The issue becomes the CPU. Pro/X1X have fine enough GPUs for a console... but they cheaped out on the CPUs. 60fps locked on a lot of AAA games is simply impossible, even at 1080p or even 900p because of the CPU as you see here with W3, which isn't even near the most demanding game in 2017/2018.
With dynamic resolution its all possible. They can do it, they have done it in gears 4, final fantasy 15. It's upto developers to n Microsoft to pull this out.

It’s not many publishers where I would buy a game more then once but I bought this game for origin (yuck) then GOG, then Xbox One and I’m considering it for the Switch because it’s portable.
It doesn't really matter if it his 35 in novigrad, not like you are doing much there anyway, 50-60fps in the combat areas would actually be good for people on xbox.

Well 4K30 is still 4K30 since it's capped, and performance is probably the maximum resolution allowed by this mode and 60 fps, maybe even more. But I runs wonderfully, can't wait for the updated version.

Well from what i see the 4k 30 mode is the same. But on Series X. The performance mode is 4k 60. Because the way they set it on one x was 1080p to 4k scaling to help the fps. But because its playing on better hardware its maxed pretty much staying at 4k 60.
Performance mode is definitely the way to go with this one, the game feels a lot more fluid and responsive, the combat feels fresh and not clunky like it was before.
xX1N5ertC01nXx ofcourse the 4k mode is better for image quality, but in all honesty its not worth the boost in framerate you get, the only place i see 4k mode being better is in novigrad where performance is minimal
I tried it on performance with a standard 1080p monitor and it ran pretty well and honestly I would rather play it in that mode, free sync monitor or not.
TheRedRaven Traversing the world fighting monsters usually runs between 50 and 60. It is only in the cities where it drops to the hight 30's at its lowest. Performance mode is great and very handy to use in tough battles high framerate helps.
It's all about optimization and I'm pretty sure the x can push out crazy power it's just developers some times are lazy but cdproject is dope and can actually optimize there games for all consoles very well

The xbox one x cpu is a mid range 2012 AMD laptop (!) cpu, back then even AMDs Desktop cpus sucked. Mobile phones have better cpus for a while now. Bunch of sad people, when the PS4 and Xbox One first came out you always heard how powerful the PS4 was. Now, that Microsoft has a more powerful system, all you hear about is just get a PC if you want a better experience. But, people hardly screamed that same statement when PS4 was the powerful of the two consoles. I have the Pro and the Scorpio and, I can see a difference in my multiplats. But, I enjoy both consoles with my friends wherever they play.

Nicolas Silva PS4 is the one that has no exclusives worth to play. I bought one, played 2 exclusives, and 3 multi, and now is there collecting dust with nothing else good. Buy an underpowered machine only to play exclusives? Nintenfo Switch is better in that case, with really Essential exclusives.

Have it on PC (gtx1060 6gb/ryzen1700x) and Xbox One X. The PC has stronger textures and shadows but I'm only running a 2560*1080 resolution ultra settings. The One X on my Samsung KS8000 with true HDR looks amazing. I love them both.
Kyle Ogle You can enable HDR support in your Nividia control panel or download a program called Reshade and you can get HDR in literally every game that you play.
Sikandar Khan Right click on your desktop and the Nvidia control panel should be there. Don't know about reshade but just do a quick Google search for it and it should pop up.
Controller->Pc->Hdmi cable->4k tv 🤓 The only thing you miss on pc is hdr, but i prefer better fps, native 4k, cleary improved draw distances, better textures and mods. Anyway, i dont want to start a fanboy war, i just wanted to state that pc still is the best solution (at least in my opinion). By the way, i play tw3 on my pro, because i like the plug and play easyness of consoles, i use the pc mostly for warhammer, pubg and fast paced shooters like quake and ut. Enjoy your X.
I play this game on my standard PS4 on V series Plasma I am not complaining. The game itself is superb. 60 fps would be nice, but I enjoy my experience as is. People always want the best specs. Be happy with the fact the game is amazing.
I got the pro and I do like the simple resolution upgrade but people saying how much better the X is than everything else is just annoying. I would like an X because it does look like it plays extremely well but most people are just Xbox fan boys that are happy Xbox is finally doing something better than playstation. Like you said. The thing is the xbox one X is like a hundred dollars more which is quite a difference. I paid $100 more than a 1070 and got a 1080. You can see how big of a difference that makes.
Witcher 3 being multi-platform should have given away that Cyberpunk2077 would be as well. It would be selfish of me to want PC exclusivity, although I sure hope that CDPR take advantage of the power increase of both mid-gen consoles as a base, that way the ceiling is raised much higher compared to base console hardware. The weakest link usually dictates a lot when it comes to game dev with multiplats, so in this case, I do not want the base XB1 being the weak link, PS4 Pro should be their base. This will only help the game be that much better, on all levels, not just visuals and performance. Ideally in this scenario, the PC version would not be held back as it was with Witcher 3. To those with base console hardware, Cyberpunk 2077 is not due out for at least 2 more years (my best guess) so there's plenty of time to upgrade.
Digital Foundry is certainly justifying my buying all my 3rd party, cross platform games on Xbox. Looks like it has certainly paid off. PS4 will only be used for the handful of exclusives I'm interested in. Even those will be rented at Redbox.

