    The lines in the wall bunkers........ The bunkers (in real life) are poured in slip form molds. Concrete structures are just to massive to do in one pour. Additionally the concrete is really thick, like chunky peanut butter, and will stick or clump to anything. Because the concrete is thick the metal reinforcing (rebar) on something vertical (wall or column) has to be poured in layers, then rebar, then another layer.
    Look at the walls of the next overpass as your flying down the highway.

    he Mel,
    The nice thing about that ruin farm house you can use plastic cement to glue bits of plastic sprue as joists.Then use craft stick or card stock as floor boards. It is cheap and easy.

    Great video Mel and some great looking products too.
    Another great product for building sandbag walls is the Hirst Arts Sandbag mould. There are all sorts of shapes that join together however you like to make great looking defences.
    It might be worth doing a similar build (Mel's Version) of the sandbag bunker that is featured on the Hirst Arts web site, I think that it would be a good series of tutorials on casting, building and painting. Just a suggestion, so no worries mate.

    Good overview and seems like nice products. It does bother me though that the house ruin has chimney without fireplace of any kind. Not a big deal but just the little bit of realism that makes it alive is missing.

    The elephant on the gaming table is scale your Anti tank obstacles are 1/72 or 20mm ( Italeri kit no 6147) not 28mm the bunkers look even smaller then 20mm and not 28mm Warlord is very good marketing wrong sale as 28mm.

    I must admit the fronts of the bunkers look wrong to me. I'd almost say they glued some of the pieces on wrong, upside down or something like that. I have never seen those 'toothed' sides before, and I've seen quit some bunkers in my life.

  • @Swindondruid2
    @Swindondruid2 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The bunkers are nice for the price, but nothing like Atlantic Wall Bunkers, which does detract from them a bit.

  • @Frostfire965
    @Frostfire965 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Mel, is Bolt Action the same scale as WH40K? How many miniatures would you say could hang out in those, if you're putting them in "realistically" (I.E. how many people would man that bunker)? Would your Imperial Guard fit in them and how many could fit (would an entire squad of 10 or so fit and would they have to be cramped in like sardines to do so)?
    Also I notice you always really rust up your barbed wire and other rustable defensive terrain. Is that because you like the look of them better when they're rusty or is it personal experience. You talk about experiences in the army so I'm going to make an ass out of you and me by assuming you have lots of experience with it. Does it really rust that fast or is it just left long enough to get that rusty?
    Edit: wait you can get tetanus or whatever that disease from metal from it can't you? So leave it to rust and the guys going through it might get sick if their hasty or be really slow going through for fear of disease/infection?
    And I forgot to originally ask: about how much area on a typical 4x6 board could these defenses cover for fortifications?
    Thanks a ton Mel!

    • @TheTerrainTutor
      @TheTerrainTutor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BA is the same scaling as 40K, it was written by the same guys. Ten men would fit in a bunker, or a heavy weapons squad. I like the look of rusted barbed wire but the modern stuff is galvanised, so doesn't rush mate. On the last one, depends on how many lines of defences you want to put down mate

    What was the purpose of the chevron walls on the bunkers? I've also seen bunkers with only one as well, thank you.

    • @chrisgibson5267
      @chrisgibson5267 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bunkers were there to fire on forces landing on the beach. So the gun in the bunker is pointed along the length of the beach rather than out to sea ( Enfilade/ defilade).
      The wall would be built on the seaward side of the bunker to protect the gun from fire from ships supporting the landing.
      Have a gander at the surviving bunkers on the coast of Normandy at Omaha beach.

    I don't know man, those bunkers look way too funky, like badly made foamboard stuff... It wouldn't have taken too long to little bit clean up and make the prototypes proper, considering that it was supposed to be multiplied anyways. Hate to say it but I would've been quite disappointed to unpack those if I had bought them since I'd had to coat them in gloop to use them :(

    • @hashishi9
      @hashishi9 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mean they look quite allright from distance, and the floorplans are nice too. If this is something people are buying, I might be investing on resin casting equipment and start making those myself :)
