@@molehead89 I'm not gonna hate on you for wanting to get better at soloing content but i really recommend making some friends in the game and trying to get a guild with people you enjoy playing with. While a lot of content can be done solo a large portion can not be done that way. Try getting through trials or dlc dungeons solo and you most likely wont because you need to meet a certain damage requirement to match mechanics (also goes for tanking/healing). As someone who has played eso for years I can definitely say soloing content can be fun, or even just doing content made for more people than what you have (doing normal halls of fabrication with 4 people was a highlight of my time playing). Again, try and find a smaller guild, possibly with people around your skill level so you can grow as players together. It also really helps that in eso 4 people is the max a dungeon can have and 12 for trials so you don't need to search all too much for people/bring people you don't like into groups. Also, I recommend checking out solo pvp videos if you really want to expand your knowledge on how to solo effectively. Things are not all that different for solo players be that pvp or pve. Except maybe sets/traits on armor and a couple skills.
Really good tips for beginners! 👍 I would add build basics as well such as skill scaling. Stamina abilities get stronger with max stam and weapon damage and so on. 2. Focus on either stam or mag, but have a move or two that can use the other resource, this will up your sustain. Try to balance survivability, sustain and damage according to your play style.
No, the best tips for a beginner who is new to MMOs shows him/her how to work with others... This is an MMO, ffs! Join guilds, encourage skills that have group effects or synergies... The last thing you need when running a group dungeon is 4 solo players, doing their own thing... 2 people working together will out-perform 4 people doing their own thing every time...
@@tazzeightsixfour9721 there's no reason why it cant be all of the above, I built upon the video by adding more info, in essence "working with others". I know I was upset because I was busy finishing off adds and didn't get to slay the big bad in the Dark Brotherhood... Apparently, your "normal" is solo in an MMO, which is sad, but praise the divines that the developers made it possible for lonely people to get through this content solo... All I'm saying is if you are a beginner, and are overwhelmed by the mass of content, think about ways to attack content in GROUPS, not ways to hone your single-player skills... The goal of an MMO isn't to ignore grouping up in lieu of solo play... Andre the Giant said it best when he was the Brute squad in "The Princess Bride;""You use different moves when you're fighting 4-5 guys at once..." Being able to get through content with 3-4 people all pulling the same direction is a lot easier, and less discouraging for beginners, than trying to consume content on your own...

DOT and instacast are two different things. Dot skill can be instacasted or it can have a cast time, or it can have a cast point. You can say the spell is dot, or the spell has instant damage after casting.