While I understand the enthusiast that want to spend the time and money on a nice gaming rig. With the ease and quality you get for $400 and $500, it just doesn't make sense for us. Makes little sense.. if you are unable to afford a PC then it would be irresponsible to spend $500 (+$60 per year for XBL) basically $560. Or to buy underachieving PS4Pro would be equally unresponsible. Plus you miss out on extremely deep discounts PC version of games get regularly. For $600 (rounded up) you can easily build a gaming PC out of new parts that will more or less match the Xbox one X in gaming. If you are willing to look at used parts you can really extend yourself and easily get better.

No thanks I will have the Xbox1X that is not only the most powerful Console it's also backward compatible with ALL other Xbox consoles, it also has an Ultra HD Bluray drive, so I basically have THREE consoles in one and an Ultra HD Bluray player all in one very small and quite Console that's sits inside the TV cabinet.
I game on PC and will still get the X sometime in the future because of PC's valueless digital only game library. Will stop purchasing console games too if they ever go all digital like PC. Buy a console and a physical game library and sell or give it away and that person gets a console and game library full of games. Your PC or console with only digital titles, give or sell it and and that person gets only the hardware, no game library at all. It's pretty sad when a digital game is worth no more money than a pirated game.
So medium/high settings at dynamic 4K, and 1320p dips below 60fps at lower settings than dynamic 4k...Yay?... I will admit though, CD Project Red clearly tried their best here, so props to them. That CPU is just too outdated to give a consistent framerate.
It is not Ultra settings more like mix of high/very high with no hairworks, and lower foilage, it is the same settings as the Pro, which is a mix between high/medium/very high. 30fps is old terrible framerate that i stopped playing at 5 years ago. There is nothing :Rock solid" about it. They also never said that it is hitting 4k 90% of the time. lol Fake 4k, is fake 4K.

@Talkn Trash good question. I can say pretty certainly that the series x has enough power to maximise the dynamic res that the performance mode has in place. Also, locks to 60. I’m quite sensitive to frame rate differences , I can tell if it’s at 50 FPS or 60 . It runs great . In regards to your question I have no tools to confirm this like digital foundry however, you’ll have to trust me :) 4K 60 all the way. They did say a next gem patch is on way, we’ll see if they can improve the graphic settings whilst keeping with 4K 60 locked

I think keeping the performance mode at a locked 60 fps without the dynamic res. scaling makes more sense. I'd have to try the game out to see how it plays/feels but going by this analysis, I have a good idea in general. If given the choice 4K locked @ 30fps is the best option. TW3 is still one of the most demanding games to run on PC (GPU in particular) I have a fairly high-end gaming rig (GTX 980 Ti Classified, i5-4670k OC 4.2GHz, 16GB RAM) and play TW3 maxed 1080p @ 60fps and can bump it up to 1440p still maintaining 50-60 fps. So there's no shame for console players here, oth XB and PS fans are getting a great experience with an amazing game. I'm happy that console gamers are able to finally play this gem at near Ultra PC settings with higher resolutions. I just wish CDPR would have made performance mode locked 60fps, I think more XB players would have preferred that as an option.
i hope you saw that OneX 4k resolution is not stable at all, i prefer 3 rare frame drop in specific places and a steady resolution than having graphics changing near all the time

