i love how much faith igon puts in you because he saw first hand your strength. infact i just love how much respect to your power most npcs give in elden ring. in dark souls npcs always acted like you didn’t just murder a deity 10 minutes ago
Of course it does. Igon and Bayle are practically an homage to Ahab and Moby Dick, a rivalry you just can't beat in terms of absolute rage and hatred...
What's so peak about Igon is the fact that he's basically just a normal dude. He was born into a terrible situation and was forced to scavenge to survive. Then he found respite in dragon communion, only for Bayle to immediate screw him and ruining what little hope he had. So this basically normal guy is dead set on taking revenge against the legendary ancient dragon that could've taken down the King of Dragons if not for the Dragon God, and he manages to do it with the help of the player. This guy could've soloed a god if he wanted to.
Exactly -- this is a genuinely well told story of revenge. At first when I heard his lines, I wasn't sure why he was so mad at Bayle (I assumed something big must've went down because of how eager he was for you to summon him) and when you learn about Bayle and Placidusax' interactions.. it all makes sense What a phenomenal little storyline
@@Spid4r1 He definitely could of. Bastard was angry and determined enough to crawl towards the mountain in stumps while fighting the deathbirds, beastmen and the dragon men by himself. Had his previous fight with Bayle not traumatize him, he would be raring to go for a round two without resorting to being summoned.
Recently I was with my cousin up in Takoma and we were talkin' about the dlc and I shit you not, the moment I brought up Bayle we both shouted "CURSE YOU BAYLE" in perfect unison and it was one of the greatest moments of my life. I haven't even played the dlc before, that's just the sheer power Igon holds.
There's so many great ones to choose from but Igon became one of the most recognizable (and memable) ones for sure Feels like Varre calling us maidenless all over again
Too bad I messed up his questline by accidentally killing bayle before the 2 drakes on the jagged peak. Once I did kill them he was just dead on the side of the road.
Most NPC summons feel like a friend, or provide cool dialogue in the fight that adds some additional story. But Igon makes you feel like a true drake warrior and gets you absolutely HYPED for the battle. May Bayle haunt him no longer, and may the voice actor have his salary doubled
Spot on -- I think so far the best NPC summon moments have been Siegward in DS3 vs Yhorm (although he just kinda walks in there as opposed to summoning him) and Igon vs Bayle. So much storytelling in just a few lines, and in the case of Igon, an actual hype-man out there not only to motivate you, but also to destroy his sworn enemy
That last part of Tarnished being dead while Igon is standing there is sooo damn accurate. Literally my ng7 Bayle experience. Peak boss, peak npc and peak dlc overall though.
This is probably one of my favorite videos of all time. The original blood + thunder meme is one of my all time favorites, and after playing the DLC and fighting Bayle i started to think about how much Igon is literally just Ahab and Bayle is his white whale. This shit scratches so many specific itches for me it’s insane, my autism has been satiated. Thank you so much for making this.
Its written all over his interactions, his circumstance and his item description. To this end, the player is Ishmael, being the only one witness to the great Igon's final battle against a force of nature.
Everything surrounding Igon and Bayle has been phenomenally done. Bayle in particular became my favourite dragon boss. Even just looking at him as a boss (without the dragon component being mixed in) I think he's one of the greatest, up there with Isshin, Gael, Friede, etc.
“Metaphors? I hate metaphors. That’s why my favorite book is Moby-Dick. No fru-fru symbolism, just a good, simple tale about a man who hates an animal" - Ron Swanson
It's badass how Igon starts talk shit immediately after being summoned and how fast he responded you from the sign. Madlad waited for this very moment to curse Bayle and helped us kill this foul dragon.
The fact that he introduces us as the '''true drake warrior'' was one of the best moments imo -- actually puts some respect onto our name, which in turn made me respect him all the more
Mogh when the DLC came out: *CURSE YOUU MIQUELLAAAAAAAAA!!!* *I HEREBY VOW, YOU WILL RUE THIS DAY!* *BEHOLD, A TRUE LORD OF BLOOD AND I, MOGH!* *YOUR FEAR MADE FLESH!* *SOILD OF CONSORT, YOU MAY HAVE FOUL EMPYREAN* *BUT I WILL RIDDLE WITH HOLES YOUR ROTTON COMPASSION!* *WITH A HAIL OF NIHIL!!!* *WITH EVERY LAST DROP OF MY BEING!!!*
I absolutely agree with everything you said I've been thinking about it and honestly I think he became my favourite dragon fight of all time (I still adore Midir though) That, and Igon's performance, like you mentioned, made it iconic. I wouldn't be surprised if 10 years down the line people will still meme about the whole ''CURSE YOU BAYLE'' thing
@@viniolivvI read about that earlier today, though I have my doubts because "didn't know it was a dragon" but says the word dragon in one of the lines, although I think that's a common thing in VAing, where sometimes you don't know wtf you're voicing ahah
I liked how much Bayle and Igon mirrored each other both are lower socially speaking with bayle being a drake not a dragon and igon being low born as well. And both are so scarred by the time of their fight that they both can only fight due to summoning their own souls to propel them. igon needs this more so but bayle does summon extra wings. When i first saw igon i had no clue he was gonna be so great.
I absolutely love this little description -- you're spot on, my jaw was dropped when I saw Bayle's phase 2 transformation -- it still remains as one of my favourite of all time. As for Igon, yep -- I didn't think much of him when I first saw him out in the open, then at the foot of the jagged peak, everything changed and that's when the build up started. And what a pay off it had.

