I feel like the biggest difference between American cartoons and Japanese anime is that in Japan they’ve fully realized the true potential of animation. Over here cartoons are still generally considered to be for kids and even the adult swim shows are basically all sitcoms but over there they have so much variety for any genre at any age.
@@katejade3473 SAO openings are basically one person/singer, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you like her! (Like we both do) -Edit- So turns out after looking them up for the song names thats not really true, but the singers do sound similar guess they wanted to keep the same "feel". The War of Underworld season's openings in particular are top notch but yeah they are all good.
@@Mochimatchamocha I totally forgot about To Your Eternity myself, because its more recent & hasn't had as much time to worm its way into my brain I guess? But I bet he would like it.
Yeah.. because he's a fraud who fully knows the context of all of these and fakes it being his "first time" so he can pretend to be incredibly perceptive.

I've been watching your channel for a few months now, and I was so surprised and happy to see you react to anime songs👀 I'm looking forward to watching more of your reaction to anime openings! @@theplotarmoredtitan5781 I watched last years most because is a classic, even when I wasn't into anime I heard about it so I checked out, but in the end I really liked, is a nice story with interesting unique characters
Wait, so he starts with Demon slayer's opening as his first anime opening ever? That's like instead of having a beer as your first drink, you chug the tequila xD
Proof that anime isn’t “just cartoons” a lot of them are better than any live action shows. Plus there are so many genres. Ranging from any you can imagine. Between kids and adults. And I’ve seen a lot where the opening alone made me watch them. And no… I don’t mean “that” kind of adult genre.
If you get tired of Unravel after playing too much, I listened to other songs by toru kitajima and now every time I listen to any of the songs is just an experience in itself
@@elith6930 I did that when the song first came out and I was a 15 year old idiot Got over it fine after a while, and yes the acoustic version is amazing
the first opening to "fullmetal alchemist : brotherhood" definetly has to be one of my favorite of all time i would also recommend the second opening of "attack on titan" for a badass feeling as well as the opening for "violet evergarden" for a more emotional one
Honestly, such amazing assortment of openings you've gathered. Some of the best of all time. Perfect reaction too. You gave enough attention to both the visuals and music and were very accepting to a medium you haven't ever consumed. Here are some iconic recommendations based on your taste: Attack on Titan OP 1 (and 2 & 3 if you have the time) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood OP 1 (Also probably the first anime you should watch) Naruto Shippuden OP 16 (and OP 6 ) Black Clover OP 3 (and 10) Mob Psycho 100 OP 1 (and 2) Cowboy Bebop OP The Promised Neverland OP 1 Fire Force OP 1 Dr. Stone OP 1 Dororo OP 1 Death Parade OP Noragami Aragoto OP Kokkoku OP Flashback Kiznaiver OP Neon Genesis Evangelion OP Your Lie in April OP 1 (Don't know if the last 2 are your taste, but they're fan favorites... as well as mine) ... and obviously a ton more.
I'm going to go with all of these, and add: Blood+ opening 1 and 2 D.gray-man opening 3 And Inuyasha opening 1 Also going to throw out there that some animes have amazing ending songs or insert songs too.
These are also some good ones: Cardcaptor Sakura OP 1 Pretty Boy Detective Club OP Given OP (or just any song from Given) Black Butler OP 1 Dr. Stone (ik u said this one but imma add on) OP 3 Ouran High School Host Club OP Kakegururi OP 1 (and 2) Banana Fish Op 1 (and 2) Jujustu Kaisen OP 2 Death Note OP 1 Bungo Stray Dogs OP 1 (and 2) Hunter x Hunter OP Sk8 The Infinity OP Wonder Egg Priority OP Tokyo Revengers OP Fruits Basket OP 2 Toilet Bound Hanako-kun OP Nana OP 1 Haikyuu! OP 1 (and 4&5&6) Yuri! on Ice OP and obviously theres still more but those r some of my faves that I don't think have been mentioned yet
"Whatever studio created this, these visuals are God Tier." Yes, "Ufotable" is in fact a God-tier studio that does a fantastic job of blending 2D and 3D animation, with shows like the "Fate" series and the one shown here (Demon Slayer). It's exactly as it sounds, it's about slaying Demons, it's gory, it's an awesome and beautifully animated show in general, but especially as a beginner anime because its not very complex.
The Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure openings are amazing, the show is also littered with music references, a lot of the characters or named after classic rock bands or albums or songs so it’s really fun to watch out for that stuff.
Anime openings, especially in shonen, tend to be very energetic and catchy in order to entice viewers. Especially the latest ones. They've perfected the key to make them work.
I HIGHLY recommend checking out the first Soul Eater opening- gorgeous animation and a banger of a song. D.Gray-Man's first and second openings are a favorite of mine as well. Ouran Highschool Host Club is a cheesy comedy that has a fun and classic opening as well.
@@allen-nyuu5081 Oh yeah, D.gray-Man is def one of my favorites- my first anime obsession actually I would've recommended the 3rd opening too but... too many visual spoilers than i'd like y'know
Reaction Timestamps and the OPs (For the people who's looking for one specific opening like I was): 0:58 - Gurenge (From Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer Season 1) 4:08 - Unravel (From Tokyo Ghoul) 8:00 - ODD FUTURE (From Boku No Hero Academia/My Hero Academy Season 3) 11:26 - Kaikai Kittan (From Jujutsu Kaisen) 14:58 - Moonlight Densetsu(From Sailor Moon) 18:16 - Nicholas slowly falling into anime hell (From Nicholas Light TV)
If there is such a thing as "2nd hand happiness" then i must be feeling it for u dude, what i would give to hear these songs for the first time, not that hearing them for the billioth time isnt orgasm inducing, but that first time is just😍😍😍
It's how fast i clicked 😭 ain't even finished watching it but you should definitely listen to more, there are some true gems out there. Listen to endings too!!
I'm surprised no one's talking about the opening song of given. This song is energetic but so painful when you're aware of what the lyrics mean. I highly recommend that you react to the full song
As a longtime anime fan, it's awesome to see someone with a platform like yours doing reactions like this because people don't realize sometimes how incredible the music and animation in anime really is! You picked some fantastic ones to start with! Thank you for such a great video!
I feel lime while yes shows like drbz and naruto op bleach were great gates ways in the past there really not good for the new gen people with the better visuals to use those shows to start people on
When he admitted himself he thought weebs were lame but immediately fell in love with anime just speaks for itself :) we got another on boat my fellow jeagarists!!
@@roguedragoon9212 the actual definition of weeb is really cringy tbh. If I remember correctly, it's the anime fans that are so hardcore they become full-on shut-ins that quite literally believe they're anime characters themselves. We normally refer to each other as weebs as a joke, but the actual definition is really bad.
@@poppersperi842 I looked it up, and the definition of weeb is literally someone so obsessed with anime that they want to adopt the anime and japanese culture into their own life, often thinking it's superior to everything else.
90's opening and ending themes were iconic and uniquely composed for each show. Sailor Moon, DBZ, Evangelion, Escaflowne, The Slayers, Rurouni Kenshin, Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam Wing (TWO-MIX ruled)...the list goes on. But any anime fan of that decade can often sing those themes on a dime.
Gundam Wing and RuroKen are stuck in my head like you wouldn't believe..I started anime pretty early but it was all the stuff that was changed for US TV at first..Voltron was where it started for me back in the early 90's, I remember owning a VHS for Street Sharks and Sailor Moon being an ad that played before the actual show. Cartoon Network went a long way to making Anime more popular in the west for sure but it was still there and hidden around video stores if you looked around..anime cons had fan subs I'm pretty sure..I didn't hit my first anime con until the mid 2000s. I'm STILL mad as hell I can't get Zoids with Bit Cloud in Japanese audio..every DVD in the west is ALL English..
I wish he reacted to Saint Seiya opening, it's one of the best opening from the 80s. Here in Brazil people know Saint Seiya almost as much as Dragon Ball's openings
You should watch demon slayer IMMEDIATELY the storyline, the animation, the characters Everything IS AMAZING You should also react to all attack on titan openings and watch the show if you haven't yet
unravel really is one of the most genius anime openings ever. i highly recommend watching tokyo ghoul (especially the 1st season), just for the season finale, where the song is beautifully incorporated into the final scenes.
