If you consider buying this camera mind one thing - check your camera after purchase. Geared lenses are prone to misalign. At least I bought faulty one as it occured after first roll, because single lens gears were broken and they terribly misaligned. Quick way to check it is to open the back of camera to load film, tape tracing paper or something semi transparent paper over the back where your 120 film should be. Do it firmly to be evenly stretched. Set your lens to infinity, aim for buildings, trees, something with sharp edges. Then set your time to B, fire the shutter (if you have shutter release cable then block it) and then you can check if image on tracing paper is sharp, you can do that with maginifying glass or other lens which will behave as macro. That way helped me to realign my lenses and shoot properly next roll of film. Due to that damage I sold it for parts, but reconsidering to buy another one, because despite of slow lenses it's small, cheap, happy little throw-to-backpack medium format camera for travels. I am fool for swirly bokeh and boy, that lens can twist your backgrounds!
Wow those are some nice photos with this camera. Growing up in the USSR, my friend had one. Well, his dad… I just bought 2 of them. Can’t wait to get them and have some fun. Thanks for the video
Best intro video of this camera on YT and those photos... Man, you are extremely talented and someone who knows what he’s doing with the camera. :) +1 sub, have a great day!
Very nice shots!!! A friend gave me to try his late uncle's Lubitel 166U some weeks ago, cause he is not into film and i can't wait to see the how the shots will turn out!
I have a different variant, called the 166 Universal, which accepts an adapter mask (available second hand) to shoot 6x4.5 which I'm yet to try out. Boy, it is a lot of fun to shoot :)
Lots of detail and punchy colours on some of those photos. Thanks for sharing. I've just put a roll of 120 in my 166U (first time in years, actually) and looking forward to seeing what I get from it.
Just bought a Lubitel 166 Moscow Olympics variant and its in transit from Latvia right now! I cant wait to shoot with it! I've only ever used a Holga and a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye in terms of medium format!
I have the Lubitel 2 the earlier model and love it. Tlrs are amazing. I have a 1957 Yashica Mat with a 75mm 3.5 Lumaxar lens which is very sharp. I used the Lubitel 2 last week with a black and white film and the results were great. I also have a Kiev 6c 6x6 slr with a 90mm 2.8 Vega lens which is the next step from the Lubitel. I still love the look and feel of the Lubitel 2. The lens is based on the Cooke triplet 75mm f4. 5. Zeiss made the Triotar 75mm f4. 5 based on the same design pre 2nd world war for the K4 Rolleicord.
Best video I’ve seen on this camera! Mine was a gift but I’m still not understanding how to take photos. I know I wine it till I see a number but what do I do after? Do I go till I see #1 (take phot) then wine it till I see #2 (take photo) ?
You produced some good shots there. Nice. You did not spend much description on the focusing system - which is indeed an odd ball, while you indulged in compositional divagation that are unrelated to the camera model. I just got a model today, which I decided to buy before stumbling here. The shutter must have not been operated in a long time since it is a bit 'stucky' under the 1/30... it has the tendency to remain open. But by operating it several times, eventually the oil started lubing the parts again, it seems. We'll see what I can do from here now. In general, with those interlocking lenses and with that viewfinder - with a condenser lens rather than a ground-glass screen, with only that small central spot ground for focusing, the overall feel is that of being even more spartan than my Weltaflex.
Hi. What is the music used when you are showing the photos you took? I know it is TH-cam free music but I've forgotten it's name. I'm sure it was something Garden. Thanks
Love the video and the photos you took! I actually have a question about the wheel on the right side. I was wondering how to set the ISO if that’s even possible
Thanks a lot ! That wheel is just a reminder of the ISO you are shooting, however the camera being ancient the iso only goes up to 32 or something like that so not that useful :)
The aperture in my lubitel (same model as yours), cannot go below 8, you know why this can be? I don´t know if this depend of some kind of other configuration

Really nice shots. Can't say that about all the photographers on YT, unfortunately. These were well composed and interesting. Subbed!
Thank you so much it means a lot ! :)
the sharpness was much better than I expected- nice work!

Amazing, very happy we could help you shot more film !

Sounds amazing and you can get more shots with 6X4.5 !
Having said that the lens isn't fast you have some cool night shots! The camera looks great. I will try to pick one up!

@@intuitiveshutter7271 I bought a roll of expired Fuji Velvia 100F to at my local camera store to try when it arrives!
@@StickPeopleAndPuff amazing, expired film is always exciting you never know what to expect :)
Very helpful video, and the shots are absolutely exquisite! Thank you
Thank you so much for the video and the shots ! :)
Hello, i also bought one and i was asking myself with what film were those pictures taken?
Those are beautiful photos!!

Definitely love TLRS ! This one and the Kiev are so great because of how affordable they are, but the yashica must feel amazing !

WOW what a great video. I just got my Lubitel after watching this video - great review and great pictures
You are going to love it, it's an amazing way to get into medium format, Thank for the feedback :)
Question, is there a light meter in this baby or did you use an app on your phone for the settings?
Nope, no light meter in there, but we use the LUX app on our phone when needed :)
Çok güzel bir video. Bu fotoğraf makinesini satın almak için bir adım daha attım bu video sayesinde. Teşekkürler. Türkiye'den selamlar ve sevgiler.
I’m the 500th sub!!
Yey ! Thanks a lot it;s appreciated !!
What kind of film did you load up the camera with in the samples?
Most of the shots in the samples are Portra 400 with a few exceptions that are Ektar 100 :)
What aperture and speed have you used for the night shots?
Thanks
a lot of these night shots are shot at f/8 or f/11 and the exposure can vary from 30seconds up to 2minutes :)
Insane video! Just bought this camera, what film would you recommend to use for it?
Portra 400 is usually a safe starting place :)
Really well put together video mama. Also those shots that you took were nice. What film did you use for this camera?
Thanks you so much ! The film used was the infamous Portra 400 for most shots, but some of the night photos were taken with Ektar 100.
Haha I jus realized I typed “mama” I meant man. Smh lol
Better review than of Kyle McDougall
Hey ! Didn't see he had a video for this one, thanks a lot for the feedback means a lot :)
The aperture in my lubitel (same model as yours), cannot go below 8, you know why this can be? I don´t know if this depend of some kind of other configuration
Is it because the aperture ring doesn't go down or is there no option for it to go under 8 ?
@@intuitiveshutter7271 the aperture ring can't reach the 22 value (for example) i just can reach to 8.
@@mamofns4642 THat's strange might be an issue with the ring itself :(
Thank you so mich 👍😊
Nice shots!
Which camera settings did you use to get these night shots? They are amazing!
For the night shots most of them are Ektar 100 :)
@@intuitiveshutter7271 thanks! What aperture and shutter speed did you use? just approximately

Micheal mando. You look like Micheal mando haha
It is basically a copy of a Ikoflex.
What film are you using?
Most of those shots were on Ektar 100 and Portra 400.
