Why are Muslim Scholars MOVING THE GOALPOSTS?

- It is clear that all Muslims everywhere for the past 1300 years (note: not 1400 years) have believed that the Qur'an is completely preserved from any corruption, deletion, or any changes. Why, because the Qur'an stipulates that no one can change the 'Word of God' (Surahs 10:15, and 18:27), and that Allah will preserve and guard the Qur'an (Surah 15:9).
And this has also been the same narrative for two of the world's leading Muslim Scholars, Dr Shabir Ally and Dr Yasir Qadhi for as long as they have been teaching...until these past two months.
Yasir Qadhi has said numerous times that the Qur'an is the same today..."word for word, and letter for letter" as the Qur'an from the time of Muhammad and Uthman.
Shabir Ally has always maintained that the oldest Qur'anic manuscripts are exactly the same as the Hafs text which we use today.
Now, however, both scholars seem to be changing their narratives. They have both admitted within the past few weeks that there are variants in the Qur'an, and that the Qur'an used in North Africa has words and letters which are different from the Hafs Qur'an.
Dr Ally admitted in an interview which was just posted yesterday (July 7th) that there were different synonyms used in different dialectical Qur'ans, that the word order was changed in certain Qur'ans, and that different writings, even additions to the text can be found in the earliest manuscripts.
His only caveat was that these different words, letters, writings and additions didn't change any doctrines, beliefs or practices.
Even his daughter, Dr Saffiyah asked him how convincing his arguments were? To which he replied that they were for Muslims, but possibly not for secular scholars, which is certainly very true.
In the 24 years that I've known and engaged with Dr Ally, I've never heard him say what he is saying today.
Indeed, it seems that he and Dr Qadhi are now changing the goalposts concerning just how preserved and guarded their Qur'an really is.

I said, ‘Should I make my whole prayer for you’

Even now I find my muslim friends at work will not sit down and discuss these matters; I do feel sorry for them. Ok, so the narrative now is that allah taught mohd and mohd transferred the knowledge to his so called disciples in different types of recitation, who went to different parts of the world to teach the Quran. This is the reason for different versions of the Quran ( although the Muslims still say there is only one version ). If that's the case, then why did they have to agree on only version to be (1924 - Cairo manuscript) read henceforth, since it's mohd is the one who taught the rest in different versions. I have been studying Islam (student of Chis Hewer's school in London), The Study Quran, and also listening to these discussions and debates for the last 12 years. My feeling is it is high time for the scholars of Islam to write down an Islamic doctrinal creed similar to the Nicene Creed - I would say it is the 'Christian Standard'. What is the true creed of Islam at the present time, doctrinally ? It may be that Islam is still evolving in the same way Christianity evolved. My hunch is that it may be probably evolving towards the 'Omega point' (apologies to Pierre Teilhard de Chardin for adaption of a concept) - the point already reached by the main stream/orthodox Christians. I think Shabir Ally has most likely had his head in the sand somewhat and also believed his own hype about the Quran which many Muslims do. Now they are in the position of saying all these variant Qurans are in fact the Quran. No Muslim hearing that will accept this. I believe many would leave Islam or have their faith seriously dented if they were to adopt that view. Given that standpoint I would most likely leave Islam if I were a Muslim.
I'm not sure they will leave. Muslims have turned to their scholars throughout time to explain difficult passages. They rely on them.
Just look at the modern Islamic utubers. They are feverishly posting videos to explain and refute . Many Many Muslims I fear will accept their explanations.
In addition: why add to the Quran for clarity if the Quran itself claims to be clearly understandable?

Jumping late into this. But in my view this Dr. Shabir is a bold man in moving these milenar goal posts. I bed it is not easy for him to do it (perhaps he is even risking his life by admitting it!). If we would rely on western politicians for such a level of change this would never be possible. From the perspective of going for truth he deserves our recognition. All Islamic scholars know that there are 7 authentic recitations of the Holy Quran. They all do not contradict the meaning of the verses but rather provide more beauty and deeper understanding. For example Maalik (owner) versus Malik (king). Just a minor addition of letter adds meaning without contradicting the overall meaning.
This gentleman’s argument is like saying Islam cannot be true because there are different ways/styles of praying yet our belief is that differences within a broad boundary are a blessing and beauty of our religion.

The Quran is the preserved word of God, all thirty seven versions of it. The sad truth is that these scholars knew decades ago that their claims about "Holy Preservation" were total lies, and they covered the lies with more lies, why should anyone believe them now?
