    I fell in love with the 356 GTB Daytona when as a child I watched an episode of Columbo, ‘ Short Fuse ‘ and the late, great Roddy McDowall drove his silver one. ...just one more thing, great episode.

      I specifically remember that episode because of the silver 365 Berlinetta.

    Damian's comment of "I'm not sure if I want one" raises an interesting question for this series.
    As he drives a variety of models from throughout the model years which ones WILL he want? And thus, how will we see a change in the garage as the series evolves?
    This will be an interesting journey for sure. Will he bump in to a model that he feels he just has to buy? Maybe the exact car that he reviews?
    Thanks for the efforts! Excited to see how this goes.
    Cheers from the USA!

    I LOVE the idea of this series. Thanks so much! The modern supercars are great, but I prefer the classics and I can't wait to see what you get yourself into. You're cxertainly off to a wonderful start. The Daytona is one of the greatest Ferraris ever made and to have an open top...aaah, bliss!

    My dream car is a 365 GTB/4, they are so iconic and i much prefer the beautiful teardrop shape of the hard top.

    Nick Mason has had electric power-steering fitted to his Daytona 365 Competition. Power steering retro fitted is a common-sense improvement that adds to the drive-ability. It only comes in at low speeds.
    I’ve had a quote on the same system for my all manual 1988 Mondial 3.2. I’m going for it on my 1982 Saab 99 first at £1,000 it’s an ok price. Each car is quoted relative to difficulty of access to the steering column.

    @byronmills5952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A discreet power steering conversion makes an absolute world of difference to the general drivability and low speed enjoyment of these. They really are a car that appreciates being taken by the scruff of the neck - thats when a 365 really starts to come alive. Great video! Very much looking forward to the rest of the series 👍👍.

    Fab vid thanks. For me the roof of the hardtop Daytona is it's main design coup de grace with those thin a and b pillars and that massive rear window and raised rear 3/4 rear side window
    Imho the best Ferrari silhouette ever made as well as the F40 and 250 lusso. Cheers again.

    I had a Red MR2 that I thought was a Ferrari.

    • @noelht1
      @noelht1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Back in the 80s I had a car magazine that compared the MR2 original model against the 308GT4 Dino. My uncle had a 308GT4 so the article was interesting to me. The summary of the article ended with saying the greatest pleasure of driving the MR2 was listening to the Ferrari overtake you. Interestingly enough my same Uncle now has a later model MR2 because it reminds him of his Ferrari. Both great cars in their own way Both mid engine, both handle well, and the thing is now the later model MR2 would probably outperform the older Ferrari

    Who in their right mind would chop up such a beautiful vehicle? The coupe looks 10 times better (IMO) nothing beats the sound of that columbo V12

      The price difference between a coupe and a genuine factory convertible is massive. GTS/4 (genuine) have been going for $2M to $2.6M compared to around $0.5M for a GTB/4.

    Fab . I remember as a teenager looking at one of the 7 original rhd Spiders, in Blue Dino Metallizzato with Chrome Borrani wheels with a sticker price of £1,000,000 being sold at Modena. A few years later I was visiting Autokraft and Brian Angliss was converting a couple 365 GTB/4 into Spiders. Truly magical cars.

    Yes I love that episode also...but The Cannonball Run started me lusting after V12's back in 1976, but I was a follower of Maranello's F1 and of course The Persuaders in 1971 watching Tony Curtis drive a Red Coupé.
    Damien, I have been looking forward to seeing you test a 275 GTB/4, a 250 California and after missing the chance of getting a photo with DJ Chris Evans back the in 2009/10 at Maranello Egham...so I also hope you test a 288 GTO like Niki Lauda's.
    Super video! I recall a 250 pontooned Ferrari going down Marylebone High St back in 1988, when I was working in Sketchley's made the whole front of the shop vibrate as it went past!

    lovely Daytona Ferrari inside and out but Paul Frere (LEmans winner in A Ferrari 250TR) tested it in ITaly on launch for road and track and it weighed with only 20 litres of fuel in the tank at 1550kg which makes sense. Also it should really have the Ansa exhaust system and open trumpet carburettors because the sound is too subdued and not really as it should be. The car should have as Paul Frere pointed out and as it was in the similar real 365 GTS/4 spyder in the movie "the gumball rally", an unmistaken rumble and in the film the cars sound is simply glorious with a rich vibrating echo and the best sound of any ferrari of the period and for me also since then.

    As a Berlinetta owner with 20,000 miles personally driven and counting behind the wheel and my late father also having owned a Spyder conversion, the Berlinetta is a much more dynamic car to drive. It also the more beautiful car in my opinion. With a power steering conversion the car is also better to drive at lower speeds although it does make the steering light at speeds above the UK limit. Borrani wheels as fitted to the the car in the video were always the option choice and the Cromodora 5 spokes the standard wheel. You see more Daytona's with them today as unlike the 5 spoke the Borranis are still made today.