ok but the perf mode doesn't seek 4k at all so you should check how the 1080P performs on the pro to be fair. personaly i use the ps4 slim, i dont have a 4ktv nor enought internet bandwith or data neither enought storage space to constantly download all those heavy patches and 4k data the oneX needs to be really relevant.
Probably around medium-high settings, yet it is still chugging along at some areas at 45ish fps. It certainly doesn't look all that bad on console, however, a gtx 970 (a graphics card from 2014) can do medium-high settings at a constant 60fps, so that should tell you something about the xbox one x or ps4 "pro"
Actually the 2160p checker boarding on the Pro looks just as good. You do realise that CB is actually better than dynamic resolution if done right ? And this game does it right.
Nasir Bradley Obviously native is preferable but as stated in the video the X1X is dynamic res down to 1800p and only hits 2160p when looking at the sky and very low detail scene. don't get me wrong even 1800p will still look very good on a 4K screen but so is the PS4 pro version's locked 2160p CB rendering. They said so in the video... The Pro version is not soupy at all, they even said it looked even sharper than the X.

Also checkerboard rendering is NOT upscale AT ALL , its an image reconstruction technique and in the case of The witcher 3 it look just as good as the X1X settings. I've played over 500 hours of this game at 30fps. Now its locked to that even more, but with better textures, draw distance, and detail. I'm happy with 4k mode, I think I'll actually pass on the performance mode.
Been playing this on my X in 4K mode and it's absolutely beautiful! I wish now I had waited to run through the game for the first time. The lighting is amazing! Highly recommend on any platform!
PC is still the best place to play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Ultra settings, HairWorks, Mods Support, 60+fps consistent just makes this game spectacular to play.
Linus Tech Tips actually did a comparison like that and found that a PC costing about $600 with the best parts didn't perform as well as the 1X. So no, a PC at that price is not better.
I have a 4K TV but still playing it on performance mode. The resolution difference is really hard to spot during the game (at least, from the distance I play) but the FPS boost is great and improves the gameplay a lot. To me HDR worth so much more than 4K resolution.
As a PC and console gamer you actually cant tell the difference between 45fps and 60fps its when things hit 30 then you notice how less smooth things are.
I wish the devs just allowed all consoles to hit 60fps with a bit lower graphics, this is much smoother experience. Hopefully in a few yers PS5 and new generation GPUs will provide true 4k 60 without any compromises and that would be just the right time to return to this amazing world of Witcher.
Multiplats sell better then exclusives. Horizon zero dawn got destroyed by cod on PS4 so why are exclusives such a big deal when multiplats are killing it in sales???
not for me. i don't like exclusives, i like specific games. currently there are no system seller exclusives in any console for me. well, forza was to me, it's why i bought my xbox one, but even that is on pc right now (as crappy as the windows store is).

I've always wondered if I was playing the Witcher 3 wrong, this confirms I was not lol. Lots of hitting attack as much as you can then running back. Couldn't bring myself to enjoy the gameplay unfortunately, the story seemed like something I'd like. Particularly with the often sub 30fps on my PS4 version not helping with the controls being so sluggish even with alt movement mode, it's like yelling instructions at Geralt over dial up and having him take suggestions rather than being directly tied to your controller. Edit: In this thread: A lot of people getting pissy for me not loving the game they love while not offering suggestions on how to make playing more fun. Shrug.
I had a lot of fun with the dodge ( I think it was the Alt key on PC). No other game has a button for small little sidestep. It's always a giant roll. I played for around 85 hours and never got tired of the combat. Different strokes and all of that.
Performance mode doesn't work on xbox one x. I have digital game of the year edition and the performance mode reverts back to the 4K mode went clicking off the settings.
Microsoft never wins. They have no games either. I mean Shakespeare wrote poems about it. And I wish MS would fix it and make some games... but then I understand their hesitation b/c xbox gamers never support the games, it's sad. There are so many factors that go into why xbox is less than 30 mil (shipped).
Graphics its not a problem , Witcher 3 its one of this game which one putting my ps4pro into JET MODE. Game its totally unplayable without a good headphones.
NexGenTek PC's have had HDR for years. Just get yourself a monitor or TV that has HDR and enable HDR support in your AMD or Nividia drivers and boom...
I'd rather have the option to choose high frame rates over graphics if I wish, then getting darker darks and lighter lights. I'm playing a game, not watching a movie. Controls matter more to me. I'll take an Xbone if someone gives it to me, otherwise, PC.

