You should look at Fremont Peak. The view isn't as fantastic for most of it, but from the peak it's impressive. That and the route is sometimes sketchy which would make great content.
😂only compared to Boulder. Bend is like an I-70 Colorado ski town without the good snow. White AF, trailheads packed full of sprinter vans, a mess of road construction, NIMBY-ethos reigns supreme. That’s just the town, the Cascades and high desert are sublime.
Bend was a sweet little town 40+ years ago and the sports (biking, skiing, fishing…) were accessible to pretty much anyone who could carve out a little recreation time. Now the sports have price tags that start at $5000 each. The area is now populated by those who participate in the sports and those who serve those who participate. The latter can’t participate. They don’t have enough money.
Speaking of Mancebo and Bend's brewpub vibe, worth (pun intended) noting that Worthy Brewing owner financed doping controls for Cascade Classic one year to confirm who he believed would DNS for the master's race. Worked like a charm.
With Smith Rock just north of Bend I would imagine there are a bunch of rock climbers living in Bend. I did river rafting on the Deschutes river 28 years ago. It was great.
Thanks for all the props re: Bend and also the Willamette Valley. But I can not believe you didn’t climb Hwy 242 to McKenzie Pass. When done from the west side it’s ~4,000’ of gain. And it’s closed to cars at this time of year!
my vote for next climb is the clingman's dome from bottom of g-burg it's about 20 miles 4k elevation and is epic or pikes peak idk i will ask when is it good to dropbar pump the engine for climbing? hard grades or something long and drawn out? Good Luck Mr. Gaimon
Lets get you a drafting team for these KOMs. I'm a big tall dude and can pull hard as heck for the first 3 or 4 minutes. Then we need someone who can do the next 15 minutes. Sagan didn't make the olympics so we could get him.
I am currently on year 3 in Bend Oregon. LOL... no love for the road cyclists! Gravel and mtb need only apply! Such a lonely place for a rodie. ❤PS, expect Pilot Butte to be taken within the month 🏆
What was your last year in The Cascade, and what was your time for this segment in the Peloton, anywhere near that Boulder, I mean Nederland guy Alex Howes?
Sorry if someone else has requested this. Is there someway to adjust your camera harness so you’re filming up the road and not your handlebars? Or maybe mount the camera on the handlebars.
Phil, did you try taking some 5-hour Energy before this attempt. It might help you get up this climb as you get older. ;-) I hope someone gets the joke.
@@worstretirementever it wasn't the days it was the promotions and chatter about it being the next Boulder. And the people transplants that live there now you interviewed.....all making Bend a bit of a cluster....it might be good to get around on bikes, and lets see come winter what that lil love you all mentioned happens. The traffic sucks!! oh but if you come from an already cluster then it is not.
Nailed it...going to be the "north" North California before long....Great vibe and all, but yuppies are surely over Phil. This is like the old days of doing it for doing its sake in recreating I feel, That can put you on edge of the in crowd yuch.... chill out dude, just enjoy, it's not a competition man...lol....thanks for showing that side.... Ride on, and take care.
Weird. Cycling, famous climbs and climbers, people who left Southern California, long time Bend cyclists.. Chris Horner doesn't get a mention? It's funny how many people live the grass is greener thing.. you go to Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and everyone is running from something and bringing whatever they are running from with you!! A bunch of people from Southern California exporting tiny bits throughout the country. I like Phil's tiny plates observation..if you want to move somewhere tour the city, no restaurants with tiny plates.. getting coffee and soy milk or almond milk are not on offer, good sign, nobody knows where an EV charging station is . good sign
Hey Phil, local Bendite here...props for not saying a single word about mountain biking in Bend...let's keep our 100s of miles of single track a secret hehe. Although the main trail and trailhead has your name on it!!
Yeah I think Bend is a 6.5/10 for road cycling (the rides are good but there's just a few) and 11/10 for MTB. Does that feel right? If you know my MTB history I'm not qualified to judge
Through a series of bad decisions, I live in Boulder. I mountain biked in Bend a few years ago and my thought was, “wow, Bend is like Boulder if Boulder didn’t hate fun”
@@worstretirementever yep, for sure. Not even sure I'd give it a 6.5 for roadies almost all out/back without any real climbs in sight...exception being old Mckenzie hwy outa sisters . My roadie years were spent on the SF peninsula (old la honda, tunitas creek, et al) and that area is an 11/10 for roadies.
Say what you want about Bend, or Boulder... but dude - you guys gotta single it up on the bike paths when passing strollers and going through tunnels. Not cool riding elitist style side-by-side on the Bend bike paths. You can do better.
You're not my real dad, I'm gonna marry a volcano!
extra points for the slo-mo shot of bunny hopping over goose poop. 6:11
Bend Colorado is the best joke ever.
Is this just a slip of the tongue? I don't get it
oic Boulder / Bend rivalry
The Three Sisters were recently seismically active. Mt St Helen’s is north on the Cascade Range.
I was about to comment about the irony of your TT position at the start, and you did it for me, well done sir.
“Take those bottle cages off” is the perfect line…..
I have to say when I see a dude with no bottle cages and no fanny pack it's game on. No one is out there like that unless they think they're fast
Bend: the town built by locals that can no longer afford to live there!
Sorry I missed you @ the Gran Fondo.
That’s true of all nice places to live in the US at this point. And also a lot of the mediocre places, too.
Was that Francisco Mancebo in a deer costume?
thats so funny
The Skyliners climb is a pretty fun one too! If you come back, please add that to your list :)
Thanks for the awesome review of Thump! We appreciate you, Phil!

