This is something new I learnt today. I am a huge Canva fan..been using it for years. Your tips and tricks for using PP are quite amazing. I've begun to use PP again. Thank you. 😊🙏
OMG... I never know Canva+PowerPoint can be used like this! I just want to look for how to custom our frame size, but you give me beyond my expectation! Love this, will try right away ^ ^ Thank you so much!
In case this is helpful to anyone you can also apply elements of this technique in google slides if you don't have photoshop. I just used a GS frame on an image on an otherwise blank slide and then downloaded as a PDF and imported to Canva and it worked perfectly. My only issue now is I don't see how I can add this new style of frame to library, but I can at least copy and paste across projects.
Hi, where do you find an option to convert the image to a shape on Google slides? I've tried searching for it but there dosent seem to be such an option?
@PresentationProcess I forgot to come back here because I got so carried away lol. So it works great, it works on apps like pages and keynote aswell but the tools are in different areas. Thank you sooooo much for this!!
Unfortunately, as other viewers have also noted, the imported PDF in canva appears blank. The shape seems to be in the PDF and is seperately selectable, but pretty much unusable. Can anyonr guide and let us know what we're doing wrong?
Yes. I had the same problem. I forgot to insert a picture in the shape created in PPT. After selecting a picture or text fill, most of us forgot to use the picture source to insert the picture . After inserting a picture then we have to save it in pdf. I think this will solve the problem.
This video was amazing thank you so much, but unfortunately for some reason no matter what I do when I try to delete the picture it deletes the whole thing it is not turning into a frame
This doesn't work for me. When I import the PDF into Canva, click the image and press delete the whole image and shape deletes. Can anyone help please?
It works. Go to options and select detach image from frame and then delete the image after. If you just click delete before detaching the image the entire object will be deleted.
Question - this worked until I put it in Canva and the image (my logo) created 4 separate frames. How do I group the frame together so it be comes one shape?
FYI-- I just learned that Canva never recognizes a Square or Rectangle shape as a frame. So if you're creating a frame that's a square or rectangle, it won't work like it does for other shapes. Some tips--- 1) Make sure you fill the shape with a picture. Texture won't work (when you import to canva the shape will not appear). 2) Then, the workaround is-- when you create your shape in powerpoint, rotate it slightly. That's it! Then Canva will recognize it as a frame. The rest of the steps will work. I'll work on getting a tutorial of this up.
Man, you are SO HOT ! - Super truper usefull video, real trick. ( many other videos about this are bs, not showing a real solution ) Since I work with Illustrator, I created the shape in Ilustrator, by making a path, and some random image, and making converting the path and the image to a clipping path. Exported as PDF, imported in CANVA and VOILA !!! It works !!!
Is there an easy way to resposition a photo within a frame? It seems like Canva places the photo for you without any option of moving, cropping, zooming, etc.
double click on photo in the frame and it will open faded photo with it's bounds visible and then you can drag and resize photo and still remain in the frame. Click off when done and photo will be the way u want it withing the frame
After you filled the shape with a stock image @5:53, your shape changed to that image but on my computer after I filled the shape with a stock image, the shape just turn black nothing else there. Am I missing something ?? LOL I know for sure that I saved the original photo as SVG. HELP!
This was so helpful! I'm wondering if there is a way to take this a step further. I'm trying to color code different counties from an image of a map I have, so I have to separate the shapes in order to change the color of each county in Canva. Is that possible?
Great tutorial! Thank you!! I'm having one problem though. When I get to the point in PP where I add the image (in your case the watercolor over the female head silhouette) my background image is filling the entire square - not just the formatted shape. Any suggestions? I followed your video step by step multiple times, and I can't get the picture source to only fill the shape instead of the entire square of the image you're trying to turn into a frame. Any help is greatly appreciated !!
I'm trying this, but I don't think I have stock images with my Microsoft account. I can fill it with a different image I've downloaded, but the ratio is off (it squishes my photo). Then, when I try to upload the PDF, it fails in Canva. I tried selecting the option "Tile picture as texture" in PowerPoint, which seemed to correct the ratio, and that file uploaded into Canva! But... it uploaded as a blank shape without my photo. I can change the color, but I cannot fill it. I feel like I'm missing a step or a setting. Could you help me out?
I kept playing with it, and the fix for me (in case anyone else is having the same issue!) was to go into the "format picture" in PowerPoint and edit either the width or height so that the picture extended beyond the .svg shape. Once I saved and uploaded that file, the frame worked in Canva! This is SUCH a useful tip to know - thank you!
This is great! Is there a way to take a graphic and only make part of it a frame? For example, a face with sunglasses but only the sunglasses become the frame and the rest stays?
I followed this tutorial exactly and it did not work - after importing PDF back into Canva, it did not have the picture "layered" over a frame - it was the picture image only.
So this is really helpful, except I have one problem. I am trying to do a triangle shape, like bunting, so it points downwards. Every time I do it in powerpoint, when I put it into canva and drag the photo in, the photo is upsidedown! Have you any idea what I'm doing wrong?
@@23Frankly I figured out the problem. You need a vector element to make it work, and if you simply create a shape in PP or Word, the figure is not a vector. If you have another software (I use Vectornator, which is free), you can create the shape, save it as a pdf, open it in word, add an image to the figure, save it as a new pdf and then import it into Canva. This worked for me, though the added steps are rather annoying.