But, if you'd rather have a darker, less shounen (childish) touch and a cannon story (since they changed the ending to something impossible to happen) read the manga instead. Mangas are easier to approach when you don't like anime. I watch anime a lot but I don't like how they adapted TG.
My son recently got me into Anime with Attack on Titan and Tokyo Ghoul. Would love to see you react to Attack on Titan - the theme songs for that are incredible.
Unravel is a masterpiece. You enjoy it even if you don't know what it's saying or what Tokyo Ghoul is about, and when you know the English lyrics and have seen the anime, you get attached to the song. Same with Katharsis, to a smaller extent. Now he's got me rehooked on the Jonathan Young Cover of Tokyo Ghoul.
i agree about one enjoying unravel even without knowing the plot of the anime, but i also believe that knowing the story adds like 293047170729x more emotion and feelings to the opening so it’s even better if you know it 😩💔
If you end up watching Jujutsu Kaisen, I recommend paying attention to every little detail of the opening because things change/are added as the season progresses. Really cool to catch those details!
Hearing Sailor Moon's theme song just made me feel so incredibly warm! It's still one of my favorite anime after all these years. Oh fun fact, idk if you know Hunter X Hunter but the creator of that anime and the creator of Sailor Moon are married!
Love how you watched a bunch of the most dramatic, emotional, dark and hype inducing OPs out there.... and then ended with Sailor Moon. Don't get me wrong, the Eng ver still randomly pops into my head even to this day, but it's such a 180 from what you started with 🤣
Sailor Moon has the same theme song for the first four seasons, but the animation is switched up a few times each season as characters are added and the story changes. The final sequences for Season 1 and Season 3 are my faves. The imagery is just insane.
I'm surprised DeathNote wasn't on the list. both opening and ending songs were amaaazing. I hope you check it out. YuYu Hakusho is also an oldie but goodie. Dubbed or subbed version doesn't matter. It always hits the nostalgia bone. Half the reason i got into anime is because i stumbled on the intro to Inuyasha i think it was, and the music reeled me in.
Well he's seen Death Note before and One Punch Man and Naruto. He's BSing about never seen anime before. He's literally talked about it in other videos.
Sailor moon was my obsession as a kid and I still love it to pieces. The opening is bomb in English but INCREDIBLE in Japanese. All the seasons’ have different animations - and the final season has the Sailor Star song which is CHEFS KISS.
I love the original Japanese opening credits, and I know the Dic Dub is widely considered to be garbage, but the music they created for the Dic Dub in general was also **chef's kiss** Especially the special songs. I still sing My Only Love, She's Got the Power, Rainy Day Man, Only a Memory away (the broadcast version, not the album version), and especially Power of Love (which may have actually been CloverWi, now that I think about it).
@@bluelagoon1980 I agree with my whole heart. I love all of the Japanese music for the show. But the dub had some seriously good music. Even if their censoring and writing were not up to par. I still bop along with the music for both versions. :)
@@bluelagoon1980 I freaking love The Power of Love song from the Dic Dub. Also I got to meet the singing voice of Sailor Moon from the 90’s. It was so awesome to see her. In Nashville they were playing the Sailor Moon live action theatre production. And she came out before it came on the movie theater and she was singing the Power of Love song and I kid you not my inner kid was bouncing up and down like a kid on Christmas morning. So I started to sing along. Everyone in the movie theater started to sing as well. It was the best experience ever on that day.
I gotta put in a vote to have you check out the "Rise of the Shield Hero", "Yuri On Ice" and "Goblin Slayer", openings, if not the shows themselves. Three of my favorite openings of all time.
I freaking love all of those openings. My favorite from these HAS to be Rising of the Shield Hero, and the anime is so good. I expected less since it was in the Isakei (idk if I spelled that right) Genre, but it was amazing.
