I tried googling for the proper name of this type of design, and as best as I can tell it's called a "ramp sink". Sometimes they're called "infinity sinks", but the problem is there are also other types of "infinity sinks" that don't have a ramp, but instead they're flat and have an overflow surrounding the entire sink, or sometimes they only *look* flat but there's an almost imperceptible gradient down to the backsplash, and a hidden overflow.
Anyway, I'd love to try this. I'm currently learning about tadelakt plastering, so I'd like to try incorporating this design with that plastering technique.

Thanks Stacie! Keep in mind you'd want to treat this stuff like real marble, so not hot pans etc if you're using it in a kitchen. :)

Literally using this to make our own! You didn't mention which sealers you used. I'm getting a bit lost and confused with all the different brands. Which ones did you use ?
Great video, cleaning the gutter may be an issue, how are you finding the cleaning of your design. Oh and what type/brand waterproofing did you use?
Hey Steve, sorry for the late reply mate. You can get a bottle cleaner down there to give it a clean. Next time I'd probably make the catchment area as small as possible to reduce water sitting but so far it been pretty good. Sealers are from the Venetian plaster gallery in Sydney.
Would microcement be suitable for a kitchen countertop?
It can be used. You would need to treat it with care though, for example no hot pans etc.
I LOVE THIS! but... If this is a bathroom sink, wouldn't the box gutter collect so much shaving cream, soap, hair, toothpaste, etc? And get smelly and full of bacteria? How can you get in there and clean?
just consider it part of the plumbing - you don't get into the trap and the u-bend to clean out hair and toothpaste, so don't worry about the gutter
This is awesome thanks so much for the effort in showing the whole process - one question - how do you catch things like jewellery or like cotton tips from the trap?
You're welcome. Nothing major has dropped in yet, however it is easy enough to undo the trap and get access

Awesome video, i want to do the kitchen counter top and if succeed at that. I might do the bathroom walls. How is it holding up so far and how do you maintain the microcement surfaces?
The majority of it is holding up very well. However the bathroom floor is getting some scratches and it does show dirt quite easily which can be annoying when you have 2 young boys 😆
The bathroom walls are great, basically no maintenance. If I were going again, I'd tile the floor, microcement the walls. 👌

Hey! Thanks. I’d probably recommend using a small strip drain over the box I used for drainage. Something with a pop out grate that is easier to clean from above.
What sealer and solvent did you use for the microcement? Can i use any type?
It was a product that came from the supplier that sold us the microcement.
Who are you purchasing your microcement from? They should have a product they recommend.
I live in Malaysia and it is pretty limited here, the one that i can find only is microcement lotos plaster skim. It say how to prepare the micro but in area high humidity they just recommend to apply additional protective coating, nothing specific. Can i use a cement sealer on microcement?

It's like a normal sink, plumbed to the waste, screwed to the timber vanity

Can't see a brand name. Look up Venetian plaster trowels or call a local supplier? They should be able to help you out 👌

I so want a client to ask for microcement in their bathroom, but it’s just not popular enough and it’s hard to push a client to do something just cause I want to experiment. But I’ll follow your steps if I do. Could you make a pdf of the specs for the sink and attach it in the notes?

@@antoniablunt5866 Hey Antonia! Thank you. It's holding up really well. Still looks great. Think I may re-seal the water plane again in the next few months. If I were to build another one, I'd just be sure to do 3 - 4 really good coats of sealer where the water hits the sink.

Seems like a lot of steps when you could have just made the inverse mold out of mdf or foam and used GFRC cement to the mold. No need for edging, etc

Dumb logic. Sorry bud, your sink will see water daily. Roof gutters don't, unless you're in the Amazon jungle with daily rainfall. Ugh.
