a difference! peace -floorstorm
even styles are being copied now and we dont even realize it and its part of the evolution if u think about it
people bite to get their idea of breaking in their head. then they create moves of their own later on.
very nice video

If I where to use the name Crazy Foot and start doing all of Crazy Legs moves that would make me a STICK AZZ BITER!
this video is just showing you that people used to do this way before anyone else did, hence to call something your own move would be arguable , some1 somewhere else in a diff time or diff place could have done it also
