Saber Interactive made a statement that the game will have Steam Deck optimization sometime in December or the first half of 2025. Definitely going to get this when there’s a steam sale.
@@SteamDeckHQif you turn off shadows and tone down the reflection of the water you will gain performance also I am use the LCE deck and have been getting 30s to mid 20s fps I’ve had 1 very slight stutter during the first mission as a ultra marine as you showed in the video and been enjoying since
Thank you for giving us an early review for Steam Deck performance, I'm hopeful the developers can optimize the game with patches over the next few weeks/months. Still shocked we have this sequel after 13 years and I'm excited for us all to play asap!
Really nice to see Saber's plans to support the Deck with this one. Appreciate the current-version demo - it's actually kind of staggering to see a day-one AAA title on a Linux handheld being almost completely playable!
thank you for testing this! i was thinking of getting it for my deck but i'll probably wait until its optimized although i most play my deck docked to my tv. still i want to have it run smooth.
i have noticed huge performance gains with the last two updates (pre-release and day 1 patch). granted, sm2 also is the game that pushed my to try overclocking as it was the first thermal bound game i have, which is surprising considering i have over 200 hours on helldivers 2 deck time. i also won the silicon lottery, but the game runs so much better in just a week. cant wait to see what improvements come in the future
A RAM crash in this case is when the game tries to use more RAM or memory than the system has. This can cause your entire system to crash and you have to reboot. A swap file is a file made on the computer that acts as RAM. It’s significantly slower, but it can act as more RAM so your system doesn’t crash.
All gpu processes are CPU processes. You are used to serious pc cpus, where they are so powerful that they can handle the gpu tasks, but the deck CPU will have an effect lowering graphics
@@OliverStogden The CPU has a minimum amount of power that it can consume (you will never consume 3/4 of the apu's power on the cpu) to make sure that ressource is efficiently shared accross the apu, the limiting factor is cpu because you have to optimize the code for better pathfinding (which is a minor part of the issue), skinned mesh (which is the main issue with having a lot of character on screen just like baldur's gate act 3), kinematic (character monement), AI (which is mostly part of the issue).
@@aviatedviewssound4798 The Steam Deck's CPU can and does take up 3/4 of the APU power, as it frequently hits 10W power draw, meaning it's important to keep GPU power draw below 5W to make sure the CPU gets as much power as possible

They did! We did cover that in the video as well, but wanted to go over how it is out of the box now.

So it's basically like playing helldivers 2 on the deck..... Let's goooooooooo

Thanks for the extensive testing, I shall wait and hope for better performance on SD.
We can’t wait for this to be playable!
Short and infornative! Great video!
Thank you so much!

That’s valid! We are hopeful it’ll be in a better state when the team optimizes it.
Yes Space Marine 1 is amazing on the Steam Deck OLED but ill be getting Space Marine 2 on my Series X
Space Marine 1 was an Xbox 360 game; it's ancient by gaming standards.

Will check it now!
Can't wait to test this as well, but nice one for the early view, I can see why they said it wasn't ready for the deck yet lol
Going to be streaming it to my deck via Moonlight
Good to know it runs OK on Linux at least. It was always going to be tough ask for the deck with those enemy swarms.
That’s fair. I do think it will get better as they optimize the game later this year though!
Thank you for the detailed video.
Thanks for the review. Was this tested on the LCD or OLED model?
It was tested on an OLED model.
Thank you so much for making this
Thank you for watching!!
Great video, covered all questions I had
I’m so glad! Thank you for watching.
Does the online stuff work? I know at some point they were saying it would use easy anti cheat...
It does use easy anti cheat. Hard to tell since servers were down most of the time during testing, but I’ll check when it goes live for early access.
Is this on a lcd? Saw another vid of an oled in the low 30s or high 20s
OLED
Such good info thanks!
Thank you for watching!

@@SteamDeckHQ Thanks for your feedback. Did you try the game on the ASUS ROG Ally X ?
@@edokk I have! It's the way I am mainly playing now. Definitely more playable there.
@@SteamDeckHQ can you plz share a video ?
GeForce NOW it is - thanks for testing 🙏
That’s a good alternative for SM2 for sure.
It would seem like a good option. I believe the game is already confirmed for a GFN release too?
@@OliverStogden yes, believe it's confirmed to be coming to GFN day one
Reducing resolution only works for GPU-bound games, this is a CPU-bound game.
That’s fair. The game was really pushing both CPU and GPU hard overall.
All gpu processes are CPU processes. You are used to serious pc cpus, where they are so powerful that they can handle the gpu tasks, but the deck CPU will have an effect lowering graphics
Lowering GPU load can leave more power free for the CPU, however. So in CPU-bound games, it can still be a good idea to lower graphical settings.

Legion Go? Anyone tested it?
It should be playable, but I’d reduce resolution to 1280x800 and stick to lower-ish settings.
I put the the settings on medium and got 30 fps .
In all areas or just the prologue? There’s too many outside areas or very detailed inside areas that drop, especially with large groups of enemies.
steam deck 2 FPS ?
Stock steam deck always better than one with cryo etc…
ehhh, another nazi russia game, that's a skip. i suggest stop promoting saber
Nice racism.
Yeah look at the real racist outing himself to us!
Shut up, please.