And being able to multi-task. And faster downloads and installations. And a larger game library. And support for Frame rates over 60fps.
I was upset at CD Project Red when they announced the PS4 pro patch. The reason why was upset is cause the game ran better under PS4 Pro boost mode with a locked frame rate. They need to give us pro owners the option of a capped frame rates mode at 1080p with the enhanced shadows, lighting, etc. to heck with fake 4k resolution and unstable 60fps.
What people should be focusing on is the fact that so soon after launch we are getting these brilliants patches, PS4 Pro great console and I would like one but come on! 22fps at some points and all some of you guys can say is '1300p Xbox One X master race', what are you going to be saying when the games are built from the ground up? I think such great results so early into the Xbox One X cycle is amazing to be honest.

I have an X on a FHD monitor and still prefer the 4K mode for that locked 30fps even without getting to see a 4K image; I prefer a stable frame rate rather than a higher but variable frame rate
Once again the PS4 PRO version looks like crap after playing the X version. 225% better resolution is just a “small” detail. Better graphics, Dolby Atmos and Live make the the PRO a waste of gaming time/money. Sorry for those that won’t have the best experience for the next 3 years, consciously....
Adelbert Banaag Very good. The resolution difference between 900-1080p was just 15%, imperceptible like many tests confirmed. But right now the difference is 65-225%, a clear difference.
dknight xs Yes, it is. The resolution is lower sometimes just to keep the nice performance, dynamically and not checkboarded like the PRO. The 225% gap makes the PS4 a ridiculous version.
The 1060 claim Richard made at not being able to perform at 4K 30FPS... At what settings was that at?... Since the X1X is not running it at Ultra settings, not really a fair comparison.
John Jones Dunno. There are a fair few videos of 1060s at 4k with various settings. A 1060 seems like it'd come pretty close to what the X is doing. I think a 470 (weaker) does 4k ~30 fps at low settings, and the consoles were originally doing ~ medium settings, but have a few settings turned up on the X. Definitely not ultra though.

IIFaDedII Ps4 Pro proved to be capable by running BF1 & COD WW2 at checkerboard 4K (1800p) at 60 fps. So yeah it can easily run 1080p 60 fps on Rise of the Tomb Raider for a small example. I have the console & it’s been an amazing 3 month experience so far. No crashes or frame drops on performance mode. 1080p 60 fps & 1800p 30 & 60 fps is easy for the PS4 Pro. Bang for the buck for $300-330 where I live.
Dont know any curent gen exclusive that runs 60fps@1080. As owner of ps4 pro i able to run 60 frame only in last gen last of us "remaster" title and call of duty (its 60 fps even on past gen) other titles is 2k upscaled (from 1440p to 1800p) or "stable 30 fps" option like horizaon zero dawn etc. And yeah if you enable "Pro" mode it becomes so loud with its shitty low cost delta fans from 2000s.
Been playing this on Series X, performance mode seems to hit the same dynamic resolution of 4K mode but at 60fps, which are very stable. There may be some small pixel resolution difference between the 2 modes but I can’t really tell even analyzing two screenshot in high def on the computer.

