So if they sign Soto, they will be counting an awful lot of internal players picking up slack.
Jazz will stay at 3B and hopefully be a consistent defender. Durbin is likely the 2B. Decent change of DJ/Rice timeshare at 1B. Dominguez would for sure be a starting outfielder.

If Soto ends up on the Mets it swings the power balance in the majors so heavily over to the NL. You are talking about the best teams in baseball being Dodgers, Padres, Mets, for sure. You could even argue Phillies and Braves are all better than any team in the American League. Of course there are always surprises when the season starts but the yankees line up without Soto isn’t looking that promising. Of course picking up Walker would be a big help but his bat isn’t Soto’s. They’re looking like a .500 team if Judge has to miss any time at all.

Everyone deserves what they generate the top players deserve the most money because people pay to see them play when’s the last time you went to a Yankees game to watch Tim Hill pitch! You pay to see Judge Soto and if Cole is on the mound Cole!

He is going to the Mets, this coming from a yankees fan. He doesnt care about the history or the championships, he wants the most money. The mets can offer that. This yankees team is horrible defensively, and has been for a long time. They rely on offense aka the homerun way too much. They need to spend big on upgrades for the infield, one solid outfielder and one solid pitcher. 600+ million would do that, the only thing is they wont spend that much to do it. If they dont get soto theyll spend about half of that and plug in in house options. People also mention the payroll but its relative to their market. They should be a top spender every year they make the most money in baseball.

You guys are freaking selfish, it does not matter how Steve get the money from to sign Juan soto, not of your business. Remember Steinbrenner senior back 80s. 90s and early 2000s no teams on the mlb couldn’t compete with him on getting top talent so it is Mets turn and other teams turns. Thanks God Steve cohen bought the Mets to end your selfishness

George was reinvesting the Yankees money back into the team, not his personal wealth. George wasn't that wealthy comparatively, putting maybe a couple hundred K of his own cash into the group that bought the team. He then kept putting all the profits back into building the team. Cohen is using his own personal money. Not saying that's wrong or right, just noting there's a significant difference.

    • @charleskletter8974

Stop making Steve Cohen out to be some kind of genius with wealth. The Mets have no history of winning. They replaced the Brooklyn Dodgers now LA Dodgers and the NY Giants aka San Francishitgo Giants. The last championship the Mets won was 86 when they developed their own talent from the draft and farm system no blow everyone away with mega contracts to players who’s agents are greedy - Scott Boras. If the Mets really wanted Soto why didn’t they trade for him this past 2023 off season. They didn’t. They have a GM who believes in developing the team within the farm system. So you Muts got to the NLCS. You got lucky as the playoff system is wide open with this stupid wild card system. Buying players doesn’t lead to championships. Even George Steinbrenner knew that when he was reinstated in the early 90s. There is no winning history with the Muts/Mets. I don’t care how much money your uncle Stevie Cohen has, it’s how you build your team not buy your team. The Yankees, Dodgers are winning franchises. The Mets will never be. They like the Jets and Rangers never learn that blowing money at players doesn’t lead to success. It’s how you build your team within. Cohen is one of these spoiled little rich boys who grew up a Mets fan seeking revenge against the Yankees. If he was smart he would let his GM run the team and build within the farm system while making key trades. Same can be said about my Yankees. With Soto, Yankees don’t lose star players when they have them. Your owner Cohen has the media by the balls. Even if let’s say Soto signed with the Mets, they would go nowhere. You use your teams resources not your own personal finances. It’s called smart business something uncle Cohen needs to learn and spoiled immature Mets fans need to learn.

@alyssafriedman7726 As much as I'd like to see him stay. I have to admit, I can live with him going to the Mets for more money. You can't be mad at someone for wanting a pay raise.
However, I would probably lose respect for him if he signed with The Dodgers or Boston. That changes the whole dynamics.