You should look at Fremont Peak. The view isn't as fantastic for most of it, but from the peak it's impressive. That and the route is sometimes sketchy which would make great content.
These are my favorite travel videos. Keep up the good work Phil.
I have never heard anyone say that Bend Oregon is less expensive or less pretentious than anywhere else......
Boulder is a special place that way.
😂only compared to Boulder. Bend is like an I-70 Colorado ski town without the good snow. White AF, trailheads packed full of sprinter vans, a mess of road construction, NIMBY-ethos reigns supreme. That’s just the town, the Cascades and high desert are sublime.
everyone should have fallen out of the chair laughing on that. The anti cali transplant thing is so strong in OR
yall have to remember that phil lives in LA

This is the high quality content and comedy I'm here for.
Bend is an amazing town to bike in and around. A++

Exactly.... It WAS great. For the most part, too pretentious now.
MANY people from the Bay Area have moved to Bend. It’s hard to throw a rock and not hit one.
Thanks for all the props re: Bend and also the Willamette Valley. But I can not believe you didn’t climb Hwy 242 to McKenzie Pass. When done from the west side it’s ~4,000’ of gain. And it’s closed to cars at this time of year!
It’s closed to everyone as they repair it.
There's also the John Craig Memorial Ski Race and tour every March to ski up to the pass
Awesome, cool to see you come through here
Nice editing on this one. Impressive results.
Bend doesn't have a Pearl Street Mall with all the boutique outdoor gear shops.
nice to see you in my town. bummed i didnt see you climbing as i do this on the reg in the warmer months. the deer are a common occurrence, ha

Oregon love their rope tows. Some slopes on Mt. Hood still have them.
Ha, you rode right by my parents house. Bend is such a rad spot, glad you're enjoying and fun watching you explore it.
Really enjoyed watching this; very well done
You should run Pre's trail next time you are in Eugene! Have you considered the Mt Hood KOM?
That would be great
Just like a pro cyclist to break something on the short sharp hit. Great video keep it up love it every time I watch it!
just here to say, Phil, I really appreciate your sense of humour!
xo
Eric great triathlete better cinematographer. He and Paula are awesome. Lieto makes every broadcast better.
Spork is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.
Paula Findlay is a Canadian triathlon legend!
Bend, Oregon: I think Becca Fehringer and Chris Horner live there
Don’t get Phil started on Horner. Read Draft Animals if you are wondering. 😊
Very loudly did not mention Chris Horner
I freaking know the Sean Davis that's second place behind you!
As a fellow cookie aficionado, I said "ooh" out loud as soon as you took the cookie out of the bag.
Bend has become an entangled mess. I love the smells of the forests.
“Now these deer, they cost me at least five minutes” 🦌