I heard it took him around 8 hours to record all of his line and Miyazaki himself was in there with him directing the retakes before it was *truly perfect* Miyazaki is the god king emperor, long may he cook
I absolutey agree with everything you said -- the build up for going through the Jagged Peak has been absolutely amazing too. What a phenomenal experience
Right? I was so excited going through the Jagged Peak and seeing what's gonna happen -- the area itself was one of the most cinematic FS experiences (imo) with all the drakes fighting, lighting coming down, the fog obscuring everything below the peak -- and then Igon to top it all of. it was just perfect all around for me. I loved it
Thiollier, Ansbach, and Igon, are by far the best things about the DLC, and from home, Boc, Latenna, Boggart, Rya, Alexander, Roderika, Sellen, Millicent, and Hewg, they are the only ones who see you as a true comrade and confidant. Those twelve have faith in you, and that makes the struggle one worth fighting for.
When I summoned and eventually killed Bayle with him, bro was so pissed he infinitely spammed dragon claw to the point of clipping out of bounds through a wall. 10/10 character.

@Punishthefalse i mean igon kinda died, but atleast he got what he wanted
10/10, fantastic reference/quote
i love how much faith igon puts in you because he saw first hand your strength. infact i just love how much respect to your power most npcs give in elden ring. in dark souls npcs always acted like you didn’t just murder a deity 10 minutes ago
I absolutely love that he says "BEHOLD A GREAT DRAKE WRRIOR, AND I, IGON" he's literally hyping you up
I feel like Igon’s hatred for BAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE rivals the hatred Guts had for GRIFFFIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITH
dude is literally ahab to our ishmael.
The Virgin Berserk comparison VS the Chad Moby Dick comparison
Of course it does. Igon and Bayle are practically an homage to Ahab and Moby Dick, a rivalry you just can't beat in terms of absolute rage and hatred...
@@sudanemamimikiki1527what kinda hocus pocus are you talking about? 😂
@@coatguy2990limbus company
What's so peak about Igon is the fact that he's basically just a normal dude.
He was born into a terrible situation and was forced to scavenge to survive. Then he found respite in dragon communion, only for Bayle to immediate screw him and ruining what little hope he had. So this basically normal guy is dead set on taking revenge against the legendary ancient dragon that could've taken down the King of Dragons if not for the Dragon God, and he manages to do it with the help of the player.
This guy could've soloed a god if he wanted to.
Exactly -- this is a genuinely well told story of revenge. At first when I heard his lines, I wasn't sure why he was so mad at Bayle (I assumed something big must've went down because of how eager he was for you to summon him) and when you learn about Bayle and Placidusax' interactions.. it all makes sense
What a phenomenal little storyline
@@fermyondseasily the most memorable one in this dlc for me...
yeah... not really. but hey, angry npc fun, right?
@@Spid4r1 He definitely could of. Bastard was angry and determined enough to crawl towards the mountain in stumps while fighting the deathbirds, beastmen and the dragon men by himself. Had his previous fight with Bayle not traumatize him, he would be raring to go for a round two without resorting to being summoned.
Anger is a hell of a motivator