Enviromental detail is dialed down, that I can already see. Also some texture detail is also lowered on particular surfaces along with dialed down shadowing and lighting effects. It looks better than it originally did on XBONE. It most certainly isn't running with maxed settings at 4K even at 30 FPS.
and the X is a worthless joke , its simple people , you want power build a pc but if you want a cheap system with high quality exclusives + VR support + 3rd party exclusive content get the ps4 pro , and the switch exclusives are good too , face it fam there's no reason to own this 500$ cableBox ;)
In the meanwhile, I finished this game with using triple monitors in surround mode for greater immersion. Not many know that Witcher3 provides extra feature at this resolution such as in gwent, extra UI is displayed on right monitor.
I give props. I didn't expect the performance to have such a good lock at 30fps in the 4k mode. I think I only saw enough dips to count on one hand. And even then they were like dips to 29fps for barely a second and then picked back up.
?? If you are losing frames on PC you can just change the settings. Consoles versions of games should be much more optimized for what the platform is capable of (much like Witcher 3 on the X here.) and have a good lock because the user can't change anything to get a consistent framerate. Also most people on PC game at 60fps+, 1 or 2 frames from 60fps is not a big deal but from 30fps it is much more noticeable because you don't have have that buffer. Because really anything below 30fps is not enjoyable and depending on who you are could make you sick.

But, does that performance mode provide a more stable frame rate if you cap the resolution to 1080p? That's more likely what I would end up doing. I'll be testing it when I get home, but I was interested in a DF analysis of it. Edit: What I mean by capping the resolution is to force the console to only use 1080p max.

Played TW3 twice on my PS4 and got the platinum trophy. Then i got a gaming PC (i7 4790K with a 1080Ti ) and i swear playing TW3 on 1440P 60FPS (with hairworks on , all other settings on ultra ) was a sight to behold!
I own two monitors. A 1440p/165hz ASUS RoG IPS 28" and a 55" LG 4k OLED TV. While running W3 on a 1440p IPS at over 100fps was awesome.... it simply paled in comparison to the absolute jaw dropping glory of 4k/60fps on an OLED. The color representation of the OLED is light years above any other panel. Some of the sunsets in W3 on the OLED were so bright that they actually make your eyes squint like they would in real life. If you have the means, check out an OLED for gaming. Picture quality wise it makes every other panel look several gens behind.

This game is WOW in 4KHDR on X1X although have a bit of an issue with the slider switching back to 4K from performance mode automatically any fix for that yet you guess got CDPR on speed dial?

The issue becomes the CPU. Pro/X1X have fine enough GPUs for a console... but they cheaped out on the CPUs. 60fps locked on a lot of AAA games is simply impossible, even at 1080p or even 900p because of the CPU as you see here with W3, which isn't even near the most demanding game in 2017/2018.
With dynamic resolution its all possible. They can do it, they have done it in gears 4, final fantasy 15. It's upto developers to n Microsoft to pull this out.

Performance mode in games should be a standard some people won't want to play at 4k 30fps. Options is a win for the consumer.
It doesn't really matter if it his 35 in novigrad, not like you are doing much there anyway, 50-60fps in the combat areas would actually be good for people on xbox.

Well 4K30 is still 4K30 since it's capped, and performance is probably the maximum resolution allowed by this mode and 60 fps, maybe even more. But I runs wonderfully, can't wait for the updated version.

Well from what i see the 4k 30 mode is the same. But on Series X. The performance mode is 4k 60. Because the way they set it on one x was 1080p to 4k scaling to help the fps. But because its playing on better hardware its maxed pretty much staying at 4k 60.

Performance mode is definitely the way to go with this one, the game feels a lot more fluid and responsive, the combat feels fresh and not clunky like it was before.

TheRedRaven Traversing the world fighting monsters usually runs between 50 and 60. It is only in the cities where it drops to the hight 30's at its lowest. Performance mode is great and very handy to use in tough battles high framerate helps.

Have it on PC (gtx1060 6gb/ryzen1700x) and Xbox One X. The PC has stronger textures and shadows but I'm only running a 2560*1080 resolution ultra settings. The One X on my Samsung KS8000 with true HDR looks amazing. I love them both.

By the way, i play tw3 on my pro, because i like the plug and play easyness of consoles, i use the pc mostly for warhammer, pubg and fast paced shooters like quake and ut.

I play this game on my standard PS4 on V series Plasma I am not complaining. The game itself is superb. 60 fps would be nice, but I enjoy my experience as is. People always want the best specs. Be happy with the fact the game is amazing.

