I think in order to understand the storyline you have to know who is who, I know it’s hard lol but maybe you can have a cheat sheet on the table to help you with the names. Another thing is probably reading lyrics first then turbo lol running it back for visuals in case you missed anything. If you're planning on going into the BU (Bangtan Universe) majority of the time the lyrics don't go with the video. So like for this video since it's the start of the BU the video doesn't go with the lyrics like that. So I feel like if y'all gonna to react to the BU to watch the lyrics first and then turn off the captains and watch the video again and pay attention to details. Although you got certain members wrong you have the right idea. Also note that when the boys are with each other they're happy but when they're not together, you can see the struggles that they're going through. I like how Alex pointed out Hoseok's scene with the pills - both of them and how it relates to addiction. I get why you would see it like that. I don't recall which interview I saw it in now but RM said this song was supposed to be I Need You Friends for the group but Big Hits thought girl sounded better and so the video was made with the guys but I need you girl and some words were changed to fit that premise.
I know by this time that you get comments about what to watch for. Remember that the song and the music video has none or little corelation. The song is a sole entity. The music video on the other hand which is part of the storyline is the moving video of their Webtoon series named “Save Me”. I highly recommend you guys read that in Webtoon. from my experience, when I watched the music video first, I was totally confused. But after I read the webtoon, then watch the videos again, I got it(maybe and somehow). In this song I need you it does sound like they are singing to a girl or about a relationship. The lyrics are "I need you girl" but I think in this case and often the "girl" is a symbol or metaphor for something else - their selves? each other? You probably noticed that no girls actually feature in the video. Or, in many of their videos period. Now you know what a shock this was to the kpop world at the time. You don't usually see this type of story in kpop. I love listening to you guys discuss the videos. But, gotta say, in the BU (Bangtan Universe) the story being told in the video is often very diff from the lyrics to the song. Not always. But often. They are telling 2 stories at the same time. One note about the song is that the “girl” in the chorus was supposed to be the word “friend” but it sounded to weird so they replaced the word. Edit: also another thing to note about BTS is that they normally speak to either army, a friend, loved ones, and etc. So even though a sons might be talking about a girl, it’s normally not the case. That’s why a love BTS because typical love songs are so repetitive and gets old for me. Here’s my grain of salt: Artists who’s songs are all about romantic relationships makes me think that all they think about is just that, even though that might not be the case, it’s still drain out and uncreative.

Every scene of the seven of them together is the past. When they were together and happy and thier only problem was detention in high school. Everything with them in solo scenes is the present. And how they fell apart without each other. V kills his abusive father. Yoongi and Jungkook fought leading Both to fall into depression (Yoongi burns himself, we see in the comic that Jungkook jumps off a building or gets hit by a car). Jhope has narcolepsy and falls/passes out from stress and is admitted to the hospital. Jimin tries to drown himself, he later gets admitted to the same hospital as jhope. Namjoon ends up in jail because some rich dude sued him for something that happens at the gas station. Jin is the main character. He sees his friends fate and is given the option to go back in time to try and save his friends. That’s where this MV leaves off.

I think in order to understand the storyline you have to know who is who, I know it’s hard lol but maybe you can have a cheat sheet on the table to help you with the names. Another thing is probably reading lyrics first then turbo lol running it back for visuals in case you missed anything. For future storyline vids pay attention to pairs (once you know the names and faces well) its RM & V, JIMIN & J-HOPE , JUNGKOOK & SUGA , JIN IS SOLO/ALONE for a reason 👀 I’m hoping the comment section doesn’t give too much spoilers but Alex def raised interesting points. The story isn’t particularly about a significant other romantically but bts intentionally made it that way so that it’s relatable .

