I was going to mention that Dolly Parton is a national treasure, but I see David H. beat me to it. 😃This is so much fun, their voices blend well together, and you do a great job of pointing out the differences and their choices. How many years has Dolly been singing Jolene?? FIFTY years this year. Talk about longevity! She and Miley clearly love each other and enjoyed every minute of this.
On another note, I think most of those here would agree with me that we learn so much from your analyses. You really do a wonderful job of explaining things in a way that just makes sense, even for those of us with limited vocal performance backgrounds. I would imagine you do the same with your students, if I had to guess. ❤
BUT.
We also never know what else we will get, especially when you get excited about what is happening. Your joy overflows, resulting in examples like this:

Dolly and Pentatonix is probably my favorite version of this song and I've probably heard it more than anyone. Have had strangers sing it to me lol.

I was pretty impressed with Miley when she sang "Nothing Else Matters" with Metallica on the Howard Stern Show. I think she did a fantastic job, you should check that out Jen!

Luv how you go to nerd heaven, Thx Jen. Dolly Parton IMO is one of the greatest ever and and I do not use that term often. I believe that in order to even be considered in that vein an artist has to bring the complete package, you need to have a great voice, be an entertainer, write your own lyrics and musical score, but most important be able to pull an audience in and have them believe what you are trying to tell them in each story that you present. I wonder how many fans actually know that Dolly Parton has written hundreds of songs for dozens of artists. Never get tired of great music no matter the genre. thx again keep it up.
Brent, I understand your standard and I agree Ms Dolly Pardon has it! Yes, I do know her long history. I also continue wish her good health, her husband of over 50 + years good health, & both of them continued happiness. I like listening to her even at this age. Just like I like listening to Ray Stevens at this age too.
I do believe Dolly said "I'm gonna kick your butt" when you did not understand lol I am from an area close to where Dolly grew up, and kind of have a similar accent. She does say it fast and there is a lot of sound there, but I am pretty sure that is what she said. They blend so well with each other.

I didn't even know Dolly Parton was still around. I'm not that much into country most of the time. But it's always nice seeing musicians having fun on stage while playing good music.
I wouldn't complain about more videos covering this concert, but as you and Drew were talking about there is so much good music out there and so little time.
There are a few bands I would love to suggest, but I also know that your list is probably several hundred songs long, already.

You know it's good when Jenn's gotta punch stuff. 😉 Dolly -- no one will ever sound like her again. You should analyze Pentatonix singing this with Dolly. I'm not crazy for Pentatonix but that session with Dolly is special. The collaboration won them a Grammy; Dolly's first for that song.

This was very nice, although at the end it seemed to me that Dolly might have been lip-syncing. But that doesn't take away the greatness in the song and the show.
I get a sense that Miley is starting to move away from the pop stuff and back to her roots. I hope she can find a way to develop again. She is very good once you get passed the trash that's happened.