I got the pro and I do like the simple resolution upgrade but people saying how much better the X is than everything else is just annoying. I would like an X because it does look like it plays extremely well but most people are just Xbox fan boys that are happy Xbox is finally doing something better than playstation. Like you said. Witcher 3 being multi-platform should have given away that Cyberpunk2077 would be as well. It would be selfish of me to want PC exclusivity, although I sure hope that CDPR take advantage of the power increase of both mid-gen consoles as a base, that way the ceiling is raised much higher compared to base console hardware. The weakest link usually dictates a lot when it comes to game dev with multiplats, so in this case, I do not want the base XB1 being the weak link, PS4 Pro should be their base. This will only help the game be that much better, on all levels, not just visuals and performance. Ideally in this scenario, the PC version would not be held back as it was with Witcher 3. To those with base console hardware, Cyberpunk 2077 is not due out for at least 2 more years (my best guess) so there's plenty of time to upgrade.
Only on 1080p do more research -_- and research I mean read all the system build specs -_- on both consoles 60 fps is just a consoles dream on 4k

For $600 (rounded up) you can easily build a gaming PC out of new parts that will more or less match the Xbox one X in gaming. If you are willing to look at used parts you can really extend yourself and easily get better.

I game on PC and will still get the X sometime in the future because of PC's valueless digital only game library. Will stop purchasing console games too if they ever go all digital like PC. Buy a console and a physical game library and sell or give it away and that person gets a console and game library full of games. Your PC or console with only digital titles, give or sell it and and that person gets only the hardware, no game library at all. It's pretty sad when a digital game is worth no more money than a pirated game.

You mean ultra settings at dynamic 4K (likely hitting 4K about 90% of the time) at a rock solid 30fps.
It is not Ultra settings more like mix of high/very high with no hairworks, and lower foilage, it is the same settings as the Pro, which is a mix between high/medium/very high.
30fps is old terrible framerate that i stopped playing at 5 years ago. There is nothing :Rock solid" about it. They also never said that it is hitting 4k 90% of the time. lol Fake 4k, is fake 4K.

@Talkn Trash good question. I can say pretty certainly that the series x has enough power to maximise the dynamic res that the performance mode has in place. Also, locks to 60. I’m quite sensitive to frame rate differences , I can tell if it’s at 50 FPS or 60 . It runs great . In regards to your question I have no tools to confirm this like digital foundry however, you’ll have to trust me :) 4K 60 all the way. They did say a next gem patch is on way, we’ll see if they can improve the graphic settings whilst keeping with 4K 60 locked

I think keeping the performance mode at a locked 60 fps without the dynamic res. scaling makes more sense. I'd have to try the game out to see how it plays/feels but going by this analysis, I have a good idea in general. If given the choice 4K locked @ 30fps is the best option. TW3 is still one of the most demanding games to run on PC (GPU in particular) I have a fairly high-end gaming rig (GTX 980 Ti Classified, i5-4670k OC 4.2GHz, 16GB RAM) and play TW3 maxed 1080p @ 60fps and can bump it up to 1440p still maintaining 50-60 fps. So there's no shame for console players here, oth XB and PS fans are getting a great experience with an amazing game. I'm happy that console gamers are able to finally play this gem at near Ultra PC settings with higher resolutions. I just wish CDPR would have made performance mode locked 60fps, I think more XB players would have preferred that as an option.

ok but the perf mode doesn't seek 4k at all so you should check how the 1080P performs on the pro to be fair. personaly i use the ps4 slim, i dont have a 4ktv nor enought internet bandwith or data neither enought storage space to constantly download all those heavy patches and 4k data the oneX needs to be really relevant.

Probably around medium-high settings, yet it is still chugging along at some areas at 45ish fps. It certainly doesn't look all that bad on console, however, a gtx 970 (a graphics card from 2014) can do medium-high settings at a constant 60fps, so that should tell you something about the xbox one x or ps4 "pro"

Actually the 2160p checker boarding on the Pro looks just as good. You do realise that CB is actually better than dynamic resolution if done right ? And this game does it right.
Nasir Bradley Obviously native is preferable but as stated in the video the X1X is dynamic res down to 1800p and only hits 2160p when looking at the sky and very low detail scene. don't get me wrong even 1800p will still look very good on a 4K screen but so is the PS4 pro version's locked 2160p CB rendering. They said so in the video... The Pro version is not soupy at all, they even said it looked even sharper than the X.

