I'm 80 and I can pick out the year, make and model of just about all the cars that show up in the series. I can't do that with today's cars, and I'll bet I'm not the only one😊😊😊😊
Sky King and The Whirlybirds were a big influence on me becoming a pilot. The first time I flew a Cessna 310, it took me back to my childhood, like watching these now. Retired from a major airline in 2019 with over 36,000 accident free hours.
I don’t know how this came along for me to watch, but my oldest brother (God rest his soul) would tell me one of his favorite memories growing up was grabbing a glass of milk, peanut butter and jelly sandwich and watching Sky King. Being that I came along in ‘68, my favorite was Emergency!
Love this series-remember it growing up. For a small community in the middle of nowhere they sure had a lot of crime-lol. Glad the sheriff had a “air division” to fight crime.
I'm 70 and I was a big fan of "Sky King." I have a vague memory of Sky King landing the Songbird on an aircraft carrier. I would enjoy seeing that episode again.
Great show and it's got it all. 1950's cars, taildragger Cessna, the "good cook" Penny, a modern Western, and Geiger counters. What's not to love about it.
1967 sycamore, illinois I saw Kirby grant sitting on a horse singing a cow boy song in the Carson and Barnes circus. My little brother got an autograph picture.😊
I watched Sky King when I was a kid too! It played on Saturday morning at 12:00 noon! At first it was the Cessna known as the Bamboo Bomber used during the war and then they used a number of 310k Cessna’s. I made sure I saw every episode when it was on! It was my favorite show!!⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍
They were great wholesome shows. I loved watching them 65 years ago and I still enjoy watching them today. Probably re-watched all of them on TH-cam by now!
In 2024 I'm 70 now and I loved the sky king show for the adventure and later at 19 I joined the usaf, and stayed for 20 years. I wasn't a pilot, I carried a m-16 rifle instead.😊
Thank you! 2am and this is perfect. I’m 44 and love this stuff so much more than today’s stuff for the most part. Love from California. Penny is adorable, by the way! 🌺
I was good friends with Kirby Grant. We had Lunch together almost everyday. He was Ambassador for Florida Festival (a Shopping and Dining Attraction across from Sea World). I was the Magician at the Six Flags Stars Hall of Fame Wax Museum next door. He was a nice guy and a real Gentleman. My biggest regret was not taking him up on his offer to go flying with him.
I was amazed when I found out that Kirby Grant owned all the rights to the program.. you can still buy the complete series in Oshkosh at the Vintage Barn from the family.
What?! Imagine going from an office job (I’d assume) to being THE pilot on Sky King for all the flying. What a difference a day makes, wow! And he landed beautifull, I think. I’m 44 and love your channel. Wishing you a great 2024 Angie from the Bay Area 🌅
I knew Euing Mitchell. and I spent a lot of time at his house. He left and my uncle and his family moved in for a few years. The house stands on the Considine Ranch in Valley Center CA off Cole Grade Rd. His son was Walter a grade younger than me at Valley Center Elementary School. This was in the very early 60s or the very late 50s. Once, Sky King drove Walter to school to show off for Walter. I was a kid but I remember quite well as I would see him with my Dad and uncle hanging out.
how come in the opening and closing credits he flying the second song bird but in the show he flying the first song bird? also kirby grant did fly planes
I love the destination sign on that bus: Weiser. My mom was from Weiser, Idaho. I am 74 and grew up loving Sky King. I have the complete (albeit over-priced) set of the series. That said, the colorization on this is horrible: characters have flesh-tone faces and black and white hands, the color fluctuates wildly, etc. It’s distracting. Just leave it as we remember it: black & white.
It's a work in progress with the colorization. The last few I have done are much better. I hope you will have a look. It is much improved. Thanks for the comment, I am trying!

Yes, I remember Sky King fondly. And, wow, Songbird gets a workout. And I am 76.

According to google there was no episode like that.
@@donnienicholson6062 Maybe, he landed at a naval base - I dunno. I'm talking about a memory from 65 years ago.

You are so welcome!
What a guy...that Sky King!!!!!

Everyone sure got knocked out easily in old movies and shows. 😁
And that nonsense at 10:34.....that's where King's got the guards for their harem.

🛩Thank you 🛩Great show 🛩
I remember watching sky king 1959 age 5, at 19 I joined the usaf and became a sky cop!😂
The scenes at the mine were shot in the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, Calif.
Thanks! Glad to know that.
Bob gets knocked out again. You would think Bob would get out of Dodge before getting sapped, but NO.
how come in the opening and closing credits he flying the second song bird but in the show he flying the first song bird? also kirby grant did fly planes
Heck I’m 72 years old now! I don’t know what age I was back then?
The plane’s name was Songbird!
Before sky king, didn't "penny" star in her own tv show around 1950/51 title "cloress." ?
Why didn’t they carry the latest “walkie-talkies”.
cool like color sometimes b/w is classy too remember b/w tvs
