Julian is just so good and original. His outside licks and parts sound so close to not even making sense - if you didn't know you might think he doesn't even know the chords. But then he will just rip right back into the groove and progression with some incredible licks with so much melody and feeling. He really is one of the best guitarists of this generation. I'll never get tired of hearing him play.
That show was incredible. First Goose show and I'm glad that Julian stepped up with em! Great way to end my summer after graduating high school for sure. Absolutely stunning night.
Lage plays with more balls than just about any “jazz” guy. He’s not afraid to make it nasty and ugly at times, or take you to the edge of madness before he puts you back down gently with one of his masterful chordal fills. And I don’t mean just playing outside, all jazz players do that. I keep trying to lift some of those pedal point ideas that he does lol, it’s a losing battle but I’ll take any scraps I can get
Saw Goose for the first time at The Mann Philly this past summer! Whoaa 🤯 Didn’t know they had that level of intensity in them! Incredible set. Great session here as always Mike.
oh man - i hope you watched the rest of this! things get NUTS right after you paused the vid. i got a last minute ticket to this show, and when they announced julian i lost it lol. that intro had me welling up inside
I saw Julian play a few nights ago at the Palace theatre in Los Angeles and it was an amazing experience. It was a magical night, Julian emotes pure emotion when he plays.
Mr. Palmisano…wanted to leave a note expressing my gratitude for you and your channel. I am not a musician..yet..but I am an intense music lover. Dominated by jazz…it has always lit up my brain and soul. I also enjoy several other genres. I particularly enjoy your Stevie Ray Vaughan reaction videos. Born in 1964 I’ve been alive during an era of unmatched musicality. I believe Stevie is one of the best ever. You talk about feel so fervently and I agree with you. Just watched Dave Matthews and Bela Fleck jam Dave’s 41 for 30 minutes. The feel all the musicians has is mind blowingly unreal. I found Bela Fleck from your a Cory Wong video about Mr. Victor Wooten. I should tell you I am an enormous Pat Metheny Group fan….lastly, your knowledge and understanding coupled with your genuine approach and feel is inspiring and very appreciated
How cool is that. Goose is hittin' their stride and it's awesome to see. Julian Lage is a master with a unique and distinct style all his own. All those "off key" notes and sloppy sounding bends are what gives him his own, unmistakable tone. He always proves that he can play clean with these beautiful runs, then hits you stuff like that and it just makes you go "what?!?!" just like Palmisano did at 6:59
My guy! I’ve been following you for a a few years now. You’re so consistent and your content is incredible and infectious. Just stopping to say thank you! Hope we can jam someday :)
You stopped JUST short of THE funniest/hippest moment: that saturated Rick run at 12:40 - Julian immediately repeats the first half of it back to him and then goes full-on goofy, Rick is obviously tickled by it. Then, it gets even more wild.
Incredible show! Fun analysis Pretty certain the bit at around 8:15 is a maj7 sound, Bb (G string on the 15th) and A (E string on the 17th). It would be a Gm add9 in that context. The crunchiness is made even more beautiful by that tele/amp combo. The phrase is C Bb A C# D (Bb A)
I watched this all the way through when it first appeared and I have a feeling anyone watching me would've wondered why this person wearing headphones is staring at their screen with their mouth agape. I grew up in New England in the 80s when winters were still consistently cold enough for us to play a lot of pond hockey, so as I watched this I kept thinking it's as if I were watching the best pond hockey players playing a game, being super impressed with how superbly they're all playing, knowing some of these skaters are definitely bound for the NHL (a couple of the people I played with back then actually did later play in the NHL--and, yes, they regularly and easily made me look like I was wearing cinder blocks instead of skates), thinking this is all so cool...and then Wayne Gretzky (in his prime) shows up and joins in. I am not sure from what advanced dimension or plane of existence Julian Lage descended to ours to share his gift with us, but, wow, am I oh-so ever glad he did.
Hey man! I’ve watched a bunch of your reactions and love what you are doing! I don’t know if you know him or not but I just discovered this guy and think you should check out his cover! It’s smooth criminal by Charles Berthoud! It’s insane!
Seeing them on Friday night (4 days from now)! Can't wait. This will be my first time seeing them in person. If Julian would like to sit in, there won't be any complaints from me. So good.
I was going to suggest this to you yesterday it's phenomenal : ) Lage is virtuoso aspect of metheny, Django, you name it he effortlessly expressed himself through his instrument as always. Filthy. Goose new drummer does a very russ Lawton like groove in this first track it's great.. I got goosebumps at 4:30 and that was just beginning

You could study this performance your whole life and still find things to learn
This kind of playing makes me want to skip the pentatonic and and go straight to practicing arpeggios
Nope. You can only study this 12.5 years.

Seemed like a beautiful duet/duel of goodness. Very fun!

Just saw Julian and the trio in Denver and they were on a heater
Anything he touches is gold!
11:50 100% agree, I clocked that immediately as well. Standing next to Julian, you're gonna try n make it jazzy
Oh this was so good! Thanks, Michael! I had heard Julian before, but had never heard Goose! This was hot!
Been waiting for this
Very cool…love your channel…Julian Lage is such a class act
this was such a wild jam. Thanks for this one, Michael!

Julian, Rick, Jeff and Ben all came out of Berklee. Quite a school!

Julian is a great player but, from his interviews, seems like an even better person.
❤seeing Goose this Saturday

Julian plays like he is walking on the edge of a razor.
more like a kid in a field on a summer eve - pure joy
@@jada90 You're both right. He's everything and everywhere, all at once. Less than a single hand's count can compete with Julian.
Your face watching this … I’m pretty sure .. mirrored mine . Damn -damn
tory slusher ...we need an episode on tory slusher
i really want to see julian play with phil and friends
I like the singer way better than the other guy.
Ciao Michael, I think Julian line you were trying to identify is G#-A-C#-D-A with the last D and A ringing together, nothing else…maybe. 😂
I think you'd like Plasticities by Andrew Bird. The version From The Basement is incredible
Goooooss

Shapiro must've given Julian Lage the bag to play with Goose. That's literally the only explanation.
