  • Thailand will hold its general election on May 14, and progressives are hoping for a breakthrough.
The Future Forward party, which only emerged six years ago, did astonishingly well in the 2017 polls, coming a close third, but only to be disqualified later.
Now the party has returned - rebranded as Move Forward - with a message of reform that appears to be stretching across the generational divide.
Al Jazeera's Tony Cheng reports from Bangkok, Thailand.

I am half Thai and have experienced more than a decade of political unrest in Thailand, which included events such as the airport shutdown, the shooting of individuals in Lumpini Park and the nearby temple, and the intentional flooding of Bangkok to quell protests. Despite voting for Thaksin and his democratically-elected successor, they were both removed by the military, and an undemocratic government was put into power, which reversed the progress made under Thaksin in areas such as healthcare, education, and government assistance for rural farmers. Nevertheless, the current government claims to be working for the benefit of the people.
It is important to note that Thaksin and his family are corrupt, a fact known to every Thai citizen. However, the difference was that Thaksin was able to effectively perform his duties, leading to significant benefits for the people to the point that he outshone the previous king, and became the first Thai prime minister to complete a full term in office. This allowed the Thai people to understand that their vote mattered and that they had a voice, but their progress was ultimately crushed by the monarchy and the military.
The people of Thailand are no longer subject to the king, and the military cannot claim to represent the people. It is crucial to acknowledge that Thailand is a country that aspires to democratic values, and as such, the Thai people have a right to elect their leaders and have a say in how they are governed. The role of the monarchy should be limited to ceremonial duties, while the military should not interfere with the democratic process. It is only by upholding the principles of democracy and respecting the will of the people that Thailand can move towards a brighter future.

The west has long identified and targeted the children of a country's' elite as a way to control a country.
These people are carted off to studies in US and Europe where they are recruited and moulded often without them even knowing it is happening. They will reliable introduce policies that veer towards neoliberalism, low import tariffs, deindustrialisation, promotion of cultural degeneracy. This is the case with these new young 'politicians' in Thailand.

Thailand is having an election right now. Last time I checked, that was the definition of democracy.

A "better future" much like Ukraine as the US uses, abuses and discards another puppet.
If you check you'll find this "movement" is funded by the US National.Endowment for Democracy". They are looking to further the interests of the rich US elite and don't care about the people of Thailand at all.

They have been attempting to establish democratic rule since the 1930s, but their efforts have been repeatedly thwarted by foreign powers such as the British, Japanese, and Americans during the Cold War. These foreign powers provided financial and other forms of support to sustain the military and monarchy, serving their own self-interests and foreign policy goals. It is important to note that Thailand is not unique in this situation, and although it was never colonized, it was not free from external influences that hindered the people's right to govern themselves.

We hold Thai Prayut accountable for the safety of the escaped Uyghurs in Thailand, who are persecuted by the Chinese regime.
