Thanks for this tutorial. This is the first drawing I've done fully in colored pencil and in a larger format than my other sketches. It has been very rewarding! ❤️🙂
Thanks so much. This was a very clear and informative video of one of my favorite subjects. I appreciate that you were “to the point” and this was easy to follow. I feel that we are very fortunate that you offered this to us free of charge and included all of the details so that all of us could create a picture to be proud of. I wasn’t hounded into going to some other website or Patreon to get the outline or subtle details reserved only for special members. I won’t go to people’s Patreon, it’s not something I can afford. Thanks again so much for contributing to all of our art experience.
Thank you for the comment and I’m so happy this was something that you could use and follow. It is my goal to get others enthusiastic about drawing with colored pencils as it’s such a great medium. Cheers
Thank you for posting this tutorial to TH-cam. I learned a lot from it and decided to subscribe. I also appreciated how you allowed the colors to build instead of using a heavy hand. It made the finished work look very rich and vibrant. The way they handle layering is one of the reasons why I love polychromos pencils.
I tried to do a kingfisher a few days ago and wasnt happy with the result. You've inspired me to give it another go. Thank you, loved watching this come to life!
Yeah, I’m so glad you’re going to give this a try, take your time, get your layers and keep those pencils sharp. Best of luck and thank you for making a comment. Cheers
Hi, and thank you for commenting. I love it that you have a lot of coloured pencils, they are a great medium and if you have time you should definitely work with the colored pencils, they even work well together with watercolour. Maybe one day I’ll do a kingfisher bird as a show me video. Cheers
Hi Jeannette! Your artwork is so beautiful and amazing! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with colored pencils. I've always loved colored pencil art and have tried some drawings. However, I am not an experienced artist, more of an advanced beginner :) so I really learned a lot from this video and your video on color. I am looking forward to the full length video of the cardinal so I can give it a try.
Hi and many thanks for such a kind and generous comment. It is a fantastic medium and so fun to work with. I like your comment advanced beginner, keep drawing, keep going, best. Cheers
About 3 years ago I started with coloured pencils in colouring books then experimented with acrylics, watercolours, oil pastels, etc. I am far from proficient in any one medium but coloured pencils are always my favourite. Your tutorial really helped to take my colouring to the next level. Will you be making more such tutorials? I have subscribed and can’t wait for the next post!❤
Hi, thanks for the comment. I love what you wrote and yes for sure I will be posting 1 video a week on all things art related to colored pencils, drawing, building your skills, understanding color use, from basics to blending and a lot more. I so want to help everyone interested in learning to draw and build their skills with colored pencils. Many thanks again for subscribing. Cheers
Thanks for the idea! I will definitely do a portrait in the near future. They are a lot of work to do so it will be a fun video to make. Have you checked out my website, I do portraits as one of my main subjects. Cheers
WOW! Another incredibly helpful video. I love birds and have horrible luck with colouring feathers. ♥️♥️ Just found out you're a fellow west coast Canadian. 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Oh, hello fellow Canadian, always a pleasure to know where my viewers are located. I’ve got a video coming out tomorrow on drawing a blue Eurasian songbird, it might give you a few more hints, keep going, keep trying. I know it’s there in you. Cheers!
Ok, ok bingo. I am not a professional colored pencils artist. I can tell more tricks and technics with watercolor. I love colored pencil tecture I could never understand why some artists want to hurt their hand with flat thick layers for something that looks like bad oil painting. I tried it it is not good, maybe for certain areas like you said. It is much easier to paint with gouache, acrylic or oils than try to achive same look with colored pencils. Just in my expierence.
You’re right, coloured pencils are not a liquid medium and for me it’s all about respecting that medium, we are drawing with this medium and not painting. In my extensive experience working with the paper is a way to go. Give it a try the way I explained it, much easier on the hand, working lightly all the time. Thank you for the comment. Cheers
Hello, it is actually half custom half ikea cabinet with my spouse doing all the sections. Took a lot of time, but I have two of these cabinets for my pencils. I love it. Thanks for the question and comments. Cheers
@danasterry4 Thank you for the comment. The paper is glassine. If you're not familiar with it, it is an art conservation paper, used to ship and store artwork. It is not wax paper, and is extremely resistant to coloured pencil smearing or transfer. You can get it in any art store or online, just make sure you get authentic glassine and not tissue paper. Cheers

Fantastic tutorial. Do you have the outline we could print please . Thankyou
In the description, cheers
Hmmm.I wondered too, and don’t see a link to the drawing.
❤❤❤
What is the difference between using a pencil with a short or long tip? Thank you
Well that’s an interesting question. The longer the longer the point holds, the shorter the tip blunts quicker. Weird right, but true. Cheers
Why is the pencil crayon solvent i wonder? Any tips where is best price…Another great lesson👩🎨🇨🇦👍🏻🐭
What kind of solvent did you use on the eye at the end?
That one is Zest it, but any OMS would work. Cheers!

This is so inspiring. Wonderful to see a master at work. Sheer admiration.
Que nombre tiene los colores gracias desde Perú
why start with eye
Is that a custom desk you keep your pencils in?
Hello, it is actually half custom half ikea cabinet with my spouse doing all the sections. Took a lot of time, but I have two of these cabinets for my pencils. I love it. Thanks for the question and comments. Cheers
Gorgeous drawing! Could you please tell me what paper you are using under your hand to prevent smearing? Is it was paper or something else?
