    I learned how this can happen with my 170 at just over 100 jumps WAY up at a safe altitude. Don't do aggressive shit down low!

    Usually it's better to practice canopy maneuvers in the holding area on the safety altitude first, then we know more about canopy. Also this toggle turn was totally stupid, I think it was for epic movie

    It’s a good idea to do this on purpose at altitude so you can see how hard of a turn your canopy can handle before it throws you into a line twist.

    Could body position help or hinder the potential for this occurring, i.e. linetwist after aggressive toggle turn?

    • @ov4457
      @ov4457 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely dont consider myself a swooper but the problem wasnt just the agressive toggle turn, it was the super agressive right-left combination which is allways a big no. Cant say much else than to get enough experience handling your canopy up on safe altitude

    • @sarge4826
      @sarge4826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Skyhooks and RSLs are designed as a backup saftey device, and shouldn't be relied on. Even with RSLs, people have died from chopping too low. You shouldn't cutaway below 1000 ft, skyhook or not, except for some two out scenarios.

    would it be possible to flare and land if he just grabbed the back lines above the line twist?saw something similar in base

    • @yarpos
      @yarpos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      base canopies and skydiving canopies are different beasts. Line twists on a base canopy generally not equal spinning, high rate of descent etc

    • @markooooo247
      @markooooo247 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +yarpos I know that but the question is:would the canopy even be able to flare if he pulled the ropes?

    • @yarpos
      @yarpos 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      markooooo247 flaring is the least of his problems, no point until the spin is controlled. In theory , if g forces allow you could do it buts results would vary depending on canopy, wing loading and mal type. I doubt any good would come of it. Just a way to keep busy until you go in.

    • @noseudian
      @noseudian 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      the pull sequence is not in the video. at the beginning the slider is already tied and the breaks undone. just bad timing(altitude) for a self-induced linetwist, glad he is ok.

    • @trolololinger2870
      @trolololinger2870 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, I just realized that the canopy seemed to be perfectly fine at the beginning.. which makes it even scarier for me :o

    • @noseudian
      @noseudian 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just don't be too agressive with your toggle inputs, you'll be fine. you can see that he did a turn to the right and then a quick super steep turn to the left

    • @noseudian
      @noseudian 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it might help to losen the chest strap as it opens up the risers and makes it harder to get into twists (but treat with caution). still if your body is going into a differnet direction than your canopy you're gonna have a bad time

    Ever heard of a thing called emergency procedures? Or maybe even decision altitude?

    • @gouda2872
      @gouda2872 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Decision altitude is at 2500 feet. He was well below that. He was at 850 feet. In this situation, it's taught to pop out your reserve with no cutaway to get extra fabric over your head. I was also taught to not do aggressive maneuvers under 2000 feet. Swooping is a different story but this wasn't even a swoop. He toggled turn one way and then aggressively toggled the other way. No swoop flare with a front riser turn. This was all kinds of FUGLY!

      no hook turns at this altitude :D if you tear down one toggle so violently you can expect that reaction from the canopy- on 3000ft that's uncomfortable, on 850ft you play with your life.
