The way my dad taught me was, usually more in a grassy area like above your ankles height is good. Take the cloth and lay it flat then sponge it up, flip it to another spot and go until it’s soaked. Then wring out a bunch more water than what he was getting. Still works though.

Sponge is more efficient. You can collect more, quicker.
Don't forget to puritab the water (if possible) before drinking

Purifying shouldn't be necessary if its dew water. That's water that was only vapor a few hours (at most) earlier. If you're in an environment that can contaminate dew water to the point of making you sick, you've got much bigger problems.

In a survival situation, you will not have a sponge, so use your shirt like he told you to use.

There are viruses on the plants themselves. You might get sick, you might not so its good practice to boil or tab.

You don't worry about viruses if you're in desperate need of water.

So dramatic though. Do mammals generally drink this dew? Or just uh...collect it in their fur and lick it up?

If you're stranded without water, I guess you wouldn't do anything to survive going by your comment.
This isn't for someone who has enough resources to sustain themself. This is a tip for whenever you find yourself out there, far from any drinkable water source, struggling to stay hydrated.
Disappointed that someone had to explain this in the first place.

after seeing that acril jacobs didn't understand your question i'd respond that, for what i know and what i saw, animals with fur don't lick their fur for water, small mammals do it for other reasons and big mammals like cows I don't even think would get they can lick their fur, so it's more probable that they'd try to lick dew if thei're really thirsty. but again, I don't really know

There is actually a beetle or similar insect in the very dry Namib desert in Southern Africa that waits to be "dewed" upon, regularly standing on a dune to have its fill from a drop of morning water. Read about it and saw its picture years ago. Don't know details anymore, but maybe some other reader could complete the lecture!
