Jay's "UltraCrepidarian" Response to Yasir Qadhi

- Just before midnight, on November 24th, Yasir Qadhi gave a "Chat" where he decided to "smackdown" myself and David Wood, because we had "illegally used his name", which was an "evil tactic", proving that we were not "real academics", "without integrity", "untrained", "unqualified", "vulgar", "vial", "noxious", "uncouth", and "not men of God"...whew! What a 'smackdown'.
He then went into a diatribe against me, followed by one against David, and then against Daniel Brubaker (whom he called "David").
His introduced 3 problems from 2 of my videos, though they had nothing to do with him, or his interview, or even the material concerning the Qira'at and Ahruf, the very discussion which I have talked about now for 'umpteen' times since his infamous interview on the subject in June 8!
He laughed at my usage of the name 'Baghdad' for the 7th century, since that name was only applied in the mid-8th century; while my use of the name Cairo, a city given that name in the 10th century, suggests I was out of my league.
What he didn't realize is that whenever I'm referring to ancient cities, I use only their modern names, so that people today will know what cities I'm referring to, and be able to locate them on a map.
What's more, he suggested that the name for Cairo I should have used was 'Kahira', which is simply the Arabic pronunciation for Cairo, not realizing that it also only came into existence in the 10th century; yet, the 7th century Arabic name was 'Al Fustat', something he didn't know, proving the last laugh's on him!
He assumed that when I referred to the 1924 dumping into the Nile of 29 differing Qira'at Qur'ans, that I believed these included every Qur'an in the world at that time. Where he got that notion I don't know?
In the video he "glanced at", we only suggest (jokingly) that by simply dumping the 29 Qur'ans into the Nile won't get rid of all the Qu'rans which were in the high schools there in Cairo at that time, which was the reason in the first place that one of them had to be chosen as the standard text. Yasir should have watched the whole segment to get the context before throwing aspersions against us.
His view that I believed someone had gone to all the oldest Qur'anic manuscripts in all the museums around the world and changed them all since 1924 was a valid criticism, as I did suggest that back in May of 2019.
I no longer say that, however, and now suggest that these 4,000+ consonantal changes to the earliest Qur'anic Manuscripts, probably occured during the Ottoman empire (i.e. since 1299 AD), when they would have been under their jurisdiction.
I'm going to let David Wood and Dan Brubaker respond to the criticisms Yasir leveled at them, though I would love to know where Dr Qadhi believes Daniel looked at 10,000 manuscripts for his research into the consonantal text? Dan only researched around 10 for his PhD thesis, and a handful more since then. 10,000 is incredulously inaccurate, the very example of what Qadhi claims we have done in our own statements against him.
At the end of my response I turned to Dr Qadhi and asked him 5 questions, which I hope he will respond to:
1) Which of the 30 official Qira'at Qur'ans is the one in heaven, or the one revealed to Muhammad by Jibril, or the one which was written down by Uthman in 652 AD? This is the same question Mohammed Hijab kept asking him in the final 25 minutes of his interview on June 8th.
2) He mentioned the "corruption of Yale" in this video. What does he mean by that, and was he corrupted in Yale, leading to his "Crisis of Knowledge" which he referred to in the interview?
3) He said in his 'smackdown' video that he shouldn't have used certain words, such as his reference to "holes in the standard narrative", and that was why he had to delete that interview. What then did he mean by the "holes in the narrative", and what other phrase or words would he now choose to explain these very real problems with the Qira'ats, which have now existed for over 1,000 years?
4) Does Dr Qadhi still believe that the Qur'an we have today is the same "word for word, letter for letter" as that which was revealed to Muhammad in 632, or remains in heaven eternally?
5) Finally, Where is this ubiquitous Uthmanic Qur'an he keeps talking about, and when can he show us the first complete Qur'anic manuscript (i.e. all 114 Surahs) which is exactly "word for word, letter for letter" like the Hafs Qur'an we have today?
Yasir Qadhi ended his "chat" by saying he didn't want anything more to do with us, and walked away from any further discussion, including stopping all comments from his video. Yet, he called us all kinds of names, mis-quoted what we said, set up arguments against us which didn't even exist, and now refuses to respond.
Let's see if he can at least answer these 5 questions above. Hold this space!

