Your mood and laughter are infectious and always make me smile when I watch your videos. I am new to tying so I REALLY appreciate the simpler patters. Thanks for the great tip and for making me smile.
Wow I’m going to try it in white w maybe a touch of reddish flash for snook and trout in Tampa bay. Thanks so much for sharing your guide flys, so easy for us beginners!
I can say they do catch Texas redfish. Fishing in the southern Caribbean now and they work great for little barracudas that want movement and less flash.
This guide flies series has been amazing. I love fly tying but I do not like hours at the vice. I also like keeping everything as streamlined as possible and I don't think you could have made it any easier. A few easy flies for multiple situations! THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO ALVIN!!!
Loved the Lefty Kreh quote about Chartreuse. My favorite color for lots of flies. You’re videos are so much fun to watch. I like your positive attitude and simple guide flies. I have tied these for years and in sizes 3/0 and 5/0 they are my go to fly for northern pike.
I've tied a lot of these in rusty orange crayfish colors and they work real well. I gussy up the fly a little by using a straight-cut Zonker strip for the tail and a crosscut strip for the body. The body comes out a little fuller that way. As you say, it's a great guide fly.
I have a bunch of these in magnum sizes that I tie for pike. Black and red head/white tail are my favorites! I’ve also seen guys put a hot spot with marabou above the tail before wrapping the body. Good stuff.
It’s a great pattern that people don’t use because it’s to simple , I have a bugger box full of just these in multiple colors . Heading to AK in August for silvers pink is like candy for them . Very rarely do I weight these because as you say when they are wet they are heavy and in most cases I’m using a sink tip anyways . I Like your channel because you work off the KISS theory , why complicate things when you don’t have to .
I've started to use mono thread because it allows the material's color to sho through. Important to tie a half hitch every time you pause so thread doesn't unravel.
I really like the weighted version with a conehead (either brass or tungsten). The way it jigs in the water is very realistic when comparing to actual leeches.
Alvin! Another awesome fly for everywhere! Your guide flies over the last couple weeks have been awesome. They got me stoked to take my family down to North Padre Island the first week of April but with all the fish die offs, we decided to wait till next year to let the Gulf breath. We live in NW Wyoming so its a haul to get down there. Hopefully Ill get to use all the flies I tied next year! Cheers!
I tie these in olive, black and tan in around a size 6, with plenty of other colors still to test. Can confirm trout will munch on of these if given the opportunity and they're hungry enough.
Yes you can do it that way, but you would have to wrap the rabbit back over itself and tie it down and then wrap forward. That would leave a bump in the back. Does that make sense?
Hey Alvin... do you find that particular Loon UV glue to leave some "junk" after you hit it with the light? It's the only UV I've ever used - but I always seem to have a little slime or stickiness or something left on it.
I have noticed it at times. Not sure what causes it, maybe the battery is not fully charged in the light? I have hears other people complain about that as well.
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing yeah - I think mine could be kind of weak. Sometimes a little cleanup with rubbing alcohol afterward helps, but it'd be nice not to have to. Time for a new light.
Is that the only hook you use? Serious question. I've watched several of your video's ( all old one ) But almost everyone is on a B- 10s? Great hook. But is it your only hook?
I guess it would depend on the skill level of your clients. But novices targeting bigger fish around structure and tying novice level knot could run thru and big box of flies. Handing out 5 shank game changers would bankrupt you.
This might be the easiest fly ever, let me know what you think.
Would this be fished on a sinking or intermediate line typically?

Thank you so much!
Agreed. I think Alvin would be a fun guy to fish with.

Let me know how it goes.
Can’t get enough of these guide flys! Gonna grab a zonker strip & tie one up. Thanks man!
Go for it!

My daughter's favorite fly to tie!!!! She's going to enjoy watching this after school.

Yeah I'm gonna tie a bunch in a lot of different colors now.
Thanks for sharing I'm going to give this one a try for some Minnesota smallies.
Good luck!
I very rarely fly fish for bass. But i love watching your videos because your vibe is infectious...love all your stuff man. Keep it up!
I appreciate that!
I've been using your down and dirty guide flies, been catching large and small mouth bass the last couple of years... keep it up 👍
Glad you like them!
Thanks, Alvin. You are correct, this was an easy fly to tie. First time I tied it. Appreciate the video!
Glad it helped!
Just got inspired to tie one up man, thank you for your positivity and instruction. Stay safe out there sir.
Will do thanks for watching.

Alvin… in black or dark purple and a size 4 hook… these are red fish kryptonite! Thank you so much brother for sharing! God bless
Best fly best angler
Thanks!
Great fly, white tail/body and a red head is good for pollack here in the NE UK.
Good to know!
Been watching your vids for a while “soaking up some game”, can’t wait to start making my own flies. Thx for all you do!
Glad you like them!
Great and fun video Alvin. It made me dig out the rabbit strips I bought years ago and have never used.
So many uses for rabbitstrips.
Fly is awesome man, I added some crazy legs to it since it seems bass in my local waters can’t resist them! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
These are great, I tie them with bead heads for bass, but have also caught bowfin and blue cats with it as well.
I forgot about catfish!

Alvin, you have probably some of the best content of the web... thanks for sharing !!! Keep up the good work.. god bless ya !!!
Thanks for the kind words Brian!

Yeah, I'm about to tie up a bunch in different colors.
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing have you fished a white one before? I feel like it might do real well
@@SkroomJuice Yes and they work great for bass.
Love to see the action in the water for this fly. How do you saturate it to allow it to sink?
It soaks up water pretty fast usually just a couple of strips. Or if you can just let it sink on it's own.
Stupid questions n but why did you cut the tail and tie it in. Could you just tie it all in in one piece and wrap it it? I hope that makes sense.
Yes you can do it that way, but you would have to wrap the rabbit back over itself and tie it down and then wrap forward. That would leave a bump in the back. Does that make sense?
Awesome fly! Thanks for sharing. When using different hook sizes, is there a ratio for tail length to hook size?
Not really, I usually make the tail a little longer than the hook shank, but I have seen it tied with a much shorter or longer tail.
Thanks!

Definitely!
OK... "If it ain't chartreuse, it ain't no use" HAS to be put on a sticker or a t-shirt at some point 🤣🤣
Might have to do that.
I like this!

Easy and fast!
Yes it is!

New to your channel and finally got the two thumbs down thing...gave me a chuckle.
Glad it made you laugh!
U didn't need 2 cut strip 2 wrap
I got a catfish on one🤣
y work on everything!
I don't need a stinking game changer...lol
Ha ha, these are a lot easier. You don't cry when you lose one. 😂

Nothing sucks more than people that don't swim test their flys on their videos. I ain't tying something that isn't proven!
This pattern has been around forever. Been proven a long time ago. No need for me to test it. Just showing people how to tie it. It works.
