You probably aren't doing THIS with your Domino

  • Most of the content woodworkers see on TH-cam about the Festool Domino has to do with how fancy it is and whether the alternatives are just as good. Fewer videos and articles actually help new users of the Festool Domino understand how to make good use of it beyond the basic plunge we all know and love, whether you use your hands or not.

    When marking I like to indicate which should be cut on the tight setting or medium setting. Also if I'm doing an offset domino I'll mark depths too. It's easy for me to forget to check all my settings before starting a cut, so visual reminders are a big help.

      I 100% agree. What marks we use is far less important than just developing a workflow for making those decisions and checkpoints prior to drilling. Thanks for watching!

    Hey. Really enjoying your work. You are so right about little jigs and fixtures. I “grew up” in a production shop, and I still have that mindset*. Subbed and looking forward to more.
    * I started when I was 16. I’m 66 now.

      Thanks Tom! Come on! Surely you can get the same result with a doweling jig or a router! 😜

      @@sturdyboneswoodworking 😂 can’t do the hip thrust with those. At least that would look weird 🤣😂🤣

    I draw a little mortise outline where i need to drill the mortise to avoid blunders. Mainly for the middle of wide board with vertical plunges. Easy to go on wrong side of the line there.
    I also mark reference sides on boards where the mortise is not 100% center as with your example of vertical plunges, i set my domino fence to 10mm for vertical pieces pretty much always irrespective of piece thickness.
    Hope that makes some sense to someone!
    Great tips, i also hid my little toggle clip things as i found they sometimes prevent domino from going flush with workpiece

    Just found your channel, great stuff so far. I would love to see an example of how you use those jigs in your tip #1.

      Hey thank you! And fair point. I think somewhere along the line a b-roll shot got removed 😅 I now realize. The idea is to hang the edge of the little block on the workpiece and mark the lines from the ends of the jig. Let me know if that helps.

    Not a bad video. Well informed and good quality. Try to go by memory or just get more takes. It may be a bit more of a hassle on editing, but it's less distracting than you looking off to one side to read. Keep it up.

      Great advice. This was for sure an experiment. I think in the future I’m gonna try scripting a bit more and maybe a teleprompter. Thanks so much for watching and for the feedback.
