    Minister Chee, you seem to have missed that foreign and corporate bidders, even though they make up a small percentage, might still drive up COE prices because they can afford to bid higher. Without knowing how much they’re actually bidding, it’s premature to rule out their impact. Perhaps a separate COE category for these groups or implementing varied COE prices based on engine capacity could help ensure fairer competition and better price management.

    How can you effectively control road traffic if the population is allowed to increase? How can the Quality of Life for Local Singaporeans not be affected by this Policy?.
    Good time to recall what LKY said;
    Mr Lee KY said that we’ve grown in the last five years by just importing labour. Now the people feel uncomfortable, there are too many foreigners. Trains are overcrowded with foreigners. Buses, too. Property Prices have gone up because foreigners with PR visas are buying into the market. [Ref: 15 March 2010]

    People who seriously don’t need cars are all the speakers in this forum, armed with mouths is all u need, no heavy baggages of equipments to go work, no standby peripheral you may not or may need during the course when you conduct your businesses, or the need to transport people and goods to multiple places .

    Congestion is directly proportional to population size. Demand for goods & services will definitely increases; accomodation, food, transport, leisure, utilities and waste will definitely increases.

    Separate COE category for rental PHV!!! Otherwise these fleet owners will just makan all the extra quota. Shoule be the same as taxis.

    - Maintain separate COEs for private hire vehicles.
    - Implement varied COE prices based on engine capacity.
    - Offer COE renewal options at intervals of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 years.

      The problem is if private hire cars have lower COEs, ppl can buy a Mercedes and claim it's for private hire and put a lower COE but who is going to check if they really use it for private hire.
      They can use it for PH for 1 hr in 365 days or less

      @@lingth separate category for fleet owners that lease out vehicles for phv. Increase road tax for privately owned cars for phv licence driver.

    I think LTA should mandate car dealerships to sell their cars without COE like what Tesla is doing. Like Tesla, they can offer to bid COE on their customers’ behalf but this allows more customers to bid on their own. When dealers bid (as opposed to consumers), it is not in their commercial interest to drive the COE premiums as low as possible.

    Not dream of owning a car, it is actually a need. Try handling kids, the elderly and balancing the time. Pluus now flats are closer to mrt. Wasnt the case in the past.
    For CTE issues, you just have to look at the number of towns it serve and the options of routes that one can take to reach towns like woodlands, sembawang or yishun.
    Actually if we say that owning a car is for the privileged, why are we giving subsidies to people who stay in HDB but own a car?

    More COE means more money for government, more year end bonuses for the civil servants......also, more cars buying commitment means people have to work harder, cannot retire, work till masuk coffins.....what else? 😮

    when population increased, more new houses build, more new estate ( more car parks ) created but the car population is kept constant, the COE cost surely will go up. in certain peak hour and very popular meeting points, there will be jammed regardless of car population being kept constant or increase at 1%. we should impose higher cost when travelling at those peak hours and popular meeting points. and we should allow certain level of jam due to peak hour. the cost and precious time wasted on the road will be the deterrence to drive during those peak hours and those focus points. cost cannot be the only factor.

    Coe should have increased 50% every year. A lot of singaporean are wealthy, and they clearly can afford it. Lawrence wong should continue to raise GST. 9% is too fking cheap. I hope to see 20% to 30% in the coming years.

    Oh no, hate to see the mumbling walter is because of him our transport fares keep raising. He always think think think but no practical solutions.if can't gjve solution don't waste time talking nonsense. Singaporean owned car are just to showed off not real needs as small island so convenient why need car not like Malaysia need to drive few hours to reach other state.