If you're planning on going into the BU (Bangtan Universe) majority of the time the lyrics don't go with the video. So like for this video since it's the start of the BU the video doesn't go with the lyrics like that. So I feel like if y'all gonna to react to the BU to watch the lyrics first and then turn off the captains and watch the video again and pay attention to details. Also in majority of bts music when they say girl they don't exactly mean an actual girl or relationship like that it could mean other things as well but that honestly how you interpret it. Although you got certain members wrong you have the right idea. Also note that when the boys are with each other they're happy but when they're not together, you can see the struggles that they're going through.
I like how Alex pointed out Hoseok's scene with the pills - both of them and how it relates to addiction. I get why you would see it like that. Usually people would point out the bridge scene when they assumed Hoseok fainted. Yes, assumed. Because the pills are actually for a condition that his character has. I don't recall which interview I saw it in now but RM said this song was supposed to be I Need You Friends for the group but Big Hits thought girl sounded better and so the video was made with the guys but I need you girl and some words were changed to fit that premise.
I know by this time that you get comments about what to watch for. Remember that the song and the music video has none or little corelation. The song is a sole entity. The music video on the other hand which is part of the storyline is the moving video of their Webtoon series named “Save Me”. I highly recommend you guys read that in Webtoon. from my experience, when I watched the music video first, I was totally confused. But after I read the webtoon, then watch the videos again, I got it(maybe and somehow). In this song I need you it does sound like they are singing to a girl or about a relationship. This is not your typical love song. Yoongi gave everything out in this by the thought of this will be their last. He was actually strughling between hating music, letting it go and holding onto it at last. Like how he was personifying music in his song "first love"
the members have always said that their music is for the audience and thus, for our interpretation... however you interpret it, will be the right version (esp considering that now you'll hear all about the BU storylineand just its deep and interesting but no one knows which theory is corect).. do your own thinking and take your time understanding this lovely angsty universe and remember that there are always more layers to bangtan's music than just a single theory or interpretation. It can be about an historical incident, self love, BU universe and the everything at teh same time. Just.. however you feel is correct will be the version thats correct.. have fun guys! The lyrics are "I need you girl" but I think in this case and often the "girl" is a symbol or metaphor for something else - their selves? each other? You probably noticed that no girls actually feature in the video. Or, in many of their videos period. It's not always about romantic love imo So proud of your detective skills so far lol you def got more than me the first time I started this haha
Now you know what a shock this was to the kpop world at the time. You don't usually see this type of story in kpop.
I love listening to you guys discuss the videos. But, gotta say, in the BU (Bangtan Universe) the story being told in the video is often very diff from the lyrics to the song. Not always. But often. They are telling 2 stories at the same time. Also, there is often a little sump'n sump'n at the end of BTS videos. Always play through to the very end. Next in the storyline is BTS Prologue.

One note about the song is that the “girl” in the chorus was supposed to be the word “friend” but it sounded to weird so they replaced the word.
Edit: also another thing to note about BTS is that they normally speak to either army, a friend, loved ones, and etc. So even though a sons might be talking about a girl, it’s normally not the case. That’s why a love BTS because typical love songs are so repetitive and gets old for me. Here’s my grain of salt: Artists who’s songs are all about romantic relationships makes me think that all they think about is just that, even though that might not be the case, it’s still drain out and uncreative.
You captured the theme - the angst and anguish of a breakup. I'll add, females go through the same thing with a breakup. It's been a long time but I remember the heart break of saying goodbye. Come to think of it. It's not only the growing up process but prepares us for the death of loved ones. Hmmm. I went too deep for a pop song.

12:14 keep in mind, in the storyline, the boys all have different home and socio-economic problems. Joon is poor and works at a gas station, Yoongi is depressed and burns his motel room, Jimin has repressed memories and tries to drown himself, Hoseok has narcolepsy and collapses, Jungkook picks fights to feel something because he's numb inside, Taehyung has an abusive father and his mother left him and his sister with said father that he later on stabs, and Jin has a controlling and rich father.
17:34 you have the basic idea, they can forget their problems when they're together. It was Taehyung who stabs his dad who was beating up his sister.

Ok so being a new fan of BTS can be a struggle sometimes. I remember going through many of the same things when you think you know what a song is about and then find out what it means and it feels like your whole life is a lie 😆Honestly though that’s the fun part about it. Their music makes you think, feel, really listen and pay attention. The process, though painful at times, is rewarding 💜
Guys, I feel like for the most part they have all the members names down, but they still need to match faces easier to be able to pick out pairs and everything. I'm very impressed with their progress on matching the names up though.

I think I've read somewhere that the initial version of the song didn't have the world "girl" in the "I need you (girl)" part, because they weren't really talking about a girl in this song.

Every scene of the seven of them together is the past. When they were together and happy and thier only problem was detention in high school. Everything with them in solo scenes is the present. And how they fell apart without each other. V kills his abusive father. Yoongi and Jungkook fought leading Both to fall into depression (Yoongi burns himself, we see in the comic that Jungkook jumps off a building or gets hit by a car). Jhope has narcolepsy and falls/passes out from stress and is admitted to the hospital. Jimin tries to drown himself, he later gets admitted to the same hospital as jhope. Namjoon ends up in jail because some rich dude sued him for something that happens at the gas station. Jin is the main character. He sees his friends fate and is given the option to go back in time to try and save his friends. That’s where this MV leaves off.
Yall get .. it is about the things people went through in life.. but as y'all going through the storyline you'll see their story developing even more..