Also checkerboard rendering is NOT upscale AT ALL , its an image reconstruction technique and in the case of The witcher 3 it look just as good as the X1X settings. I've played over 500 hours of this game at 30fps. Now its locked to that even more, but with better textures, draw distance, and detail. I'm happy with 4k mode, I think I'll actually pass on the performance mode.
Been playing this on my X in 4K mode and it's absolutely beautiful! I wish now I had waited to run through the game for the first time. The lighting is amazing! Highly recommend on any platform!

Linus Tech Tips actually did a comparison like that and found that a PC costing about $600 with the best parts didn't perform as well as the 1X. So no, a PC at that price is not better.
I have a 4K TV but still playing it on performance mode. The resolution difference is really hard to spot during the game (at least, from the distance I play) but the FPS boost is great and improves the gameplay a lot. To me HDR worth so much more than 4K resolution.
As a PC and console gamer you actually cant tell the difference between 45fps and 60fps its when things hit 30 then you notice how less smooth things are.
I wish the devs just allowed all consoles to hit 60fps with a bit lower graphics, this is much smoother experience. Hopefully in a few yers PS5 and new generation GPUs will provide true 4k 60 without any compromises and that would be just the right time to return to this amazing world of Witcher.
problem is cpu, not gpu. you can't lower the load on the cpu just by lowering graphics settings.
Multiplats sell better then exclusives. Horizon zero dawn got destroyed by cod on PS4 so why are exclusives such a big deal when multiplats are killing it in sales???

I've always wondered if I was playing the Witcher 3 wrong, this confirms I was not lol. Lots of hitting attack as much as you can then running back. Couldn't bring myself to enjoy the gameplay unfortunately, the story seemed like something I'd like. Particularly with the often sub 30fps on my PS4 version not helping with the controls being so sluggish even with alt movement mode, it's like yelling instructions at Geralt over dial up and having him take suggestions rather than being directly tied to your controller. Edit: In this thread: A lot of people getting pissy for me not loving the game they love while not offering suggestions on how to make playing more fun. Shrug.

I had a lot of fun with the dodge ( I think it was the Alt key on PC). No other game has a button for small little sidestep. It's always a giant roll.
I played for around 85 hours and never got tired of the combat. Different strokes and all of that.

Performance mode doesn't work on xbox one x. I have digital game of the year edition and the performance mode reverts back to the 4K mode went clicking off the settings.

Yeah, mods are nice, too. Don't forget the ability to upgrade parts if you want. And the ability to play games from outside of the walled garden of Xbone Live. And being able to multi-task. And faster downloads and installations. And a larger game library. And support for Frame rates over 60fps.
I was upset at CD Project Red when they announced the PS4 pro patch. The reason why was upset is cause the game ran better under PS4 Pro boost mode with a locked frame rate. They need to give us pro owners the option of a capped frame rates mode at 1080p with the enhanced shadows, lighting, etc. to heck with fake 4k resolution and unstable 60fps.

What people should be focusing on is the fact that so soon after launch we are getting these brilliants patches, PS4 Pro great console and I would like one but come on! 22fps at some points and all some of you guys can say is '1300p Xbox One X master race', what are you going to be saying when the games are built from the ground up? I have an X on a FHD monitor and still prefer the 4K mode for that locked 30fps even without getting to see a 4K image; I prefer a stable frame rate rather than a higher but variable frame rate
Once again the PS4 PRO version looks like crap after playing the X version. 225% better resolution is just a “small” detail. Better graphics, Dolby Atmos and Live make the the PRO a waste of gaming time/money. Sorry for those that won’t have the best experience for the next 3 years, consciously....

dknight xs Yes, it is. The resolution is lower sometimes just to keep the nice performance, dynamically and not checkboarded like the PRO. The 225% gap makes the PS4 a ridiculous version.

