Well I guess this may sound a little pretentious, but I just picked up my Platinum ruby red super crew 4x4. I had to order it January 16 to get it now. I had to order it for a few reasons. It is nearly impossible for the dealerships to get them in and when they do they are bought before they take the plastic off. I've been there and seen it. Mine came with every option they have. The tailgate thing, the Ford Berliner, double sunroof, better stereo, leather seats, everything you can find on the Ford site where you "build your own". It is like nothing I have ever driven or owned. I know it is frightfully expensive, but I am 56 and this is my first new truck in my life. If I don't do it now, then when? It is so cool I have been going out just to sit in it in my driveway.
stns 440 Congratulations and I have the same thought you have as well.. "If not now, then when"... But man do I struggle with the breath taking cost of a loaded truck.. and I can afford it, it just keeps blowing my mind a little. Again, congrats, I dont doubt it feels and drives like a dream and pays dividends in pride of ownership..
Joseph Foster yes, the bed does seem a little short if you dont order it longer. I got the short bed with horse shoe tail gate you can put down if you lay the tail gate flat. That helps out a little.
Everyone commenting about the doors as if they DONT work properly...its not like they are broken or something, he just let gravity pull the door shut, a door which is now super light, of course it wont close and latch with no force applied to it. Just push it closed like on EVERYTHING else you drive. Not to mention the weather seals are brand new and not broken in at all.
This truck will also have a nasty better value than any other pick up in 10 years from now especially in states that use salt for snow ... Aluminum no rust .... Awesome here in Chicago ..
Kenth Llemit Yep....Aluminum is widely used in heat exchangers. Ever sit on an aluminum bleacher in cold weather ? It conducts cold like nothing you ever saw. I'm sure it's OK but time will certainly tell on this. Reason I bought a new 2014 F150 FX4.....steel is a given !
390merc65 that doesn't change the fact that if it gets in a wreck it will cost double to fix, a jet airliner crashes and they don't fix it, insurance will cost more for the aluminum ford, look it up
I recently watched a review where the Silverado 6.2L small-block and Ram 5.7L Hemi both did better in combined mileage than the 2015 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost. The Chevy and Ram both benefit from cylinder deactivation and 8 speed transmissions. So far the only benefit of Ford's EcoBoost engines is performance.
I want to buy one of these but my uncle won't allow it since it's "american" and he never buys American owned products. Im really bored of driving my 07 Tundra, this F150 would be the best upgrade
DoubleD 613 That's actually a pretty impressive increase if you think about it. Of course, RAM, my other favorite, is leading in the fuel efficiency game with the 29mpg Ecodiesel, although the Ecoboost V6 in the F-150 is something to consider as well.
Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface.
George Levine I sure hope you don't have a job where you make enough money to afford this vehicle because if you do I lost hope in humanity, because anyone with a brain would realize the door is lighter and just letting it fall shut isn't going to shut as easy as a normal door.
What's everyone complaining about the price for? Yeah it's an xlt but has way more options than last years models did, duh. fyi, you're not very bright if you pay msrp anyways. People are able to buy theirs at invoice right now, and f150's usually have quite a few incentives and rebates. Obviously not so much right now, but after a year of being out they will.
k3v015Mk that's how Ford stays the best seller, 12,000 off msrp, 0% financing, pay the same price as their employees, government and large corporations buy thousands of them at cheap prices and replace them every few years, Ford is so desperate to keep it's title of best selling truck that they will do just about anything, i think they would be willing to lose a bit of money on each truck they sell just to keep that title lol
Honestly if any truck maker wants to take ford's best selling title they will have to do the same exact thing. There's no way the others could make such large quantities of pickups like ford without having some great pricing deals to go with them. Depends on the year for good incentives too. The new f150s don't have much for incentives, where a new silverado or ram is a lot cheaper.
guy proulx My last ford truck, never opened up... sold with 238k and still ran and looked great. Toyota makes good trucks, no doubt... and yes, Ford sells a massive amount of fleet trucks each year. Having come from an agency that bought fleet I can tell you that if they weren't good trucks that lasted, they'd buy a different brand the very next purchase cycle if needed. Haven't needed to yet after 20+ years of Fords.
ZBrockBow the U.S government will always buy domestics because the U.s public would be pissed off if they started buying Toyota's especially after taking billions of tax payers money to bail out GM and Dodge
What a sharp looking truck! I still maintain that ford builds the nicest truck, but $50k for a truck that doesn't even have leather seats is kind of ridiculous. How the hell can people afford these? I think the answer is they can't, but they're buying them anyways.
Geez... Never thought pickup trucks with gas motors will ever cross the 50K threshold. I guess the options you can get on pickups now are pushing the price up higher than ever before. Thanks for the info.
Why All The Fuss For comparison -- as compared to the F-150 being $62k, similar price to a GMC Sierra Denali. The Chevy Silverado High Country and Ram 1500 Laramie Limited would be $55k.
Why All The Fuss Can you say "sticker" ? I knew you could. My 2014 F150 supercrew FX4 with essentially EVRY available option stickered for $52k. I bought it in December 2014 for $41.5K Nobody pays sticker so don't sweat it.