Another nice video, thanks for the work put into it. As a more experienced ESO player, can I ask that you make a video for '5 Advanced tips for soloing in ESO'? Something along the lines of Champion Point allocation, gear sets and the reasoning to pick them, and other things that I can't think of because I'm not a content creator Once again, thanks for the videos.
Right off the top of my head: Many raid builds (Alcast, Xynode) will pass up sets and skills since the Tank and Healer are supposed to give the buffs they bestow. So cheating off of those builds is key. Primarily: You will be hard-pressed to over-penetrate on your own. So set bonuses you'd normally avoid because they may be redundant (Night Mother's Gaze), Lover Mundus, Ele Drain or Pierce Armor (if you don't have another source of Major Fracture/Breach like Power of the Light), Sharpened trait, Champion Point pen, even Crusher glyph are all on the table when doing your own pen math. So long as you get to 18,200, you're good (for vMA you may want to only go to 12, or be flexible to modify your pen between rounds since it varies). After that, Slimecraw monster set is great if you don't need the survivability that Iceheart gives. Minor Berserk is usually given to the team by the healer (Combat Prayer) and an 8% boost to all damage (on top of the crit bonus) is asinine. Keeping a toolbox of unequipped skills and sets is important, too. What's on your bar/body isn't the end of your build, having other things that you can swap in between fights will get you through tough mechanics, or high-damage fights. Examples: AOE loadout for multiple bosses/bosses with adds vs single-target, utility like gap-closers, purge, shields, tankier sets vs straight DPS sets. Since you'll be burning down scattered mobs on your own, you may want to watch a tanking video and see what you'd like to adopt. Apart from chains/Silver Leash, you can Line of Sight mobs just as you would PVP opponents and pull them around corners, into tight corridors, etc to group them for quick AoE burns. This falls more under a basic tip, but wasn't covered in the video: Read/watch up on the mechanics ahead of time, esp when soloing Vet content. Know the one-hit-KOs and know what you can dodge/block/ignore. Know what mobs need to be focused or ignored. Know your own DPS so that you can decide whether you're treading water or making progress (good example is healing bosses like Drodda in Direfrost - yes, you can solo Direfrost - where even if you immediately break her heal, you can still lose enough progress with poor DPS that you'll never get her to execute). Magicka users may need to keep tripots on hand for dodge/break free/sprinting intensive fights, but this is rare.
I enjoy your videos and applaud your efforts in making builds the best you can and modify each for different play styles. Do you have or recommend zombie farm builds? I know folks say “play the game and level up on your own time.” Well in this “I want it now!” Day and age most folks want to get leveled quick. I’m guilty of that myself. Zombie farms seem to be the best xp per time spent at the moment. Do builds for that would be great.
Nice guide Hack :) I kinda disagree with one thing though, DoT's are much worse than you stated in the video, instead of doubling dps for each DoT ability, it only adds 10% of your spammable's dps. Also resistances is another thing that's incredibly important, if not the most important point, because healing, damage shields and health get effectively increased with that one stat alone. Been soloing in ESO for years and perfecting solo builds every single day, so this is from personal experience :)
unless you count vet trial boss resistance from overland bosses is laughable and no need to specially spec into penetration. Sure if we talk end game you are right, but you can't end game solo
I have to be honest, as a veteran player most of this video was laughable. Not because it's bad or incorrect, but because it seems geared strictly towards new beginners despite mentioning it's for all players. However, this video turned out to be extremely informative and I learned a lot, especially on the number one tip. I've seen passives and abilities like that in your previous videos and wondered what the heck that was and this video explained it. This is going to help me out tremendously. Huge props and big thanks, and my apologies for my initial reaction to this video.
Start with Health, and find out how much is Enough. Okay, then start on Defense, and spend the bare minimum resources to stay alive. (Bonus if your Damage Mitigation does Damage like Lightning Form.) Next, Healing... Everything else goes into killing the enemy. Health/Defense doesn't win fights, it keeps you from losing. After that, everything to win the fight.
Its insane how fast you're killing enemies in this video lol. I've been playing eso solo for a couple years, just finally made it to the champion levels and it still takes me ages to kill every enemy lol
I’m new to mmos and I picked eso and I’m loving it but holy crap over whelmed. So I just quest and pay attention and listen to other players . I’m glad I bought this
Yes, it's Magicka Templar Solo PVE Build - Nova Shield. I'm using it and you're right, it's insane! You can swap out the skills as needed, but the basic build works really well as you can see!
So I have a question. If I just keep doing dungeons will I accumulate all of those armor sets and weapons that are "zone antiques". Not sure the name. But will I eventually acquire all that gear just by playing?
You mention DoTs as straight multipliers on damage, but I don't think that's quite accurate. It takes time to use the ability and apply the DoT, time that you're not casting the straight damage stuff. From what I've observed most DoT abilities are only like 140-150% the total damage. You've usually got about half a normal ability's worth of damage either up front or as a burst at the end, and the whole DoT part adds up to a whole ability.
It is a hybrid build. Hybrid builds can be really fun, but generally I would not recommend them, because you will do less damage than if you would focus on one primary damage type. What also a lot of beginners not know is, that max magicka/stamina scales the damage of magicka/stamina based abilities.
Hack, my Argonian magicka nightblade uses Swallow Soul, Dark Cloak, and (back-bar) Rapid Regeneration for healing. His main weapon is a lightning staff. What heals should I add or change, if any? Sets worn are 5 Crafty Alfiq, 5 Necropotence, and (for now) 2 Julianos, all divines. Mundus is Steed (and damn he's fast!). Thanks.
malataur sounds like you have plenty of healing plus minor protection from dark cloak which is great. If you add damage shields to this you will have great survivability 👍
@@malataur That build is almost identical to the one I use on my magic nightblade. Your healing seems fine but what I would suggest is using the light armor shield morphed to Harness Magicka and switching to an inferno staff over a lightning. The inferno staff makes your single target abilities hit harder (through the destruction staff passives) and magic nightblade does mostly single target damage. As for the mundus stone I would recommend putting it to whatever you need the most. If you have less than 1400-1500 magic recovery i would use the atronach, health a little low? use the lord and so on.
Good info. Lookin to get into this game, solo is good way to start I think but I feel like I’ll need a crew soon... [pc] any places I can find a good crew willing to chaperone a newbie?
If i toggle to weapon set 2 and activate a long duration buff, will that buff stay on me, even if i change back to my normal set 1 that does not have said buff?
Great video. One thing, though. I believe DS's - that is, Damage Shields - are spells that cause the enemy damage when they hit you. Shields that cause damage. Damage shields. What you're looking at there is a Rune effect, or even a Ward. Not a DS. :) Edit: I've seen this effect called damage shield in the wiki, too. I'm still not convinced I'm wrong.
Nope, damage shields are basically temporary health that sits over your actual health as padding. They arent called wards because wards are already a separate thing in the elder scrolls universe but I can 100% confirm that damage shields are triggerable layers of temporary health with the only caveat being that they don't benefit from your character's resistances, they have never done damage on their own unless an ability or armour set makes them do damage.
This Guide now has a WRITTEN VERSION with more detailed information here! www.hacktheminotaur.com/eso-guides/solo-tips-for-the-elder-scrolls-online