It's even more amazing when you get to know that it's his first debut in video game voice acting.
I heard about this. Apparently he didn't take video game VA seriously compared to other voice acting until Miyazaki hired him.
I will never forgive fromsoft for not letting us hear npc/boss voicelines when summoned in coop

I needed this animation the moment i heard Igom talked for first time, 10/10 chef kiss

The sheer emotion in the voice acting, the song, the visuals, i usually HATE dragon fights but man this bayle fight was absolute PEAK
Placidusax and Bayle were the only good ones.
Bayle feels to me like the Gael of dragon fights. Nothing comes close, aside maybe midir.
Everything surrounding Igon and Bayle has been phenomenally done. Bayle in particular became my favourite dragon boss. Even just looking at him as a boss (without the dragon component being mixed in) I think he's one of the greatest, up there with Isshin, Gael, Friede, etc.
Amazing that Igons voice goes around in a circle sound channel-wise 😅

I've been thinking about it and honestly I think he became my favourite dragon fight of all time (I still adore Midir though)
That, and Igon's performance, like you mentioned, made it iconic. I wouldn't be surprised if 10 years down the line people will still meme about the whole ''CURSE YOU BAYLE'' thing
Whatever amount FS paid to the Igon's voice actor, wasn't enough, pay him more, the man delivered in every single way possible.
I whole heartedly agree with you. He went above and beyond -- I genuinely didn't expect how crazy things would get with him
I like how clueless and lost Richard (Igon's VA) was about his role in Elden Ring but he still delivered the best performance he could
@@viniolivvI read about that earlier today, though I have my doubts because "didn't know it was a dragon" but says the word dragon in one of the lines, although I think that's a common thing in VAing, where sometimes you don't know wtf you're voicing ahah

Holy shit. The Blood and Thunder meme resurfaces. This is so cool
And on the 20th anniversary of the albums release. Absolute cinema
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Old memes are always great!
The most accurate part of this is us being dead before he even finishes his speech
Characters of other medias seek revenge: vain, gratuitous violence, linear and simple minded
Characters of Elden Ring seek revenge: achieves the greatest human heights
Everything is possible if you feel just enough hatred. Which, thankfully, Igon had plenty of

man Igon knows how to hype you the fuck UP
his speech + the music + the visuals make for the best fight in the dlc imo
I absolutey agree with everything you said -- the build up for going through the Jagged Peak has been absolutely amazing too. What a phenomenal experience
This questline is peak cinema
I loved it
This is a meme format I havent seen in a long time and its a shame too.
I never thought I would see this meme be brought back, reminds me of the good ol' days.
Igon is fucking insane, and I love it
His insanity and rage is what gives him the charm we love him for -- Wish we had more characters like him!
He’s fit for a place in yarnum lol.
Exactly!! Honestly one thing I love about Elden Ring is just how many great NPCs there are. You're 100% spot on
When I summoned and eventually killed Bayle with him, bro was so pissed he infinitely spammed dragon claw to the point of clipping out of bounds through a wall. 10/10 character.
That's dedication from his end! He was just BM'ing Bayle lol
There is nothing more appealing than pure unabridged hate and fury for a beast that can defend itself, and will, without doubt, defend itself
The combination of Elden Ring and the Mastodon rage comic is a matrimony so niche I didn’t even conceive it a possibility, but I’m glad it exists
Anything is possible if you meme it hard enough!
no whale here
You're certainly right, Ahab and Igon would take care of any and all whales (and drakes, but that's besides the point)
Miyazaki and GRRM really just had Captain Ahab fight Balerion the Black Dread from ASOIAF
This guy was literally my motivational speaker

I absolutely agree with you. I still love Midir but damn Bayle has overthrown him, at least in my eyes

Guess it is my narrative to **CURSE YOU BAAAAAAYLE!**
Igon is a real one because anger and its children (rage, hatred, spite) are, in fact, some of the most powerful human motivators.