@@nicoleruiz4975 Same here: that ending sequence showing Raphtilia's growth through the season always hits me in the feels. She's one of my all-time favorite characters. On a side note in case you didn't already pick up on it; watch "Yuri"'s episode 1 opening then compare it to the last episode's opening. Then prepare to have your mind blown over the fact that all the additions were inserted gradually episode by episode over the whole season. Brilliant!

the Evangelion "cruel angel's thesis" is great to listen to. would recommend. edit: the op is short but good, also the full length version is very good two more notes I guess it is an oldy but a classic. Also that Demon Slayer (of the first op you watched) is a great one for people just getting into anime. other than that thank you for a good video :)
Your honest reactions really put a smile on my face. I watched anime my whole life, and you know, anime is looked at like a lame thing. But your reactions and opinions really makes me glad And yes, Demon slayer is good anime, Def good for people who have never watch either. And Tokyo ghoul is the emo song of anime
I highly recommend you watch Violet Evergarden! People judge it cause its a slower anime and call it boring, but its super emotional. The animation, music, and story are amazing and beautiful. It's probs my favorite anime.
I watched this anime and no it’s really boring honestly …the animation is indeed breathtaking but the thing is yall call any anime with good animation top tier nowadays
@@arifarrafi3302 I mean the best way to know what you're gonna like is by exploring diff genres. That doesn't just apply to anime, that applies to any kind of media. Same way AOT is a good way to start exploring more action-y animes and what they can do with the concept.
I would love to see you react to any anime’s, especially older ones. If you start to watch anime, you might wanna look up Japanese rock, pop, and vocaloid music because it is the staple of Japanese culture. Welcome Nicholas, to the Japanese Anime Rabbit hole
It's damn interesting that even a person who has never watched anime notices how Jujutsu Kaisen and Kimetsu no Yaiba stand out in terms of visuals from others. After all, these are really two anime that literally set a new bar for the visual. Showing how you can make animation really cool.
Just found you, and I love how you analyze these based on feeling and sound. For an older emotional piece I would recommend “Regret” GACKT and Kami duet. These artists were huge in the 90s and early 2000s, and the power of this song is amazing.
First one. “Gurenge” by LiSA. Amazing Japanese solo artist. She did a first take of this song on the “First Take” channel. She’s such an amazing singer.
My cheeks hurt from smiling when it comes to Sailor Moon op theme. That was my exact reaction when I first heard it when I was a little kid. The haunted bell ringing used to shake me to the bone lol! Now listening it back almost brings me to tears, oh the nostalgia!
Sailor moon is classic from the 90s. My literal childhood. They also did Sailor Moon Crystal which the animation style is different and it’s more based on the manga but both are amazing. And the characters are badass and adorable. lol.
i laugh and smile everytime i see someone hearing tokyo ghoul's unravel for the first time. expecting to see that similar emotion and the satisfaction it gives em every single time. never fails arguably, but easily one of the best anime openings ever made.

Anime is legit one of the most expressive forms of art and entertainment. You can quite literally create things that don't exist in the natural world. Its a beautiful thing.

I think you would like Demon Slayer a lot. And the answer to your question "Is the show anything like that?" is yes. The show has incredible visuals, in fact some of the best there is. Episode 19 blew up the entire internet when it first came out, because of the astounding visuals and the amazing fight scene.

I'm so glad you realised how haunting Sailor Moon can be just by the first opening. Most people are tricked by the colourful visuals Sailor Moon offers, but I swear it was one of the most traumatic and most iconic anime I've ever seen in my life. That opening really does pass both the light and dark sides of Sailor Moon with perfection. And it was one of the 90s openings to set standards.
Dude...that episode when (spoilers) Usagi has to watch all her friends die for her, falls into a depression, and then is encouraged to get back into the fight by the spirits of her friends while the "Heart Moving" theme plays in the background absolutely FLOORED me. And I'm a 21-year-old dude! The scene in the next episode when Mamoru dies in Usagi's arms and she says she can't kiss him because her friends never got to kiss the people they loved was heartbreaking too. Just overall, the show does an amazing job balancing silly, comedic moments with serious moments. For example, Usagi struggling to cope with the trauma of upholding the mantle of Sailor Moon or Usagi falling into a depression after Mamoru is corrupted by Beryl. Anyway, I totally agree with you. I've only seen the first season so far, but my expectations were already blown away by how emotionally complex the show has been.