but Sagan missed the olympics due to not getting results, so would he be good enough for this?
@@colinricketts1415 I agree it is a bit presumptuous to step up to THIS level after failing to make the olympics, but I believe in him.
@@JackMott I like the idea of Peter Sagan becoming Phil's lead out man, surely someone can make that happen
Since anything goes, just get an electric motorcycle out in front for Phil to draft off of.

"That mountain sure is a butte"
😂😂😂
Thanks everybody, youve been a great audience 👏
Hey Phil, will you have a video of the Finland Gravel?
What was your last year in The Cascade, and what was your time for this segment in the Peloton, anywhere near that Boulder, I mean Nederland guy Alex Howes?
I like his skin suit. Great colors and advert styling.
Those cookies need to get on Cookie cabin level
Hard to believe going on a decade of retirement already. Now I feel real old.
Whatever camera the chase car is using is pretty great.
So Phil - when are you coming to the Real Northwest and ride RAMROD?
Quality content for sure.
I just realized how much Phil looks like Damiano Caruso
wait till you find out about hood river oregon
Been there (long time ago)! Great town
What's the Cascade Classic, sounds like a very old race?
Bend sucks! Hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, Smokey, traffics bad, roads are bad. Expensive!
Sorry if someone else has requested this. Is there someway to adjust your camera harness so you’re filming up the road and not your handlebars? Or maybe mount the camera on the handlebars.
yes this chest cam was problematic. Won't happen again
Phil, did you try taking some 5-hour Energy before this attempt. It might help you get up this climb as you get older. ;-) I hope someone gets the joke.
Benoulder Coregon is my favorite.
Hey!! My favorite TTL crew hanging with my only ex-pro cyclist follow... 🎉
Everyone Will Ferrell knows who skis is dead
Wants to try Luge though, try it once your hooked, at least that’s what he’s been told
Too bad factor doesnt make a TT bike, this would be absolutely ideal fast bike territory
Go strong Phil !!!
Thanks Phil
Chris Horner's place of residence
Get Chris Horner to be your domestique next time. 🤩
4:20 nicee😂
i like how the black on your speedsuit looks like a diaper phil, please dont change it.
In general Bend road riding is not that good. A ton of car traffic and just shallow climbs. Far better gravel and XC MTB riding.
Not mad. Boulder does kinda suck. That's why I live in Golden.
TTL naysche!
Move to Bend. I'm not telling you all where I'd move. It isn't Bend. It is in Oregon. bye!
Bend was in many moons ago! People like you trying to find the “next Boulder” are making Bend suck
yo I was there 3 days

Phil and Chris don't really get along... or at least it certainly didn't seem that way in his book.
One of the worst people I ever raced with. Did him a favor leaving him out
I’m a fan. I watch the videos. I am a subscriber. Please design and wear a better outfit asap
I still don't know why Boulder sucks 🤔
The problem with most places nice , they are being ruined by people from California.
Bend sucks! Don’t move here

I don't think there's any good group rides in Oregon from what I can find...prove me otherwise?
That ride up Bachelor is sooo boring.
That's because no one cares about mountain biking.
If a KOM is known to be won using a peloton, it should be flagged. Same for ebikes.
Phil, you have to do another video apologizing for introducing Paula as "Eric's fiancee". She's one of the 7 best pro 70.3 triathletes in the world!
why not the backside of Bachelor
