I been watchin these movies for years & people thought I was crazy like when I told them about the dude doing head spins in "The Wild Boys on the Road 1933..and swipes etc. finally someone put it all together !! Loved it !! Thanks ............
man..what a sick upload, most impressed by the headspins and 1990's that i saw, never thought those 2 moves went back that far...im a b-boy since 84' and this was a pleasure to watch...
Plus the culture never started with "acrobatic" moves, it began with the "rocking" and footwork, the acrobatic moves were later on added to it as it evolved and grew more popular.
I'm really surprised to see this kind of dancing already existed at that time, spinning on the head before there was even color movie ? Amazing, thanks for sharing.
bboying is about originality... and these guys inspired the future bboys so..we can't say that they don't deserve the title of ''first bboys'' but we can't say that they truly are...so just give em respect and don't talk too much about the title being apropriate or not.
Break dancing incorporates ALL THE ELEMENTS seen in this video including acrobatics. Anyone with eyes can see there is no real difference except the clothes, the time period & the fact break dancing was/is a culture.. Here's an Idea- put old period music to some B-boy videos and see that it works in reverse. Their moves will fit perfectly. Better yet... put those old clothes on them along with the music and see if there's any real VISUAL difference!
breaking comes from a mixture of gymnastics/martial arts and ballet...as mentioned by chino of the new york city breakers in a late 1970s video clip (its on youtube)...these guys used to watch a lot of kung fu movies in the 70s and many breaking moves come from these movies...capoeira has had limited influence if any.
what an amazing video!!! and the music is fantastic - some of my favourite electro tracks that have been fantastically remixed...i am shocked by some of the moves in this video - absolutely amazing!!! 1990s/headspins/swipes/uprocking/top rocking...and i loved the two king tut guys - great co-ordination and so funny!!. so much for bboying coming from the bronx in the 70s...load of bullshit!!. the only thing missing here is kung fu...many bboy moves came from the kung fu films of the 70s!!
i also noticed what looked like one footed swipes and some pop locking moves that i seen ozone from the movie breakin do,was that nat king cole bustin the moonwalk...some raw ass footage here...
breakdancing isnt a culture, its a part,an element of the HipHop culture. It is different from what you can see in the video. It has certain similarities, because breaking evolved from this(well, sure was inspired), but man its something else. Breaking isnt just moves, but a dance. TopRocking, going down to a footwork, freezes, than airmoves....bboys/bgirls gotta have some flava, style...flow in what they're doing...and music is the most important.....dictates the way you move...you know
just missing a few like slave trade dancing, capoeira and some of the afro & caribbean dances. deffo got to say it that first bgirl crew was more of a gymnastics crew without and dance just flips/acrobatics. but still a good video nice upload
Seems U R contradicting yourself by saying breaking isn't a culture, but then say it's an element of something that's well known as being a culture. Hmmm. In simple terms a culture is anything that is a way of life of a group of people that indulge it constantly. Hip-hop, skateboarding, gang-banging R just a few examples. Breaking is a Hodge-podge of different elements. I think the video simply shows how closely related different dances are. We know it's not literally breaking.
I give props for being able to connect how many of the elements of bboy-ing and b-girling actually came from, were influenced by, and were adopted from many styles, techniques that were done in the past but bottom line, what was presented in this clip is NOT hip-hop or bboying/bgirling. in some of the clips, they were taken out of context, culturally and historically. keep that in mind but other than that, much love for showin da roots/influences of bboy/bgirl-ing go way back than just da 70's
further more all of the break dancing you see today is for show, lots of gymnastics etc. the whole hip hop culture has been commercialized. its great thats it has spread into other parts of the world but its lost its meaning, the voice and expression of those with NO voice and ignored in the mainstream culture. Same with Art and anything else!
IS IT? IS THE INSTRUMENTAL? DOESNT SEEM LIKE THE SAME. REMIX MAYBE? I TRIED TO FIND THAT VERSION BUT NO LUCK.SUMTHIN LIKE A NANANANANANA. SOUNDS LIKE THE HOOK.I REMEMBER WHITE LINES.
This video is cool, but I believe you do have a point. These clips are from all over with different styles of dance represented in different times. For someone to see the similarity in these moves and take this from here and that from there to make what we know as breaking today is extraordinary! Breaking was not an established form of dancing in those days so these are not b boys and girls. I get you! It's easy to see this and say certain things in retrospect.
Lol! I just get what you're saying. And I know how you feel for sure. People are too quick to try and discredit others because something (somewhat) similar came before it.
The collection of videos is really great But there is a difference between breaking(bgirling/bboying) and gymnastics. Breaking is a dance. So calling it first bgirl crew is wrong... They arent bboys,bgirls...They inspired future bboys,bgirls..
what are you people talking about, these are a bunch of cut and paste clips, no routines, NO soul, no flavor not even on a beat. So yes. moving your feet and back flips have been done since the beginning of time, Break Dance culture is a different beast! this is NOT the origins of break dance, do you really think youths from the streets in the Bronx were studying charlie chaplin or any of these other people before they rolled into a battle? lol you must be from the Midwest
I been watchin these movies for years & people thought I was crazy like when I told them about the dude doing head spins in "The Wild Boys on the Road 1933..and swipes etc. finally someone put it all together !! Loved it !! Thanks ............
Why are people taking it so literal , this shit here is dope !! thank you !!
What sets our dance apart from others is the footwork. Footwork is basically the spine of this dance, what makes it unique!
man..what a sick upload, most impressed by the headspins and 1990's that i saw, never thought those 2 moves went back that far...im a b-boy since 84' and this was a pleasure to watch...

6:42 shes a beast!!!

Could you please list where all of the clips come from. These look great!!
The Nicholas Brothers should have been shown, too.
My opinion.
he spun his head on concrete
