Somehow I seem to recall that the corner where Sultan Al Sham is located was a cannabis joint! My memory is really starting to go 😅 What you had (4:08) looks really good and I might just go for the same when the next opportunity arises 😋 Tks for the vid.

I have the same problem with my memory, and it's getting worse as I get older! I also can't remember what was there before. I'm sure you can find much better Middle Eastern food in Malaysia, Singapore, and elsewhere, but this place is a welcome addition to Hat Yai's restaurant scene because there isn't much variety. I'd love to see a Mexican restaurant, a really good Indian restaurant, a really good pizza restaurant (not Pizza Hut or the Pizza Company), etc., but this is very unlikely to happen. Lunch today was Bt289. It's quite expensive for Hat Yai, but there's nothing else like it here. Worth a try!

Sultan has a branch in Hat Yai Central Festival food court as well. It's also available on Grab.

Thanks! My buddy Johnny told me the same thing, but I was there last week and didn't see it. I'll clean my glasses and try to find it next time!

In my opinion the restaurant is aimed at Malay tourist from Malaysia. I don't the the number, but my observation - Malay tourist from Malaysia easily outnumbered Chinese Malaysian since early 2023. Halal food is surely in demand now in Hatyai.
In central (Kuala Lumpur area) and southern (Johor), it's number 1 destination for Malays - (middle and low income) to visit Hatyai. Many tours both chartered and schedule buses enjoys good load factors especially during holidays.
The "freedom" in going to cheap massages and available every corner of Hatyai city center is the main crowd puller apart from great shopping deals.

Thanks for your comment. It's always interesting to get a Malaysian perspective of Hat Yai. I've seen several articles saying how popular Hat Yai is with Malaysians. I've always sensed that most tourists are Chinese, but yes, there are now quite a few Malays and also some Indians.

Any chance you could do a review of the big stewed goose restaurant opposite the wholesale market?

I'm not sure where you mean. Do you have a name or address for the restaurant?
