    There was a player asking something like the following in chat earlier tonight:
    "Please all of you, answer this question. Do you use the guild trader system? Yes or no - if no, specify why"
    I counted 23 answers, only 3 were "yes". And almost all who answered no, said either "I don't understand it", "I don't know what that is", or "too complicated".
    We REALLY need an auction house!

  • @Dana-cb7vk
    @Dana-cb7vk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks for the video! Newer player but trading in any MMO has always been an activity I love. The lack of a universal marketplace hub, or game-wide markets tying to a universal auction house is indeed wonky.
    Even the 'best trade guilds' seem like their outside revenue will always be randomized to who visits their trader vs. the othrr guild store traders in any gi en marketplace. Its...odd. Makes you wonder then how one trade guild can be betrer than another sans plug ins, like console for instance.
    Anyhow, thanks for the video!

  • @ArseneGray
    @ArseneGray 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think they prefer this "system" because
    0 : it plays and feels more "realistic" in a Roleplaying way
    1 : It is easier to maintain for zenimax, no massive trade front to maintain
    2 : In game economy is not transparent, hence most players wont notice balance issues
    3 : it makes "playing the Trading Post" (flipping, etc) playstyle harder, forcing many players into giving up that idea. Hence making the game not succumb into that. (many other MMOs have that problem)
    4 : By dividing up the supply via available locations, it is easier to keep the value of items in higher then they actually are.
    This is actually a very important point let me explain, if everybody contributes to a central supply of an item (like in GW2) and this is very transparent in the TP (like in GW2), prices will drop massively. Because in ESO you only have access to (theoratically, unless you WP around which is a burden) what nearby Traders offer, that is why you are more inclined to commit "casual" transactions without checking the global price. Which keeps the economy running.
    5 : Keeps low-value(high supply) items actually valuable and adds value to low-level content.
    This is also massive since I think this is the main reason of zenimax. Think abou this that way, balancing economy is extremely hard. Like no one would Harvest Iron if it is not used in any meaningful End-Game recipe, and suddenly you just made Iron nodes compoletely Obsolete. Since Zenimax do not or cannot balance the game in such a way that low level items keep value, they create an economy in which it is very hard to see how useless that item actually is. And so they keep the low-level content actually somewhat viable.
    I mean it is harder to find a fucking Trader nearby who sells that one Wood, instead of going out and finding a node to harvest.
    Since it is so frustratingly hard to get access to a meaningful trade, you instead choose to "play the game for it".
    Take a look at Gw2, which is a superior game than ESO in almost any aspects. The perfect centralized TP there is extremely easy to use and access. Hence the GW2 developers need to actually keep the economy in constant control to maintain game balance.
    Zenimax basically made it hard to trade, so they dont need to balance the economy that much.
    That is the real reason IMHO.

    • @ArseneGray
      @ArseneGray 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Like think about this,
      In Gw2 if someone buys all the iron, immediately prices go up, that makes the players go and make PvE runs for metal items, which deconstruct into metal so they make money.
      Then you release new content in which in a zone Mobs drop metal weapons, players will farm it, and the prices fall etc.
      You get a game which is connected and formed by the economy, like IRL. With turns the game into a Real Life simulator where people will organize themselves in a wealth pyramid, where the goals of the game become obtaining money so you can buy the stuff "rich" players want to be "important" it is crazy how real life like game feels at that point.
      It is extremely annyoing and hard to keep such a game running for long becasue it is impossible to keep people on the low side of the pyramid interested in a game which is basically a Real life economy simulator. It is not about content anymore, but only about releasing items which can be added to the economy carousel. THIS HAPPENS TO EVERY MMO or Looter Shooter, examples : GW2, Path of Exile etc... There are actually many games outside whic WANTS this so you can monetize this shit.
      There are methods you can defend your game against this ultimate hell:
      1 : You can forbid trading altogether, result : impossible to keep long-term motivation for high nubmers of players. Hence game dies.
      2 : You can make most of the items not tradeable (soul-bound) result : same as above.
      3 : You can try to balance the economy in which you carafully adjust the availability of items to alter trading prices, result : extremely hard and too much work to do.
      4 : You can try to make items easier to obtain in game than in Trading Post, hence circumventing the problem
      There are problably more methods. but I think the number 4 is the way Zenimax tries to solve this, It HAS a Trading system to keep an illusion of end game goal for hardcore players,
      and at the same time makes it so hard to take part in it that it is actually easier to play the game. That way Zenimax can keep the focus on what really matters. Content, Gameplay and Story, not a Wall street simulator.

I am lvl 50 CP 20ish and I cant trade. I mostly want to just buy food/drink because there is no way in hell I am going to pay over $100 a year to play a $30 game...It's a fun game for sure despite all the deliberate annoyances put in my path (like the fences in the hubs that you have to go around because it's faster than to jump over etc. but there is just too many unexplained elements. I still h ave no clue what a lot of the things mean. Like, minor this major that, I have no clue why I want those or what those do and game made 0 effort to tell me. Hell, hovering over those when they are active pop up the tooltip saying "yup, this is minor/major blah blah buff / " no word on what they actually do...

      Hermaeus Mora what makes you think the money in your bank account is real? Or even physical paper currency? The paper isn’t valuable. It holds value because we all agree it should have practical buying power. Gold in eso is real currency that we use to judge the value of in game items. The more gold there is in circulation, the less each piece of gold is worth.
      Currency inflation is a huge problem in a lot of mmos actually. Eso has done a pretty good job at maintaining the value of in game gold by regulating the volume of gold available using tools like taxes, bag upgrades, in game housing, and more.

    • @avatar19822

    • @Grimhallow

      Hermaeus Mora because in a single player game, you’re the only person real person in the economy. NPCs are not rational agents, and won’t start charging more for their goods because there is more gold in the system, but that is exactly what real people do.

    So as a new player, its not possible to just go to a store, and sell my items to an NPC?

    • @chrisw1462
      @chrisw1462 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can sell most items to any 'merchant' NPC, but be aware a lot of items will be worth nothing to them (they'll still 'take' them, you just won't get any gold), and for anything worth selling you'll probably get more gold selling to players. For gear that doesn't sell well, deconstruct it and sell the materials. Materials always sell, though not for a lot of gold. Of course, you'll need to level all your crafting skills to get the most returns from deconstruction.

  • @quintonmason1513

    What a bs trading system. My conundrum is this. I need a decent build for battlegrounds/pvp. In order to get this gear, I need to craft and upgrade the items to legendary. The mats needed for this are so expensive on guild store. So what's the solution? Farm your ass off and sell items for gold to buy the mats. SO I look up best gold making methods, and most of them say you need to farm nodes and then sell them on guild store. So then I look up how to join a trading guild. I still cannot find one and now I find out that trading guilds do not have a 24/7 operation, that only every now and then based on some randomized raffling system, are they able to actually trade? On top of that, there are prerequisites within these guilds to actually trade? FML. I just want to farm stuff and sell and make gold. Not everyone lives in ESO, some of us have real lives where we have limited time to play. In GWARS2. you run to TP and sell. No mess no fuss. All this stuff about economy balance in ESO is just stupid. Supply and demand is a real thing, and it work just fine in GWARS2. Why they try and get around this in ESO has just made things extremely frustrating for more casual players.
