    Great set up Chip. Loving the vids. Would love to see a video of how you mix your RO water with your purified tap water. What you use etc. Mainly to see if I'm on the right track! 😁 (that's if you haven't done a video already and I've missed it) cheers.

    Love the video Chip, thanks for sharing your info, particularly like the explanation for koi flicking now and then, all mine are healthy but flick every so often, not regular. My PH is 7.6 am and 8.0 pm so this eases my mind and I know my water parameters are excellent.

      also worth checking if you have Ammonia in your source water...its a sig that theres Chloramine in tap water....use Sodium Thiosulphate to remove from your system...

    That's a great set up,
    I'm currently re-building my pond and going for drum and bakki shower.
    I'm also looking at using either an external heat exchanger, or stainless coil like you have.
    as i'm a pipefitter it's a relatively low cost install.
    but I'm a little concerned about the heating pipework to the coil within your drum its self, in case a fitting leaks...

    Hi, you say the returns are 8” down from the water level, is that to the top of pipe or bottom..?

      12 inches at the bottom.

    Hi is there any problem between males and females in this pond? They said to separate gender to have no problem. Also how do you control nitrates in your pond?

    How much an hour are you returning through those 3X 4” returns…? Also how tall are those protein skimmer pipes that are on the returns? Thanks

      2x an hour.

    • @user-xv1lb3xe3n

    If you have a bakki shower in your pump room does it make a lot of humidity especially in winter?

    • @bdkoi1
      @bdkoi1  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all. Have heat radiators to prevent this.

  • @chrisviner5927
    @chrisviner5927 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please can you provide some more information on your bakki shower - it looks like it’s on a stand? Did you have that made?
    Also, it’s not showing into a pond or container from the looks, so is it just plumbed up to your returns to the pond? If so, how? Pictures of even a vide would be awesome as I’m planning a build very similar 😁👍🏻 Cheers Chris

    Hi mate, just wondering if you could give some advice based on your experience with growing out large kohaku, I’m looking to buy a kohaku at the moment and I’ve come down to 2 fish I like the most however the budget can only get one, wanting to get the fish 70 cm+ and the 2 options are a 22cm tosai and 32cm nisai, do you think the 22cm tosai could be larger than 32 cm by nisai and therefore make it a better purchase ?

    One question Chip do you ever use clay in your water? Just curious mate.

    • @bdkoi1
      @bdkoi1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. Never. Did in the early days of koi keeping. No long. I use my limited funds on providing the very best water, and very best food. Koi clay provides a little relief (like a purge) on the koi’s kidneys. Best sprinkled on food so they ingest it. But again, if you use quality food and provide best water. Sensible stocking levels. No need for these kinda tings

      @@bdkoi1I understand mate, I got some Kasuri clay to try this year however I'm using kasuri pellet this year anyway which already contains it. Just a little trial on my part to see any benefits.
