Made in black and white, totally de-glamourised, bereft of stained glass decor, gushing fountains and similar cinematic devices where acting takes centre stage and raises questions about class, dowry, Devdas’ loathing for Chandramukhi who reminds him of his cowardice in rejecting Paro and his own self-loathing leading to his eventual self-destruction.
