I hope you enjoyed this video and can apply or relate to some of these tips! Are there any others you think are really valuable for new/aspiring artists to know? 👇👇👇
Do you know how to know if pencil sharpeners are good?? I know its a dimb question but i need some info! My sharpener is making my pencils more dull and they break easily
Thank you for mentioning patience. This is the most elusive for me. I worry that it's taking too long and maybe I'm doing it wrong. As I follow all the other tips and my skills improve each pet portrait takes longer. Thank you for this video. It was reassuring that I'm on the right track.
Emma Devost I think it’s one of the most important ones and people often want to rush through something. Just take your time, everyone works in different ways and time scales 💖
This actually really helped me! Especially the patience one. If it’s just the first minute I feel like it looks horrible, but now I know that I can fix it and not to just quit!😊
Lots of helpful advice - thanks Amie - think it would be a good idea for me to write the tips on a piece of paper and keep looking at them while I am using coloured pencils.
great information but PLEASE can you make a specific video on JUST how to sharpen coloured pencils. Mine break when I use electrical pencil sharpener so im not using that anymore. Just using hand held sharpener and fine surgical exacto knife and fine sand paper .
Thanks Amie! I'm just getting started with colored pencils. I'm excited about it but a bit nervous so I'm trying little pieces of the whole (and eye, an ear, etc) before assembling them all together. Well, I hope it works. Thanks again. Your art is fine!
Love this. Thank you for sharing. I’m new to this drawing ‘stuff’, but thought I’d like to have a go. Excellent advice, and very useful for beginners, easy to understand along with the demonstrations. Love the sound of your voice too. Thank you ❤️
Patience , dedication gets you results .. as seen here .. well done . You are art purrrsonified 🐾 … Would love to know what ( brand or brands ) of pencils you use , i tried reading & taking screen shots , but it went blurred , the only pencil i saw was a white prisma one .. the rest were out of focus for me … thankyou so much lovey
Awesome you are really good in this how do you get these all i always try to do like these drawings but finally I crush the paper and it is in the garbage
10 dislikes. HOW? This is excellent instruction. This person is giving professional HELP that you can truly learn from. Real Artist. Thank you so much. Amazing.
Oh thank you so much! I havent drawn a realistic animal before and these tips really helped!! I have questions. What pencils do you use? And do you sketch the animal before you colour as in sketch the fur?
Thanx, but how do you find the right color? How do you decide which colors to use? With a colorpicker in photoshop or an app like Arty or do you have another tip to pick the right color?
Question: does it matter which paper you use? Like i always use a skechbook but can you also use printer paper or does it need to be a special kind of paper to draw realistic animals?
Wonderful advice and your work is lovely. Any tips on how to get those valuable reference photos. I shun away from free stock photos because I'm not sure on how trustworthy some of the internet site are.... Do you take your own images and any tips on how you take them..What sort of camera... Thanks for your great video..
I tend to use pixabay or wildlife reference photos for artists (site) and I do have a selection of my own to work from, as well as a few submitted to me for use by photographer friends :) If i take my own, I use my canon 80D DSLR =D
@@Amiehowardart tnx I have a cannon also but there is so many options I get confused with the settings. Is there a good general setting I can use at the zoo. And for a meter or two away
Hi I just started animal pencil drawings x I would love to start using coloured pencils x I brought some caran d ache pencil but the white will not go over any other colour x what white do you use x
Thank you!!!! I do have a lot of trouble with fur!!! 😂 I see one thing and I draw an other!! Such big skill we need to do this! Congrats on your video!
Well I been looking in the comments to see how the tips helped them and I guess there r some good reviews so I hope ur helpful for me! And btw I’m 10 and I wanna improve I been looking at other videos but it didn’t really help so much but I hope this video helps well tysm I really do like animals to so yeah!
thank you so much for this video because I am still very young but I really dont want to be a poor person not to be very rude its just because my parents always thought me to not ever give up and be small headed when older but I dont really still know what job to have and I had a dream of being an artist but im always so lazy to do things or practice art and I just really want to change in the world I am trying to make goals to not be so lazy
I don’t know what kinda of color pencils to get cause mine r just from the dollar store it’s like only 12 colors and it’s boring if that fine or do I need to get some at like hobby lobby 😂
Amie- your art is beautiful! Please don't take my next comment the wrong way, as far as drawing instruction not the best. Here is why: the first topic you spoke about is a reference photo. You drew for over 2 minutes and you did not make one comment about what you were drawing, the color you were using, or the technique. Sadly, that seems to be the norm. I have literally watched hundreds of videos trying to learn the right techniques to draw my kitties, but nobody actually takes the time to talk through what they are doing to get that look. That first part of the cat is amazing. just watching you I have zero clue how you are doing it. Everyone literally says the same few things, to layer your colors, how exactly do I layer them. If you want to turn your tutorials into a very successful business, grab a friend who doesn't draw, sit them in front of you with an outlined cat head and talk them through step by step how to make those fur lines and achieve the color patterns. NOBODY does it well at all. Your animals are amazingly real!! make tutorials like that and people will be signing up to buy. Also, when you make drawing videos, keep doing what you are doing with the reference photo staying in a corner of the screen. I would say 1 out of 20 "tutorials" do what you do so you are watching a super sped up drawing being born in front of you and you have no idea what they are looking at or what is going on. Just so you know, I have only commented on your video's because I think your drawings are literally the best on youtube and I have been drawing for 2 months now watching every video I can.
Thanks for your comment, but this wasn’t intended as an instructional video, it’s tips on how to improve animal drawings. If you look through my channel, you’ll find real time tutorials which explain exactly what to do and how 👌
Hi Amy, I absolutely love your videos I love to draw animals especially big cats/ or any type of feline and wolves/ any kind of canine, you've inspired me so much and I watch your videos all the time so thanks so much :) P.s- a little cat for you :) ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
Thank you so so much m this helped me a lot , I’m a beginner , just got my PrismaColours, and I’m gonna make a video soon ! If you could comment on that video sometime m it would be an honour !

Amie Howard Art what kinds of pencils do you use? I just got some prisma ones, does different pencils change different ways of drawing a animal?

@@noragutierrez3096 you would need a new sharpener the blade in the sharpener has either Brocken or gone dull hope this helps
@@amadeus-1011 usually not but you still have to learn how they work if that makes sense
