The irony that the ticket inspector is a better singer than the busker!
Big props to that station manager for sending one of his team (and probably making his own job of managing the station harder) out with the lady and making sure she got home safe!
In the United States, fare evasion has become such a problem that most every major subway network has stopped using in-person fare inspectors and rely solely on police. A fare inspector approaching someone in a US subway could easily be attacked, stabbed, shot, or even killed. Say what you want about Britain, at least their citizens still (for the most part) respect authority.
The self proclaimed "greatest country in the world"
Don't be mistaken it is slowly heading that way as well.
This channel is so underrated.. ❤️❤️
💯💯💯
When I was in Australia about three years ago and the temperature in Melbourne was in the 30's, I noticed that hats that had to be worn as part of a uniform always had some kind of mesh vent around the top to allow for ventilation.
Ok
the ticket inspector has a nice singing voice
This is very old. We haven’t used Fahrenheit for a long time.
Only Brexiters use it
4:23 if I heard someone dhout my name like that on the walkie I'd think I've done something horribly wrong
This channel is just awesome
Marvelous caring people.
Surely they can design a hat for hot weather wear.
"If Ken Livingston gets in..." this documentary must be pretty old
and London has gone heavily downhill since those days :(
It's from 2002
It was made in 2002. I was 12 years old
@@NickLitten OK gammon
If you’re gonna charge a fortune for travel AT LEAST make the conditions appropriate. People FAINTING is so dumb.
“Cost a lot of money” they recently used over £200M for the Queen’s funeral. A person that is dead. This world is so lost.
Darren Smith is an Underground, "David Brent"
WOW, astonishing editing 🙃
A right pair of George Michaels. ❤❤🤣
The last thing that lady wanted was a camera in her face
I think it's disgusting that only when the temperature reaches a certain degree then you're allowed to open your shirt, loosen your tie etc. Even as a bus driver i get the same crap. I decide when it's too hot. No one is gonna tell me when I should loosen my tie or open my shirt. Bloody buskers....if they're that good then why don't they go on X Factor, or better yet get a job??
Schools do the same. There's many cases of them telling pupils that they have to wear uniform blazers or jumpers in the heat and then the kids end up fainting
The Congestion alone would drive me crazy ! How much is the basic fare?
2 quid
A day on the tube is £7-£15 depending on how far you are travelling, for example if you are going through zone 1 it costs more than if zone 2 is the limit of your travel, and travelling to zone 9 costs a lot more than zone 5
@@memediatek yes not 20 years ago tho when this was filmed
Er did he say the busker should be shot?! I mean he is annoying and a nuisance but that's a bit strong isn't it?
It's just a turn of phrase, I don't think he rushed off to grab a gun.
It's just London-Speak
Couldn't they have built new as Subway Cars that had air conditioning units pre-installed or buy from Bombardier type companies. Similar to what Toronto's TTC did for their Subways?
As explained in the video, there isn't enough room for the equipment on deep level underground trains.
Heat exchange is a fundamental concept. Heat has to be dissipated and much of the ground in London is mostly clay which over time dries and loses its capacity to absorb heat. Air comes from the exposed areas above and if it’s very warm heat builds up from it in the deep level which adds to the heat produced by the trains and people below. As an engineering challenge it is a very difficult one. Luckily, it is only a problem when the air outside is very warm which is mostly not an issue in London on most days. When it is a problem it can become unbearable.
Why was there a random stop in video for a few minutes. just a black screen
To annoy you.
This is a direct copy from the original broadcast VT, the black space is for the in-programme ad break. The clock at the end of the black is to tell the technicians when the programme is about to resume, so they can time the switch from the ad-reel VT to the programme VT.
4:55 Still the same now. 6:00 The problem.
What show is this and when did it air
It's called The Tube, it's from 2003.
93 ° ?
Degrees in what?
The UK has been officially using centigrade/ Celsius since ....
1961.!