If they keep blasting Christians and saying “oh, but you don’t speak Arabic “ how many of them speak Aramaic or Classical Greek? By their logic they can’t criticize Christianity if they can’t speak those two languages at least...
And besides, the Quran is supposed to be for all people, but most Muslims can’t speak Arabic anyway....They are taught to recite in Arabic but can’t actually read write or understand it 😂

One of the ironies of this whole episode happening this week is that Yasir Qadhi's video yesterday has played right into our hands. We couldn't have asked for a better and more public vehicle to use as a springboard to get these very damaging Qira'at and manuscript arguments to a much larger, and yet untapped Muslim audience.
Thank God for angry and emotional, yet seemingly unwise men like YQ!

I'm amazed at such a delusional statement as this while Jay Smith made these far-fetched claims that secret infiltrations took place around the globe to change ancient manuscripts in order to conform to the modern-text of the Qur‘ān. That is clearly indicating his desperation of disproving the preservation of the Qur‘ān by fabricating these ridiculous lies. It comes as no surprise that Yasir turned off the comments to that video! Also he says initially that he hasn´t listened much to David or Jay, and then a few minutes later says a lot of their material is coming from ´David´ Brubaker! So he´s listened to two 5 minute clips from Jay, even less from David, and he knows where most of their information is coming from! For the most part of his video, Yasir only does name calling! David´s surely going to have some fun with that video, and Yasir is going to have to take it down soon!

What about the verses that were found in the memory of just one man , which 'ahruf' were they ? How can the other six possibly be perfectly preserved if these verses were only found with one man ? Why was only one put into book for to ensure its preservation ?
Numerous Hadith state verses were lost. The Islamic histories say there were so many variant readings that Uthman had to burn the evidence. Then it had to be done again a few years later. No evidence of Uthmans alleged version survives to this day.The excuse in the histories - different dialects - is an anachronism because Arabic was not written with dots at that time, so your histories are demonstrably false. We have hundreds of different manuscripts with thousands of different variant readings.The earliest manuscripts do not conform to the "standard" hafs text of today. Early Islamic scholars openly discussed the textual variants and debated the correct reading. They had no idea it was supposedly perfectly preserved. There are over 30 different Arabic Qurans today. Even Islamic Quranic experts have not been able to come up with a coherent explanation for all the different "accepted" readings. The Hafs used by most (but not all) Muslims today was chosen because the variants were causing problems with different students giving different answers to test questions. There is no evidence that the "Hafs" chosen is any better than any of the 30+ versions rejected, or even other Hafs versions that were discarded, or that it actually goes back to Hafs (let alone Muhammad) in any way.There is no documentation on how it was chosen as it was done by a secret committee, much like Uthman's alleged version

Muhammad sold a land in Allah’s heaven to a man named Abu Al-Da’hda’h for a 600-palm-tree farm.
Muhammad told Abu Al-Da’hda’h that the farm was a loan to Allah, and then he granted Abu Al-Da’hda’h a place in heaven.

There have now been numerous western scholars whom have earned a specialty in islamic study, none of them taken as experts in their fields by the muslim community, be it layman or academic. Why is this.? Is this because they are not muslims.? Is this because Arabic was not their mother tongue, though it is not for most muslims either.? Or is it simply because they are from the west.? I dare say it is for all of those reasons and none of those reasons, boiling down to where all that is left is the fact that what you are saying is problematic because it does not affirm islam. Simply stated, if you affirm islam with your studies then you are taken as credible, if you do not affirm islam then you are automatically discredited as an academic. This is the logic which arises from those whom are forced to leave all reason at the door in order to hold on to ones islamic beliefs in the face of rigorous scrutiny.

YQ the hallmark of academic distinction is the capacity to listen to and have one's position critiqued. To do otherwise without providing a superior argument simply reduces scholarship to roadside ridicule.