Happy to help!
What's pp? Not being a smart a** genuinely trying to understand what I may be missing
Tried importing the powerpoint-generated PDF with frame (a picture). But the frame doesn't show the image in canva although its clickable.
Great tutorial thank you ... I created similar in Affinity Designer and it worked perfectly for Canva :)
Nice to know you were inspired by the idea.
Thank you! This was such an easy and straightforward explanation
This was so helpful, thank you so much!
Thank You. This was straight forward and to the point. And Easy to follow. I appreciate this.
at 4:19 you delete the image and the custom frame is left, but HOW?????? If I click on my image and delete it, it's just gone, no frame left.
i just found out that now we just need to upload the file as .pptx file. Not pdf anymore
OMG... I never know Canva+PowerPoint can be used like this! I just want to look for how to custom our frame size, but you give me beyond my expectation! Love this, will try right away ^ ^ Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I have just started getting familiar with Canva and I'm starting to like it more and more. You have been very helpful.

@@twistedsunshine8 did you try the technique outlined in this video using the advice from my comment?
Hi, where do you find an option to convert the image to a shape on Google slides? I've tried searching for it but there dosent seem to be such an option?
You'll use the "Mask Image" option found along the top toolbar. The icon for it looks like your standard "crop" button.@@Dianaaa183
Can it be added to a brand kit?
This worked brilliantly, thank you so much!
Everything I needed in one video. Thank you so much!
It's the way this worked without issues! This is amazing! Thanks.
That was WONDERFUL! Thanks Ram.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hii this didn't work for me but when I imported the .pptx file instead of converting to pdf it worked. Thank you!
Thanks - worked perfectly!
You're welcome! Great to know this worked out. Canva is really fun to use

same problem and don't have the option to merge shapes (is it because im using web ppt?)
Using Fill -> Texture, do not fill it with image.
Could you do the same with Google docs instead of powerpoint?
Excellent video!
Is there a way to do this with a program other than powerpoint? I don’t have access to that
MS PowerPoint and Canva together are a powerful design team.
How? Sir
@@lightupwithgm9111 It's because you can use the powerful features of both, side my side, in your design projects.

But how can you print them with the shape only. Like for windows decals/stickers?

Maybe you fill the frame with an image? Using Fill -> Texture, do not fill it with image.
Its not working, when I try to change the svg to a shape it just becomes a black rectangle
So cool! How do you save the frame to your frames menu so you can use it over and over?
is there a way to make custom photo grids?
is there not another place to create this other than power point? I cannot get another subscription. I already have so many.
but how to add white border to any custom shapes photo frame as you shown in the video
Thanks.
bummer. My pdf when opened in Canva isn't a frame. Just an image. hmmmm. It sounded so simple and I was excited to try it.
Make sure you fill the frame (in pp) with a texture (Fill -> Texture or picture source as video), do not fill it with image.
So this is really helpful, except I have one problem. I am trying to do a triangle shape, like bunting, so it points downwards. Every time I do it in powerpoint, when I put it into canva and drag the photo in, the photo is upsidedown! Have you any idea what I'm doing wrong?
You can rotate the frame
Wow wow wow
Does this still work for people? When uploaded, it just acts as an image and I can't see how to upload pdfs anymore aside from just dragging it.
