谢谢 for your help ! How would you say “My sister has played the piano for 3 years?” Since it’s a duration of time, is it also at the end? Like 妹妹弹钢琴弹了三年
I am just beginning to learn Chinese, but this is very helpful. I am confused by the example sentence in the exercises at the end about the sister playing piano. Why does the verb 'play' appear twice in this sentence? Because of that, I'm not sure what order to put it in.
Subject and object are functions, where verb is a head. Basic grammar teaches you you can't blend kinds and functions. Either use noun phrase + verb + non phrase, or subject + predicate + object. You can also explain the syntax with agent + action + patient. But don't mix them up.
It's well know in Linguistics the terminology SVO (SOV, etc.) to describe each an every language pattern on planet Earth. Your so called "basic grammar" is just too basic to understand what they are doing is completely right and common.

Why is the verb in set #3 duplicated? What is the rule on that and why? (starting at 9:56)
The sentence pattern there is called "verb-copying sentence" in Chinese Grammar.
The structure is: S + Verb1 + O + Verb1 + (得/了) + Complement