@@gauravbasnet6887 in the manga it's much worse, in the final arc all the sailor became her enemies and she has to kill them or she would be killed by them
@@luisfillipebeserra2108 I LOVE the Stars arc of the manga! I love how Usagi’s faith in her mission is tested to its breaking point. All the sailor senshi die and Usagi is left wondering whether it’s even worth it to fight anymore. She has an AMAZING monologue near the end of this arc, where she talks about how she never fought to save the galaxy in the past, but it was actually all about saving her friends. With them gone, what’s the point in fighting anymore? It’s great. I read the manga before starting the show, but I heard that the story was toned down in the show for kids so I was NOT expecting how traumatic that season 1 finale turned out to be haha; that’s why I was so surprised by the show (in a good way). I think the show and manga are both amazing in their own ways and I love them both :) Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite manga arcs :)
@@annaairahala9462 To be fair, they’re talking about the original manga, which is a shoujo targeted towards the teenage female demographic. The 90s anime is targeted towards a wider age range. This anime is what my first comment was about. The original American dub for Sailor Moon actually censored A LOT of the original Japanese anime because they thought the kids wouldn’t be able to handle Usagi’s breakdown after her friends died. But honestly, that censorship completely ruined the story and butchered all the emotion in the season 1 finale. Thankfully, a new dub came out a couple years ago that doesn’t censor any of the original Japanese show. It isn’t anything graphic and I believe it’s good for kids to learn and understand emotions and the meaning of death, so the original Japanese show is completely fine for kids in my eyes. EDIT: Besides, all the sailor senshi come back to life at the end of season 1 anyway, so it’s not a big deal.
You can see the wonder and awe when he first reacts the Unravel. As soon as opening goes from black and white to colour you can see how his perspective of anime changed in that very moment.
As an anime fan who got this in his recommended on TH-cam its so awesome to see someone open up to just check out something from anime and find so much love and passion in such a small aspect of it as the opening. Anime openings go so fucking hard and I super recommend every single show you saws intros.
I can't believe how far you've come it brings a tear to my eye seeing you grow from the start and how you've grown in terms of content recently and i will enjoy watching you grow even more can't wait for the wedding all love to you and live
Demon Slayer is one of the most beautifully visual anime while being some of the best writing with amazing music in both openings and endings (in my opinion). Jujutsu Kaisen was so incredibly written and different from a lot of anime I've seen. Attack on Titan is amazing as well! The openings My War and The Rumbling are my favorites!
"Some of the best writing" isn't eventually true as DS is an anime with popular shounen tropes so it isnt actually unique, but yeah, different tastes, different opinions
I agree with a lot of statements you said for demons slayer but no, just no. The writing is not some of the best writing, not even close, still a great show but the writing is not one of the best out there.
In case no one told you anything about it, the "Sailor Moon" manga started in the early 90s and the anime came out shortly after. And there is so much 90s in it, it is... surreal. The write made four official arcs ("Sailor Moon", "Sailor Moon R", "Sailor Moon S" and "Sailor Stars"). The anime threw in a short arc in between the base series and "R", and another season "Super S" between "S" and "Stars". In the mid 10s, a new anime called "Sailor Moon Crystal" was released that followed the manga much more closely than the original series did. I recommend ALL of it. This was my gateway drug into anime. Also, you need to check out the opening track for "Slayers", "Gate", and the first season of "Ranma 1/2". My other recommendations are surely in some of the compilation videos you did, but I haven't gotten to yet. To be fair, if you can get your hands on those three anime, they are also on my most recommended watch list. "Slayers" and "Ranma 1/2" are from the late 90s and early 00s (Ranma was also written by the woman who wrote "Inu Yasha"). "Gate" is more recent. Finally, you need to check out the anime "Food Wars." It is hilarious. You talk about food looking good in animation? You haven't seen anything until you watch that one. There are five seasons. Enjoy.
After so many years I still strongly believe that Tokyo Ghoul’s OP 1 is arguably the best opening of all! Not only r all openings amazing (ok the 2nd OP took some time to grow on me) even the ending themes r absolutely amazing & fit the show sooo well!
