My dad has a 73 Ford Galaxie 500 4 dr hd top. Bought it new. Pwr Stering, brakes, Air, automatic, 400 engine. He rebuilt the engine at 297K miles (is an auto mechanic) and now has 120K on it. Great running, doesn't use oil. In great shape. Rides great and very good mpg.
I have a '73 Galaxie 500!! I bought it last year from an old man. This is so cool to see! I never paid it any mind before but it DOES ride pretty quiet! It's a lot of fun to drive and I get stares eveywhere I go. Great Car!!
Yeah, my Galaxie has the stock 351 Windsor. I thought about swapping it out for a 400 but with the way gas prices are now, the 351 is actually pretty ideal. Plus, I already put a lot of work into it and it's a great engine! I popped the hood for somebody once and they were totally shell shocked to see how great it looked. I can't stress enough how great they are to drive.
I had to get a motor mount replaced last week after the old one cracked while I was parked uphill, tried to pull out and knocked my linkage out of whack. Really scary experience! I also had my carb rebuilt, new fuel line, had a clamp put on the exhaust and it drives like a brand new car. I couldn't believe the difference.
I just got mine tuned up from top to bottom and put a set of Indy 500 Firehawks on it. Next year I'm gonna put in a new carb and get it sanded and repainted since the paint is pretty weather beaten and I've got a couple of rust spots. Your LTD has a 400 right?
I blame the TV show Supernatural for getting me interested in old American muscle cars and land-yachts...... and I blame Streets of San Francisco for making me have a soft spot for the '73 Galaxie. (and when I say 'blame' i really mean 'thank')