BTW, tanks and healers are THE MOST essential part of a party... (As a DD, it's important to flex my social skill acumen whenever possible... I could be working on my solo rotation, but this is a more effective way to stay alive in ESO...)
I would add build basics as well such as skill scaling.
Being able to work in a group is great but people should know how to their own. This game is 95% solo, with the only group content being dungeons and trials and half of pvp.
@@Riko_XIII Well that's a lie.... Where did you "build upon this video??" Did you suggest that anyone use anything besides an individual focus on magicka or stamina?? 95% of this game CAN be done solo... not 95% should be done solo... In fact, I think the only part of ESO which must be accomplished solo was the Molag Bal quest, and that was before One Tamriel, I think...
@@tazzeightsixfour9721 molag baal, mage guild, fighters guild, psijic, thieves guild, assassins guild, all zone quests, most of the daily quests. These are things you would normally do on your own. Being able to clear it without help is a good thing, being independent is a good thing. Understanding the basic mechanics of the game is important, knowing that max stat affects the effectiveness of moves is valuable information. This is the info I needed when I started and I'm forwarding it to other. Information that I got from joining an awesome guild that help out new players.
@@Riko_XIII Spoken like like someone who can't make friends and must do these things solo... I don't know that I even did the main story quest of northern Elseweyr solo.... I know I was grouped with others when I defeated Evil Cadwell... Not that I COULDN'T do it, but why??
I’m about to start playing for the first time and this is awesome, thanks!
Welcome,my ig is Morgan Van Brutal,so feel free to add me!
Can you provide some information about how to set up your screen? You have skills on top, health bar in the middle and more skills below all that. How do you set this up?
I solo almost exclusively. Everytime I've done groups there's been that 1 13 year old a-hole that ruins it for me. I turn chat off because of how bad things get in the main cities. I only group if absolutely necessary
Thank you for all you do bro !!!
I just started playing recently. Ive played all the characters till level 15 or so because i couldnt decide what to pick. I looked up some like beginner-ish friendly builds on your website to kind of keep myself on track for my first time but im still having so muxh trouble and so many questions. I joined a guild who said they are super social and help new players but they honestly dont do crap. So honestly i have no idea what im doing most of the time. Buuuut im still having fun. And i enjoy the videos. Thanks a bunch

DOT and instacast are two different things.
Dot skill can be instacasted or it can have a cast time, or it can have a cast point.
You can say the spell is dot, or the spell has instant damage after casting.

Aliosar22 ok we get it
Yes, "stupid" can be any color...
Thanks! I had no idea about damage shields! I’ve got a CP 300 Stamplar and World Bosses are still kicking my ass (with a healer companion) and mediocre gear.
you forgot that if you are locked in place do a dodge/roll to free yourself this also will buff your movement for a short time so it will counter slowness debuffs.
Thanks for your videos - I have played WOW for years, but thinking about moving to ESO soon - I will concentrate on dps at first - what race and class is competitive for melee and which for ranged? Was thinking from your videos a Stam Templar for melee and Mag Sorcerer for ranged of something with a bow.
4:34 your damage does not quadruple AOE ticks do a fraction of the damage direct damage attacks do.
7:30 420health recovery because he be *blazing it* 👌😎👍
Nice clip of taking down the Unfinished Dolmen titan. I never realized you can focus the portals to stop the scamps, one of those things you don't realize when there's a half dozen other people helping you.
i learned alot from this, i'm currently cp 350+ but i'm definetly gonna gonna use some of these tips, i'm stuck vMA atm, so i'm excited to try it out with this knowlegde :)