UK radio stations never broadcast an air temperature in anything other than centigrade or Celsius.
Very strange .
The woman seems so annoyed sitting there and missing a day of work. Jeeze those english trains are packed, I thought that was only in Japan where they squeeze many people into them as possible. The guy with the guitar is sure persistent. Maybe they should arrest him if he's creating a nuisance.
IF he has a license for busking, then there's nothing they can do apart from move him to a different area IF he is causing nuisance. IF he doesn't, then they can arrest him.
@@GenGamesUniverse Not true, section 6 railway byelaws causing a nuisance on the railway. It gives the police the power of arrest or to use force to remove someone from the station.
London underground is way too expensive
Wow 2003
More like 2000. They talked about when Ken Livingstone came in. He became Mayor in 2000
2002 actually. The service information poster at 22:27 says
“Date: 16/08/2002”
does anyone know why they referred to the temperature in fahrenheit in this? i’m curious
Because it was 2002, and despite celsius being adopted as the standard for temperature some 40 years prior, many people (especially of the older generations) were more familiar with fahrenheit. It was for audience appeal.
Wearing the hat shouldn’t be a priority. Staff welfare needs to be priority.
This was filmed back in 2000. Things were a bit different
Busking isn't illegal. Buskers have to audition for the london underground. Catherine Jenkins famously busked the underground in disguise for the press. There are endless Busking locations on London tube stations and coach stations. Busking isn't begging either since it has been legal since the late 18th century and provides value for the public considering buskers don't beg or state they need a certain sum of money from a person donating freely to their passion. Busking brings tourism
Busking was illegal as per the LU by-laws, which apply on LU property. Besides, this was in 2002, before the busking licence system was introduced.
Fare evaders...
Esp if barrier jumpers
Are boundary breakers
Probably have done other bad things!
24:11 please stop.
Better than the busker.
What a difference Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson. I'd take Ken Livingston any day..
Air con the underground stations and the trains, Ha Ha that will cost a few quid, never happen, never mind the paying public
Increase the Penalty fare to £100 and Make free public transport under 25
Or
Make free public transport for university students and deduct from their tuition fee (Tie business with London universities)
CRIMINALIZE SCOFLAW STATEMENTS
It’s theft, theft is a crime
only a thief himself would say that
OK Decriminalise paying air fares, petrol, cab fares etc. Have a word with yourself.
Fare evasion should lead to prison
who are they to say if someone is in my way?
Allow the white guy bro
He had a receipt you moran
Ancient content.
get the busker arrested harressment to to yourself
Here's a novel idea, why not buy a ticket for your journey.
Fellow black man hating on a poor black man wow
'yeh , now youve stood up yah getting the blood back to your head' what an illogical vacuous comment' and you wouldn't need to book an app to see a gp under those circumstances
...the Brits never heard of air conditioners? Israel can do it but you?
They don't fit on the deep level trains. Just look at the size of them as people get on and off.
J Moore....the Brits created Israel dude, I'm sure they could put air con if they wanted.
Our underground is Victorian. Nothing in Britain was designed for extremely hot weather because it's very unusual. Our Summer weather is rain, rain and sunny spells between more rain.
Putting air con into 300 year old, deep tunnels is just too expensive and difficult
@@Msdinomite 300 is a bit optimistic buddy, the first deep level line opened in 1890. Even the Metropolitan Railway, the oldest underground urban railway in the world, is only 160 years old.
Catching fare evaders? Who gives a fuck? Don't they have something better to be doing.
Obviously _they_ do. They rely on revenue to ermm... pay people's wages, the utility bills, maintenance and new trains. Do you think everything should be free?
Or more to the point, why should your £20 travelcard go up to £25 the next year because they lose too much money from people not paying the right amount or getting away with paying nothing
What's better than catching trespassers who haven't paid their fare.
The system costs a lot to operate and maintain, so why should reprobates ride free at the expense of others.