John Jones Dunno. There are a fair few videos of 1060s at 4k with various settings. A 1060 seems like it'd come pretty close to what the X is doing. I think a 470 (weaker) does 4k ~30 fps at low settings, and the consoles were originally doing ~ medium settings, but have a few settings turned up on the X. Definitely not ultra though.
I kind of prefer the 4k over the performance mode. I’m surprised you didn’t talk about the cutscenes in 4k on the X. It looks INCREDIBLE!

IIFaDedII Ps4 Pro proved to be capable by running BF1 & COD WW2 at checkerboard 4K (1800p) at 60 fps. So yeah it can easily run 1080p 60 fps on Rise of the Tomb Raider for a small example. I have the console & it’s been an amazing 3 month experience so far. No crashes or frame drops on performance mode. 1080p 60 fps & 1800p 30 & 60 fps is easy for the PS4 Pro. Bang for the buck for $300-330 where I live.
Dont know any curent gen exclusive that runs 60fps@1080. As owner of ps4 pro i able to run 60 frame only in last gen last of us "remaster" title and call of duty (its 60 fps even on past gen) other titles is 2k upscaled (from 1440p to 1800p) or "stable 30 fps" option like horizaon zero dawn etc. And yeah if you enable "Pro" mode it becomes so loud with its shitty low cost delta fans from 2000s.

Been playing this on Series X, performance mode seems to hit the same dynamic resolution of 4K mode but at 60fps, which are very stable.
There may be some small pixel resolution difference between the 2 modes but I can’t really tell even analyzing two screenshot in high def on the computer.

Enviromental detail is dialed down, that I can already see. Also some texture detail is also lowered on particular surfaces along with dialed down shadowing and lighting effects. It looks better than it originally did on XBONE. It most certainly isn't running with maxed settings at 4K even at 30 FPS.

In the meanwhile, I finished this game with using triple monitors in surround mode for greater immersion. Not many know that Witcher3 provides extra feature at this resolution such as in gwent, extra UI is displayed on right monitor.
I give props. I didn't expect the performance to have such a good lock at 30fps in the 4k mode.
I think I only saw enough dips to count on one hand.
And even then they were like dips to 29fps for barely a second and then picked back up.

If you are losing frames on PC you can just change the settings.
Consoles versions of games should be much more optimized for what the platform is capable of (much like Witcher 3 on the X here.) and have a good lock because the user can't change anything to get a consistent framerate.
Also most people on PC game at 60fps+, 1 or 2 frames from 60fps is not a big deal but from 30fps it is much more noticeable because you don't have have that buffer. Because really anything below 30fps is not enjoyable and depending on who you are could make you sick.
I'll defo highly consider the XB1X for these kinda games, if you can't afford a damn good PC (still), PS4 Pro is trash (honestly).

But, does that performance mode provide a more stable frame rate if you cap the resolution to 1080p? That's more likely what I would end up doing. I'll be testing it when I get home, but I was interested in a DF analysis of it.

Played TW3 twice on my PS4 and got the platinum trophy. Then i got a gaming PC (i7 4790K with a 1080Ti ) and i swear playing TW3 on 1440P 60FPS (with hairworks on , all other settings on ultra ) was a sight to behold!
I own two monitors. A 1440p/165hz ASUS RoG IPS 28" and a 55" LG 4k OLED TV. While running W3 on a 1440p IPS at over 100fps was awesome.... it simply paled in comparison to the absolute jaw dropping glory of 4k/60fps on an OLED. The color representation of the OLED is light years above any other panel. Some of the sunsets in W3 on the OLED were so bright that they actually make your eyes squint like they would in real life. If you have the means, check out an OLED for gaming. Picture quality wise it makes every other panel look several gens behind.

Yeah mine too. Maybe if you have HDR enabled it automatically runs 4k mode? I need to experiment with this because so far I've only played using HDR enabled and Xbox X resolution set to 4k and it seems to force 4k mode.
we need to find some way to test FreeSync on this machine (a way to show on youtube). Most games targeting 60fps runs between 40-60 which is considered THE perfect range for FreeSync.

This game is WOW in 4KHDR on X1X although have a bit of an issue with the slider switching back to 4K from performance mode automatically any fix for that yet you guess got CDPR on speed dial?
