Recommendation while watching the storyline:
- Always focus on the pairs, with which person you see the members
- Always watch the video until the very end
- Always have English Subtitles (I think you know this already lol)
- Focus on the things that the members have on their hands or the things that are around them.

1. Jin is pivotal character in the story line,
2. Pay attention to the paired members, it is very important,
3. Always watch the videos to the end, because in the end there can be important scenes that many don't see,
4. Pay attention to every detail because everything is important and everything means something,
5. The stories of the members individually run through the whole story line, so pay attention to what is happening to whom and what is the atmosphere around him,
6. If you read the lyrics, it mostly has nothing to do with the story line as it almost never has anything to do with the girl as in this case (RM wanted the lyrics to go: I need you friend, but it didn't sound nice so he put: I need you girl),
7. Watch the videos in order to better understand the story line,
8. The characters in the story line have members names but their life stories in the story line are not related to the real lives of the members ... the only connection is that they are happy when they are together.

I think in order to understand the storyline you have to know who is who, I know it’s hard lol but maybe you can have a cheat sheet on the table to help you with the names. Another thing is probably reading lyrics first then turbo lol running it back for visuals in case you missed anything. For future storyline vids pay attention to pairs (once you know the names and faces well) its RM & V, JIMIN & J-HOPE , JUNGKOOK & SUGA , JIN IS SOLO/ALONE for a reason 👀 I’m hoping the comment section doesn’t give too much spoilers but Alex def raised interesting points. The story isn’t particularly about a significant other romantically but bts intentionally made it that way so that it’s relatable .

Even if you don't react to it, I would suggest watching some interviews, Run BTS, Bon Voyage or Burn the Stage etc to get more familiar with them. It's easier when you are not also trying to focus on lyrics, the MV etc. Either way do it at your own pace, you guys are doing great. You nice, keep going!

I love y'all's reaction to bts it always cheers me up and it's interesting to know y'all's input on the video. I just wanna help y'all out on certain things. If you're planning on going into the BU (Bangtan Universe) majority of the time the lyrics don't go with the video. So like for this video since it's the start of the BU the video doesn't go with the lyrics like that. So I feel like if y'all gonna to react to the BU to watch the lyrics first and then turn off the captains and watch the video again and pay attention to details. Also in majority of bts music when they say girl they don't exactly mean an actual girl or relationship like that it could mean other things as well but that honestly how you interpret it. Also the one that stabbed the dad was V aka Tae and the girl that the dad was beating was not his mom but his sister that's all I'm gonna say I don't wanna spoil anything. Guys there songs have nothing to do the the mv storyline its just that song is with that mv so all you have to pay attention to is the mv then you can see what the song says later sometimes the song does macth the mv but that is later on usually it doesnt in the beginning of the story line.....loved you reaction tho💜💜💜

Although you got certain members wrong you have the right idea. Also note that when the boys are with each other they're happy but when they're not together, you can see the struggles that they're going through.
I like how Alex pointed out Hoseok's scene with the pills - both of them and how it relates to addiction. I get why you would see it like that. Usually people would point out the bridge scene when they assumed Hoseok fainted. Yes, assumed. Because the pills are actually for a condition that his character has. After you guys watch Prologue, I'll explain more about it. But it's not spoiler because it's something that you guys should know from early on.

I totally understand where ya are coming from with the going back to regular music. I haven't listened to English or Spanish music in almost 4 months. I started with just loop and BTS popped up and omg being part of this fandom is amazing.
This song is pretty much special to armys and bts. The first ever music show win was with this song.
Someone said that BTS music is art. Like art, the person seeing it gets different feeling based on life experiences. This song can be interpreted in many ways but there is a storyline that leads you through the album. I love watching Allen's reactions or his facial reactions and listening to Alex comments. I like all the break up song from BTS, it's not cheesy but straight to your heart and very relatable. And they usually used symbolisme and wordplay. My favorite are Tear, Seesaw, 134340, Let Go, House of Cards and some others (sorry I don't remember the title)

I don't recall which interview I saw it in now but RM said this song was supposed to be I Need You Friends for the group but Big Hits thought girl sounded better and so the video was made with the guys but I need you girl and some words were changed to fit that premise.

I know by this time that you get comments about what to watch for. Remember that the song and the music video has none or little corelation. The song is a sole entity. The music video on the other hand which is part of the storyline is the moving video of their Webtoon series named “Save Me”. I highly recommend you guys read that in Webtoon. from my experience, when I watched the music video first, I was totally confused. But after I read the webtoon, then watch the videos again, I got it(maybe and somehow). In this song I need you it does sound like they are singing to a girl or about a relationship. But the music video and the story is totally different. From my understanding, this is about friendship, life choices and chances, fate, destiny , death and life itself.Do enjoy this journey. It will be confusing, but in the end, it will give you goosebumps. I get a lot of nightmares because of this hehhehe.

One note about the song is that the “girl” in the chorus was supposed to be the word “friend” but it sounded to weird so they replaced the word.
Edit: also another thing to note about BTS is that they normally speak to either army, a friend, loved ones, and etc. So even though a sons might be talking about a girl, it’s normally not the case. That’s why a love BTS because typical love songs are so repetitive and gets old for me. Here’s my grain of salt: Artists who’s songs are all about romantic relationships makes me think that all they think about is just that, even though that might not be the case, it’s still drain out and uncreative.

the members have always said that their music is for the audience and thus, for our interpretation... however you interpret it, will be the right version (esp considering that now you'll hear all about the BU storylineand just its deep and interesting but no one knows which theory is corect).. do your own thinking and take your time understanding this lovely angsty universe and remember that there are always more layers to bangtan's music than just a single theory or interpretation. The lyrics are "I need you girl" but I think in this case and often the "girl" is a symbol or metaphor for something else - their selves? each other? You probably noticed that no girls actually feature in the video. Or, in many of their videos period. It's not always about romantic love imo So proud of your detective skills so far lol you def got more than me the first time I started this haha

Now you know what a shock this was to the kpop world at the time. You don't usually see this type of story in kpop.
I love listening to you guys discuss the videos. But, gotta say, in the BU (Bangtan Universe) the story being told in the video is often very diff from the lyrics to the song. Not always. But often. They are telling 2 stories at the same time. Also, there is often a little sump'n sump'n at the end of BTS videos. Always play through to the very end. Next in the storyline is BTS Prologue.

Ok so being a new fan of BTS can be a struggle sometimes. I remember going through many of the same things when you think you know what a song is about and then find out what it means and it feels like your whole life is a lie 😆Honestly though that’s the fun part about it. Their music makes you think, feel, really listen and pay attention. The process, though painful at times, is rewarding 💜

I think I've read somewhere that the initial version of the song didn't have the world "girl" in the "I need you (girl)" part, because they weren't really talking about a girl in this song.
You captured the theme - the angst and anguish of a breakup. I'll add, females go through the same thing with a breakup. It's been a long time but I remember the heart break of saying goodbye. Come to think of it. It's not only the growing up process but prepares us for the death of loved ones. Hmmm. I went too deep for a pop song.
