I'm actually really glad the farming sim genre is becoming more mainstream. I remembered playing harvest moon tree of tranquility and harvest moon animal parade way back in grade school where I always thought to myself, "there needs to be more games like this." I always find it interesting to see how developers will create a farming sim and see how their take on it will be. My favorite farming sims are harvest moon tree of tranquility, harvest moon animal parade, rune factory 3/4, stardew valley, and story of seasons trio of towns
I’ve gotten pretty burned out when it comes to farming sims, mostly because they tend to not have a good story or unique mechanics besides farming, but some people like that so I respect that. I don’t play that many farming sims anymore, but there are some I enjoy like Story of Seasons, Fae Farms, Rune Factory, and Harvestella. Great video as always !
I personally love that the mechanics are not changing with every single farming sim cause I do play those other high energy games but when so many games have EXTREMELY different controls and I feel like I have to re-learn the game when I pick it up it can overwhelm me. I play games like Stardew to relax and chill out, not for New and Exciting. If that makes sense.
Growing up, I played a ton of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. Now that I’m older, I don’t really have the time to dedicate to such slow games. I understand the appeal, but I just don’t find enjoyment in the genre anymore. It’s a genre you kinda have to dedicate big chunks of time to in order to get any sort of meaningful progress.
I grew up with the OG Harvest Moon and then Rune Factory (My faves) and I’m so happy that there’s a lot, but on ghe other hand it’s easy to get a burn out. I HIGHLY recommend Kynseed! I’m loving it so fat and I rarely see it mentioned. I also adore Gleaner Heights, which has a vibe of Twin Peaks (If you haven’t seen it, I recommend watching it). It also has DLC and is on the Switch and PC
Awesome video Feji! I love the growth I've seen in the farming sim genre over the past years. I love them as a quick pick up and play when I don't feel for intense/high octane type games. Sometimes, I just want to chill and pretend I own a farm 😂
i used to love harvest moon games when i was a kid, and recently got the carve for a cozy game again, and i found My Time at Sandrock, i love the heck out of it! Its a "farming sim" but also much more than that, plus theres voice acting and its so so good. After playing this, im having trouble finding another cozy game up to this standard.. oh and i have over 100hours played with AC:NH but tbh i hated it, i was just being persistent because i wanted to find out why people love AC so much, i just dont get it personally, i find it utterly boring, but i should say im not into interior design. Ive looked into Rune Factory 5 but I didnt really like the graphics tbh, and I want character customization.. Perhaps RF6 will be it.
Thank you for the video. Farming sims (and life sims i guess) will be fine. They are in the Imitation stage for now, where everyone is trying to make their own "New Last Big Thing", in this case Stardew. However there are still big games coming out of it with Harvestella, RuneFactory and even Stardew got an update on Steam last month. In a strange way history is repeating itself with what happened with Souls Like games, where after the first Dark Souls game a bunch of inspired Indie games tried to copy the success, only for the ones that innovated on the formula or did things their way prevailed. As for my personal favorites, its hard to beat Stardew. So instead of the obvious answer may i present to you one of only 3 games that i had on my first hand me down PC, 1993 SimFarm. Peak pixel graphix, charming music all on a screen quarter of the size of today's phones (pixel count not actual size).

Totally true! I’m here for more cozy games just want a little variety! Stardew has been so much fun!

HARVESTELLA is on my backlog that I really need to get into
If there are less being made people will be alright. There are plenty they can catch up on.

For sure! Especially after long day of work or school, a cozy farming game is the best way to unwind!

Stardew has me in a chokehold right now! Absolutely loving it!