Can you post the DK build you were using? Don't often see people using a greatsword and staff on the same build, and I'm always on the look out for good hybrid builds.
honestly after playing dark souls and bloodborne so much I was so excited to find out u could roll dodge
Pleas keep doing this I need as much help as possible also do beginner pvp builds and duel guide
You did not mention this...a good self heal for stam users is Vigor. But in order to get that skill you do have to PvP a bit.
Great video and the explanations are easy to understand. I've played Skyrim a couple of years ago and this game looks quite good 😁👍.
4:35 do u have guide for this build?
wish this video was up 15 months ago lol the only thing i didnt know about was the double resource return on unbalanced enemies but a nice well thought out video with some very useful tips keep up the great work its appreciated
Love the skyrim music btw
It's making a comeback! Lol - every video of mine has had some Skyrim music pieces for the past month at least.
Fantastic vid man!
Loving the focus on soloing in your latest videos, please continue :-)
Great. Now I am gonna start playing ESO again. Nice video
Broo you need to light attack in between skills literally the strongest source of damage for any dd and it cost no resources
Even more than that, you can skip the animation if you get a feel for it, it's free damage

mcandelario8 I agree lmao these builds are absolutely ridiculous lmfao
Another nice video, thanks for the work put into it. As a more experienced ESO player, can I ask that you make a video for '5 Advanced tips for soloing in ESO'? Something along the lines of Champion Point allocation, gear sets and the reasoning to pick them, and other things that I can't think of because I'm not a content creator
Once again, thanks for the videos.
I would like this too
Right off the top of my head: Many raid builds (Alcast, Xynode) will pass up sets and skills since the Tank and Healer are supposed to give the buffs they bestow.
Check out Andy s on TH-cam. He’s solo’d veteran black rose prison. He also has an overpowered werewolf build.
Your DK solo build looks fun!
Great vid thanks. We’re can I turn on the damage display would like to see how much I’m hitting for

Really helpful, thanks mate.
Love the music at the end
never mentioned multi stat food buffs, always good to keep one up.

This was great. Got some great tips to try out :)
Is there a way to turn off the red glow around enemies but keep the red glow of their attacks?

Yes, it's Magicka Templar Solo PVE Build - Nova Shield. I'm using it and you're right, it's insane! You can swap out the skills as needed, but the basic build works really well as you can see!
Dude can you please make a templar hybrid build, that would be awesome. Great video
Check back in a few days. It's coming. 😎
Fantastic cant wait. Running your DK hybrid and loving it. Keep up your awesome job.
Thanks this was helpful!
I didn’t realize that aoe attack uses more and I was using it on bosses then run running out and having to wait.
I've been playing this game since the Summerset version and I still suck at it. Any tips for uncoordinated people? :P

Is the undaunted damage shield viable for dw builds?
What was that fire Dragon Knight build with the 2 hander and staff? Was it doing magic damage?
It is a hybrid build. Hybrid builds can be really fun, but generally I would not recommend them, because you will do less damage than if you would focus on one primary damage type. What also a lot of beginners not know is, that max magicka/stamina scales the damage of magicka/stamina based abilities.
Did you try stamDK 2h/sword&board? Kinda like tank/dps hybrid, wanna make one but still deciding what sets to use.
Seventh legion or dragonguard body, bloodspawn or trollking helm and shoulder , jewelry and weapons brierheart or any offense set
Best race imperial, nord ,agrarian,

And for pvp you want all impenetrable traits on your armor
Hack, my Argonian magicka nightblade uses Swallow Soul, Dark Cloak, and (back-bar) Rapid Regeneration for healing. His main weapon is a lightning staff. What heals should I add or change, if any? Sets worn are 5 Crafty Alfiq, 5 Necropotence, and (for now) 2 Julianos, all divines. Mundus is Steed (and damn he's fast!). Thanks.
malataur sounds like you have plenty of healing plus minor protection from dark cloak which is great. If you add damage shields to this you will have great survivability 👍
@@HackTheMinotaur Thanks, man! I'm working on getting that shielding monster helm. (Got the shoulders over the weekend.)
When hit while a damage shield is active IF the shield breaks does the remaining damage from that hit land or is it cancelled?
The remaining damage will hit you

Great video. One thing, though. I believe DS's - that is, Damage Shields - are spells that cause the enemy damage when they hit you. Shields that cause damage. Damage shields. What you're looking at there is a Rune effect, or even a Ward. Not a DS. :)
Edit: I've seen this effect called damage shield in the wiki, too.
Do nightblade have any aoe abilities early on?