Japanese music goes much beyond anime opening I would recommend Kenshi Yonezu, YOASOBI, Yorushika, and King Gnu They are all pretty good and popular yet unique artists React to them please
You've genuinely reignited my passion for anime. By breaking me of my jaded 'take it for granted' attitude for beautiful artistic ideas just because I've seen something similar. The first time I saw the Jujitsu Kaisen intro I thought, "well whatever I've seen better." But seeing you genuinely taken aback and in awe of the idea of a panda man feeling haunted by the notion of accepting he's not a normal panda, or glasses that move over the viewers eyes showing a Japanese monster like a window into a sub-reality, or the camera parallax of a panorama shot of a man in a mask in the atmospheric light of a city at night. It all suddenly clicked again like when I first started watching anime. That all these wacky or extremely artistically indulgent moment are beautiful, and aren't just a rehash of previous ideas, but a window into the creative minds and artistic mastery of their passionate creators. I watched you play it back and point these things out, and got chills remembering how I used to feel about anime, how it used to excite and surprise me. All that wonder and amazement was given back to me today, at least for a moment. I truly thank you for helping me remember what it feels like to love anime. Thank you for sharing your genuine thoughts, and being so innocently amazed, not to sound awkward, but it was honestly so refreshing it changed the way I thought, and its worth mentioning. I wish you the best of luck and will definitely highly recommend this video to my friends.
As someone who has loved Sailor Moon since I was a child, seeing you notice the dark the tone op starts with made me super happy. Sailor Moon's manga was originally pretty dark, and when it got brought to anime the tone was a bit conflicting sometimes because the filler episodes that were added to bump up the episode count were VERY lighthearted compared to the manga storyline. Those fillers got the older anime a reputation as a comedy-- but when you cut the filler episodes the main story fit the Mangas intended vibes very well. Most people assume that Sailor Moon is a typical light hearted Magical Girl anime... and it can be at times..... but, well, how often members of the actual main cast die and get resurrected should be a good example of how deceptive this anime is to anyone that has never watched it/read the manga.... I'm glad you noticed how some of the OP animation gave a darker vibe even as the music seemed light hearted!
Right?? I remember basically growing up on Classic Sailor Moon in the 1990s... but back then in English, for a few years all that was available "officially ", was the original English dub by Dic... ...which when I got SLIGHTLY older and gained access to Early Internet I found out had, in order to get the magic number of 65 episodes for syndication, cut the series off in the middle of the second series (equivalent to American "seasons", though in the case of Sailor Moon it was much longer than standard TV seasons as they were originally meant to air each week for most of a year BUT ANYWAY), skipped several whole ass episodes, and merged what WAS the original 2-episode finale of series one, into one much shorter episode. This was while of course changing much of both the visuals and aspects of the scripts. Partly to compensate for the differences between Japanese and American censors (sometimes removing aspects of the original visuals that were a little too "sexy" for American tastes, or in the case of the HEAVILY trimmed battles in the arctic, probably for violence... but most infamously, swapping the entire gender of the villain Jadeite, since anime!Jadeite was in a relationship with another, male, general, and this was... you know, 1990s kids TV in the USA). But also, as was apparently standard practice at the time, to try and straight up pretend it wasn't Japanese (things like swapping what side of the road bases drove on, changing Japanese names and cultural references to western ones, etc). The latter is kind of in hindsight hilarious that they even tried, considering Sailor Mars is LITERALLY A SHRINE MAIDEN AT A SHINTO SHRINE, which even the dub didnt do much to obscure, and everybody regardless of the school they go to is wearing those now iconic Sailor style uniforms ( like... why bother hiding the foreign setting?? He Man or Thundercats got away with being in exotic settings that were like outright fantasy realm alternate planets, but somehow Japan is too exotic?? Wtf DiC!) ...okay yes, I have Feelings about Sailor Moon. My (admittedly buried) point is: I grew up intitially watching the heavily censored, sanitized, Americanized early dubs... and even as a kid I knew despite the comedic elements, it had an underlying story and character development that was pretty moving. Then as a teen who thought anime was Super Cool, I found out my nostalgic childhood favorite HAD been heavily censored, and