Why All The Fuss they love adding useless bells and whistles and jacking up the price, they know that the more options the more shit will break prematurely and make more money on parts and labour
Beware People. The new 2015 f150 are having premature warped dash issues. Many owners been having this problem including myself. And many of the trucks sitting on lots all over the country have warped dashes. Buyers beware. This is unacceptable for a brand new vehicle.
2 mpg MAX more than the 2014 F150 made from steel. So let's do the math. If you drive 20,000 miles in a year, you'll use around 100 gallons of fuel each year LESS than the steel version. At $2.35/gal, that's around $235 you'l save. So you take a chance that it will hold up, and not cost a fortune to repair, etc.....to save $235 ? For me.....risk vs reward is not great enough to warrant the risk. Steel for me please.
+RD S First off, thats thinking gas will stay the same price. Secondly, thats only for the 3.5L Eco, The 2.7L will do much better mpgs. Third, aluminum holds up to the elements better than steel, it won't rust in a million years. Fourth, the '15 is much faster, can carry more, can tow more, and has more standard features. You're not just paying for the fuel savings, its the whole package.
That rear sliding window looks ridiculous. Way too small. I hate to say it, but Toyota is the only company that does it properly. The whole glass rolls down.
390merc65 hahahaha is that all you got for me?, maybe Ford will do what they did in the 70's and buy Tundras and rebadge them with a fake ford badge, they say history repeats itself LMAO
At $42k, I'm surprised this truck doesn't have a basic soft tailgate release. It's becoming a chore to figure out how the manufacturers apply different option packages. It's confusing where some eliminate needed or wanted options when you're thinking you already have them included. Power folding mirrors, auto climate control, dampened tailgate, and bed liner that are not on this F-150 are included on my $42k 2012 Tundra. They're all guilty of the shell game that decontents their trucks to get you to buy an option that resides in a more expensive package. Toyota does it for sure. That aside, this F-150 is a much better truck with a great looking interior, Sync, info screen and driving position. I heard that the 700 lb weight loss is closer to 300lbs. They should weigh one to find out how exactly how extensive the change in weight is. Still though, i'll take the 300 lb loss regardless. That's still a meaningful step forward.
I'd get slightly less content on this F-150 and then supercharge the 5.0L with a Roush setup using the money saved. I have TRD blower on my Tundra with 4.88 gears. It pulls really hard. Nothing is better than a supercharger with today's modern electronics! It's reliable warranted power that you'll never grow tired of.
There is a Ford dealer near me who discounts F-150's by as much as $12k as fall approaches. I saw one sale last year where some trucks were discounted by $13k. They give good deals!
$50k for a truck whose doors don't close properly, does not have a dampened tailgate, no push button start, and no bedliner? Extremely overpriced, but hey someone has to pay for those commercials Ford runs every 2 minutes during football games.
Christopher .WalkenPNW Ford , Dodge and GM jack up their prices to 50-60 k and then knock off 10 grand in incentives making the customer think they are getting a great deal lol
+Christopher .WalkenPNW Doors close fine, the cab is so airtight you actually have to use force to close it. My ears literally popped when I first got in one and slammed the doors. Very quiet cabin. But honestly, if you are worried about a dampened tailgate, you probably shouldn't own a truck..
You know I can't help to think that these trucks would be a hell of a lot cheaper if you would get rid of all those computers. Is there even any thing in this truck that isn't being run by a computer? Also why does one need a back up camera, don't you guys look in your mirrors when backing up? and same with lane departure and forward collision to me it sounds like you guys who wants all these stupid electronics don't like to watch where you are driving.
+Kyle Lacoste My brother owns a GMC Sierra (small cab) and it's a pain to park the vehicle, I own a Toyota Land Cruiser which is basic trim level with no backup camera and can park with ease. The GMC Sierra has awful viewing angles but it has backup camera with sensors in the driver's seat. I don't know about the F150 though but I feel like every truck should have a backup camera with sensors as standard.
My Dad also owns a Chevy silverado Crew cab, I have no issue with parking it. The only thing I can find a back up camera for is hooking up a trailer if you are alone. I just think trucks would be much cheaper with out all those sensors. maybe a navigation system is okay cause then it saves the driver money in buying one from walmart then having it hanging on the window.
Kyle Lacoste There's a basic XL trim which starts at around $26,000. It comes without a lot of the tech found in higher trims like backup camera, sensors, push to start, side mirror spotlights, key-less entry and even AUX. You can even check out the Chevy Silverado It offers an even more stripped down trim you can get it with a manual shifter too.
I am aware of that. I have just come to love the FX4 package, but would like the option to live with out all the computers. Its just my personal opinion. I know some people really like all that computer in the vehicles. I just don't think it makes anything safer. just my opinion though and I never had the chance to use any of these computers so I guess I really shouldn't say much.
Daniel Bell I'm not talking about the computer that you would see in say a 1999 dodge ram 1500. I am mainly talking about the computers that you see in todays trucks. Like touch screen navigation. and then you have all the damm sensors like forward collision detection. I can live with out all this stuff just give me a stick shift for 4 wheel drive. and a colum shifter.

