Thank you for always presenting Thailand to the world in many cool unique ways!

Good luck, Thai bro. I can understand frustration with monopolies, and with an economy based 50% on Bangkok alone. I can also understand not wanting to rock the boat. I hope you guys find an amicable solution and a good way forward for the Thai people.

Finally got my Thai citizenship last year just in time to register to vote. This single vote mattered more to me than than all the votes I've made in Denmark. There is a real hope for change in freedoms and structure in Thailand. No one knows what happens next, it depends on wether the senators will budge. However, in any case I am so proud of Thailand for coming out and voting for what they believe is right.

Thailand has been through many violent conflicts. Thailand's political stability is instability. Because Thailand gives freedom in almost every aspect to the people. Even under a dictatorial government Thai people still have freedom and use that freedom. although sometimes it may be used beyond the limits You must always see the internal conflicts of Thai people. because that means freedom and there will be no government at all that will not make Thai people conflict with each other and as long as Thai people are still in conflict You can be confident that Thai people still have freedom as long as that.😂😂

Incidentally, my husband has been to Thailand twice, trip one was at the tsunami 😣 (they moved from danger just days before, on a whim) and trip two there was a military coup....hoping trip three is a charm 🙈 but when i seen the news reports, i got nervous! The head of Future Forwarding Party, the PM candidate guy -Pita, owns an iTV stocks. Big NO NO in any country's politics as candidacy unless he proves otherwise. Owning a news media stock as part of the owner, will put him in a so much advantageous position compared to other candidates as his new media can influence the outcome of the election and it might already have. ITV company produces the material and content for ThaiPBS, that's what I was told.

While I do not know the COI or emolument regulations in Thailand, I am sure there are avenues for those in Thailand (and in the Public Sector) to avoid creating conflicts of interest. Very few youth go out in the world to learn and observe and challenge their views, most just to go out and try to force everything to fit into their already existing world view that they learned in school.

As a 75 year-old Thai with some education in USA & Japan, I agree with many ideas of the Move Forward Party but not the aggressive approaches the young people are going for. Thailand has been struggled for almost a thousand years to unite peoples and build up our home land among conflicts and disparities. I hope young generations know how to pay back to their mother land as we elder people have done throughout our life as Baby Boomers.

Why shocking? If you have been here awhile and know Thai people well you would have realised the mood for change was in the air. Not just to get rid of the "old-old-guard" but also to deny another Shinawatra control. In fact the result is as much a defeat for PTP as it was for the old old guards. And with the Army leader announcing unequivocally "no more coups on his watch" the Army appointed Senate will most likely see the overwhelming public support for MFP to lead (Lest their own positions be undermined).

"Let's hope politics does not divide people like the US."
Unlike Thailand, as far as I know, to date, the US Military has not staged a coup to stop political parties and their supporters from destroying the country.
In short, in Thailand the military was in power to prevent a political division causing the Thailand slipping into what could have civil war in the worse case.
Going forward, lets hope Thailand can bridge the absolutely huge divides in race/ethnicity, education, class and economic/wealth.

    • @apiratchai
      @apiratchai ปีที่แล้ว

For me the US as an example for diversity is far too extreme.
Thailand is a developing country(with a bit underdeveloped in some aspect) surrounded by many competitor neighbors countries. Thai still have to focus more on forming up a strong economic and infrastructures.
Last decades most of coups are caused by conflicts between supporters clash between major parties and that dragged military in. Military were somewhat rightful at those times.
Now most of people in Bangkok are liberal and vote for same party, it’s not yet conclusive that it will be good or not. But at this time political activity in Bangkok is not going to escalate be near civil war as it used to be.

What I find bemusing is that foreigners from say the US, who grew up and are fully aware of the racial/ethnic issue in the US can be apparently unaware of the racial/ethnic issue in Thailand that has led to military coups to prevent in the worse case civil war.
Why is the race/ethnic issue not discussed by TH-camrs when talking about Thai politics.
A casual Google search will find the issue.
Why do foreigners never discuss why the military was in power ?
One simply cannot understand what Pita said without knowing the context of the statements.
For example in the video clip in which Pita talked about ending monopolies.
Which monopolies? Who owns and controls the monopolies?
And decentralisation of power away from Bangkok.
Who has the power in Bangkok ?
Why is the coverage of Thai politics so shallow ?
A person simply walking around Bangkok can notice the difference in who the taxi driver are, the workers in the entertainment industry are, the security guards etc and who are the doctors, lawyers, senior executives and the politicians are.
Or who are the heros and heroines in Thai TV soap and who are the cooks, clearners, drivers, gardeners in Thai soap operas.
However, apparently farang expats do not have an eye for it.
It would like going to the US not seeing the racial/ethnic issue there.
The difference being in Thailand the issue caused military coups.