wanted to seesome of what I missed out on.. This was back before TH-cam was a thing and internet speeds were usually measured in kilobyte, so I went out of my way via tape trading with other anime nerds to get one or two VHS tapes with fan-subtitled copies of all the series one episodes that had been completely cut from the original DiC release as well as the uncut, uncensored 2-part finale. The episode about Sailor venus's backstory before she met the others was moving as heck - so much loss!! So much of her opportunity for a normal, happy life sacrificed!! - but the real surprise was the aforementioned 2-part finale. I watched that sucker on a like 3rd or 4th generation VHS with tiny subtitles alone on a small TV...and friends, that finale fucking WRECKED 13 ir 14 yo me in the way no other media had done up to that point. This is not a hyperbole. Even though I had seen some variant of the episode and knew going in that some of the characters would die, even though I had known some material regarding the death scenes had been censored and cut from the American release so I knew to expect like, a bit more violence, and even though I LITERALLY KNEW the characters that died would get "reborn"/resurrected in the story arc right after it, which you would think would soften the blows... absolutely fucking nothing prepared barely-pubescent me for how GUTWRENCHng those two episodes would end up being. The characters go through SO MUCH, and their friends have to see SO. MUCH. horrible stuff happen to each other as they try their damnedest to protect their leader long enough to win the war....a leader who was!!! Just a sweet, bumbling kid!!! She likes comic books and sweets and arcade games, and she daydreams, and she struggles in school, and her little brother is a brat who loves to annoy her and her and parents are loving but don't understand her, and she!! Never asked for this!! She never wanted to fight!! She never asked to fight a guerilla war against life-sucking monsters, let alone have to lead her friends!?!? to their deaths!?!?!? And yet this poor girl watches ALL of what have become her best friends, die horribly, in order to protect her, so that she can protect the world. All because of shit that went down thousands of years ago, in a lifetime she can't even really remember fully, even with the help of magic. All because she's the reincarnation of a specific princess, who got caught up in literally ancient political strife, literally none of which was in her control. But she's the only one who can wield the thing that let's her put an end to that war. She's the only one who can save all those other perfectly normal, unsuspecting people that she knows. And she has to do it despite literally JUST having watched several of her closest friends just... die, horribly, one by one. She's 14. FOURTEEN. She would love nothing more than to be at home in her cozy bed, eating junk food and reading comics, and only stressing out over whether she failed thar most recent math test or not. But she can't. Because fate, and Beryl, will not let her have that. So she does it - giving her own life in the process. Because she knows she HAS to. Because she KNOWS she has to. Because she loves people, loves the WORLD, far too much to let them die without a fight. (Even more heartbreaking when you realize: she had no way of knowing for sure they'd be resurrected or reincarnated after and even when they were, they had all briefly forgotten about all that happened... only for another threat to come roaring in and rip away their normal teenage lives, AGAIN.) So, yeah. I am utterly unshamed to admit that the first time I EVER started to cry over a piece of media? Was that 2-part, uncensored, fansubbed VHS copy of the finale of Sailor Moon Classic, series 1. I'm equally unashamed to admit I'm getting choked up just remembering it, because time has not actually dulled the overall impact of the story - if anything, the older I get, the more obviously horrifying it is that these really were KIDS, who had a significant part of their normal lives irrevocably taken from them, who had genuinely traumatic things happen to them basically constantly (Sailor Moon herself doesn't even turn 15 until partway through SERIES 3!). But they put up with it, fought through it, made it through it all without giving up, because they had each other, and because they had this unshakable conviction that, overall, humanity was worth saving. Bro, I'm crying 😭 it's amazing how impactful it still was, despite all the silly or cheesy bits. The characters and even messages (of love, of compassion, of empathy; of the genuine power of friendship and support, of second chances, and of fighting to protect the things you love without just giving in to the blind Impulse for vengeance)...they are still compelling to me, as a grown ass woman. Is it, especially the old anime, often cheesy, silly, and a bit repetitive in places? Yes. But bro. It's also... so much more. And I'm so happy this, even in just some small way, comes across in the opening music.