I didn't mean the length of the bed. The deepness of the truck bed is 6" shallower.
Get a Range Rover.
canis lupis Awesome combination. How is the Platinum holding up after 4 years?
Everyone commenting about the doors as if they DONT work properly...its not like they are broken or something, he just let gravity pull the door shut, a door which is now super light, of course it wont close and latch with no force applied to it. Just push it closed like on EVERYTHING else you drive. Not to mention the weather seals are brand new and not broken in at all.
Well spoken
Never thought i would see myself in a truck. Well done ford!
I have this truck and love it, I have the Lariat version with a huge power sun roof that is an awesome addition.
If it's a Lariat then its not this truck lol
Great looking truck...and probably the best built. Ford really knows how to build a truck. But how do regular people afford these new trucks?
This truck will also have a nasty better value than any other pick up in 10 years from now especially in states that use salt for snow ... Aluminum no rust .... Awesome here in Chicago ..
You'll feel comfortable during winter with the aluminum F-150
Kenth Llemit Yep....Aluminum is widely used in heat exchangers. Ever sit on an aluminum bleacher in cold weather ? It conducts cold like nothing you ever saw. I'm sure it's OK but time will certainly tell on this. Reason I bought a new 2014 F150 FX4.....steel is a given !
AARON MORADO make sure not to damage it because it cost twice as much to repair and i'm sure the insurance will cost you more also
390merc65 that doesn't change the fact that if it gets in a wreck it will cost double to fix, a jet airliner crashes and they don't fix it, insurance will cost more for the aluminum ford, look it up
The reason why it cost double to fix in aluminum f-150 or other vehicles, not because it is hard to fix, because auto repair companies rarely fix it.
I cringe every time I see a tail gate dropped like that.
+Erik Nephew what? why? Its a piece of metal with steel bands. Its not gonna break.
+taker610 I'm sorry. Why do you need an 8 Speed transmission? If you want an 8 speed get a car.
taker610 and towing...don't forget that.
Doors should close first time and all models should have received the dampened tail gate
***** well i guess i do NOW!
cool thanks for the update, they must have corrected that. you are one lucky guy, those trucks soooo nice!
cdcruizer05 don't shut the door like a girl.
Haha true, use my good ole man muscles
How does the ride compare to Ram 1500 with air suspension? Does the light weight make the empty bed ride even more bouncy?
This new F-150 looks like just the right formula. Leaving the pack way behind.
Besides the price, I like it.
Look forward to the competitors.
Great review, do you think the F150 will ever get a diesel option?
Love these trucks, but getting the 5.0 v8. Don't want to deal with the ecoboost.
Same here. I have the 5.0 V8 myself. Such a better beastly engine!!
I want to buy one of these but my uncle won't allow it since it's "american" and he never buys American owned products. Im really bored of driving my 07 Tundra, this F150 would be the best upgrade
:..)
Im not depending on him whatsoever, Plus i have my own job
Then just buy it ftw
yeah man why do you even have to listen to your uncle? Haha.
JUST DONT LISTEN. USA IS DEMOCRATIC AND FREE COUNTRY
$51,160, you freaking serious?
Ford rules
That tailgate handle makes me laugh. It may be functional, but it sure does provide onlookers with a nice laugh.
I don't actually own a truck I just think it looks funny. No hate intended
Higher price, less weight and aluminum that is expensive to fix equals a 2mpg advantage? That sucks!
But the aluminum pays off for better towing and hauling and faster acceleration
***** If you are going that fast in wet conditions, you had it coming!
***** not exactly more weight means you would have more momentum so you would hydro plan easier in a heavier car going equal speeds.
DoubleD 613 That's actually a pretty impressive increase if you think about it. Of course, RAM, my other favorite, is leading in the fuel efficiency game with the 29mpg Ecodiesel, although the Ecoboost V6 in the F-150 is something to consider as well.
blucher34 maybe you should study physics lol
Aluminum is not a metallic element found in the earths crust. It is processed from bauxite.

is aluminum stronger than the orignal F-150 Frame ?
Frame is steel, body is aluminum
The future.
Want those added features? Buy a Lariat.
nice video thanks
For that kind of money I would expect the doors to close on the first try. Great review.
Me to
George Levine I sure hope you don't have a job where you make enough money to afford this vehicle because if you do I lost hope in humanity, because anyone with a brain would realize the door is lighter and just letting it fall shut isn't going to shut as easy as a normal door.
I don't really see the point of switching to aluminum to get an extra 2 mpg , I really don't see why there is a such an emphasis on mpg
ngb802 why stick with steel? Aluminum means they can increase the payload and towing...duh.
Beautiful truck
F-250 Super Duty!
What's everyone complaining about the price for? Yeah it's an xlt but has way more options than last years models did, duh. fyi, you're not very bright if you pay msrp anyways.

Georgia Fan you have the best and most reliable truck
Georgia Fan and that's why they are the best seller year after year, Oh and also fleet sales lol
It's an easy decision Ram not F150. Had one was nothing but a pile of trouble from day one now add aluminum it's a no Brainer