Watching reactions to anime openings and amv's by people who have never seen anime brings me so much joy. To see the excitement in other people is amazing.
yeah, Demon Slayer (first show) is one of the best anime of the recent years. it's got a perfect blend of drama, action, comedy, horror, and everything in between. it's a masterpiece, and looks just as good as the opening pretty much the entire time. you could pause anywhere and you'd have a ready-made painting to hang on your wall lmao.
Yesss.. Demon slayer and attack on titan are my favourite animes ever. But I have this special connected with demon slayer characters.. like I love inosuke so much and tanjiro and nezukos sibling bond.. So I prefer demon slayer over attack on titan.. although I know attack on titan is a better masterpiece in terms of plot than demon slayer. Currently watching season 2 and it's so good. The animation is my favourite thing EVER..

I feel like the biggest difference between American cartoons and Japanese anime is that in Japan they’ve fully realized the true potential of animation. Over here cartoons are still generally considered to be for kids and even the adult swim shows are basically all sitcoms but over there they have so much variety for any genre at any age.
I think arcane is going to change that. More studios are going to invest in that type of content, seeing the success of the series.

Hearing Sailor Moon's theme song just made me feel so incredibly warm! It's still one of my favorite anime after all these years. Oh fun fact, idk if you know Hunter X Hunter but the creator of that anime and the creator of Sailor Moon are married!

Sailor moon was my obsession as a kid and I still love it to pieces. The opening is bomb in English but INCREDIBLE in Japanese. All the seasons’ have different animations - and the final season has the Sailor Star song which is CHEFS KISS.
I love the original Japanese opening credits, and I know the Dic Dub is widely considered to be garbage, but the music they created for the Dic Dub in general was also **chef's kiss**
Especially the special songs.

Dude...that episode when (spoilers)
Usagi has to watch all her friends die for her, falls into a depression, and then is encouraged to get back into the fight by the spirits of her friends while the "Heart Moving" theme plays in the background absolutely FLOORED me.

After all those years and million openings , Sailor Moon's opening is still one of the best ever. Period.

Or yu yu hakusho
The music isn't that lighthearted though... The piano (an organ, i think) gives a little like dracula theme vibes...
As a kid I never knew how dark SM is until I found the uncensored versions online.
Huh, it sounds a lot like Yugioh in that regard.
Wtf DiC!)
...okay yes, I have Feelings about Sailor Moon. My (admittedly buried) point is:
I grew up intitially watching the heavily censored, sanitized, Americanized early dubs... and even as a kid I knew despite the comedic elements, it had an underlying story and character development that was pretty moving.
(Even more heartbreaking when you realize: she had no way of knowing for sure they'd be resurrected or reincarnated after and even when they were, they had all briefly forgotten about all that happened... only for another threat to come roaring in and rip away their normal teenage lives, AGAIN.)
So, yeah.
And I'm so happy this, even in just some small way, comes across in the opening music.
you gotta listen to the german intro. its phenomenal
This guy's intuition when it comes to character reading from just a mere glance at the intro is superhuman
Watching reactions to anime openings and amv's by people who have never seen anime brings me so much joy. To see the excitement in other people is amazing.
The first season of Tokyo Ghoul feels so nostalgic. A reaction would be nice 🙂
No way, Kurisu pfp
yeah, Demon Slayer (first show) is one of the best anime of the recent years. it's got a perfect blend of drama, action, comedy, horror, and everything in between. it's a masterpiece, and looks just as good as the opening pretty much the entire time. you could pause anywhere and you'd have a ready-made painting to hang on your wall lmao.
@@DazzlingPotatoes I'm actually a fan of Zenitsu. He's probably one of the best depictions of depression/self-loathing/chronic anxiety out there. My mom hates screaming, so she rolls her eyes and sighs when he shows up on screen lol
@@FractalParadox my mum hates it too! I convinced her to watch demon slayer with me and she watched it without a break. It was going past 12am.. and I tried to get her off it but she wouldn't budge lmaoo.. probably because we were on episode 20 😂 She loves demon slayer like me
