I did a test today with multiple people, and I can positively confirm that the P4 can easily handle not one but two remote guests at the same time with no problem. the first guest can be brought on remotely via the Channel 3 smartphone input (via the 3.5mm TRRS to TRRS cable), such as by a simple cellphone call, or Facebook calling, or Google Voice calling. The second guest can be brought on remotely via the Channel 4 USB input (via a USB-C cable) with the P4 connected to my laptop and bringing on the other guest via the Zoom video conferencing app. Once everyone was on at the same time (total of 3 people - myself plus 2 remote guests), we were all able to hear each other's audio just fine, and the P4 recorded everyone's voices with no problem. I was pretty sure this was possible to do using the P4, but until you actually try it yourself you don't know with total certainty. Anyway, go ahead and try this yourself by having a remote guest on simultaneously both on Channel 3 and 4. Happy recording or podcasting! thanks so much for this specific piece of info! Exactly what I was looking for. I'll assume you answered this in your other video you linked but- on this use case you mention (2 guests, one phone and other computer), where was the final audio recorded? SD card? Thanks!
Thanks Casey this is good to know. One question on this, could you plug a USB Mic into the port instead ? (ie Rode NT USB Mini with USB-A to C adapter) ?? I'm just trying to achieve USB Mic to standard phone-call connected via 3.5mm port as I don't have a XLR mic. Thanks!
THANK YOU! I was so confused on how to properly set-up, transfer files, and simply use my brand new podtrak 4. This video answered all my questions. Watching all the way from Ghana ;)
Amazing product. I paired this with the Rode PodMic, and the Rode XLR Cable, the sound is so good! Definitely gave a boost to the quality of my content. Look no further if you're undecided, this tiny thing is amazing!
The tip about having the other volume knobs set to zero is very helpful. I'm going to try that because I am getting a low hum on my recordings and that may be part/all of my problem. Thanks for this video!
Correct, you absolutely need to have all un-used channels set to 0 (zero) gain, otherwise there will be unwanted background noise introduced to the recording. You're welcome!
Great news to report here! I tested the headphone-out ports on the PodTrak P4, and in fact YES they do mimic as a "line out" port! I was missing the Line Out port functionality from the Zoom H6 recorder that I don't have any more, but I can now confirm that any of the 4 headphone-in ports on the PodTrak P4 can act as a line out port! That means I can attach a 3.5mm to 3.5mm AUX cable into headphone-in port #1 on the PodTrak P4 (and make sure to turn up the headphone #1 volume to a suitable setting such as 6 or 7), and then have the other end of the AUX cable connected directly into my Canon DSLR camera's mic-in port. Then BAMMM! Audio recorded from the PodTrak P4 is being directly fed into the camera in real time, this means don't need to do any post audio synching after the fact! This is a great way to also use the camera for filming to capture the same audio from the PodTrak P4 as insurance audio in case the PodTrak P4 has a failure such as from a corrupted memory card file. I also tested my Rode Wireless Go lavalier mic system and that too worked equally well, except BETTER cuz it's a wireless system. That means I am also able to attach the Rode Wireless Go transmitter to say the headphone-in port #1 on the PodTrak P4 (make sure to turn up volume knob to suitable level), and the audio being recorded from the PodTrak P4 will be wirelessly fed to my camera in real time plus wirelessly. This works so well that I can just spit, LOL! It appears that any one of the four headphone-in ports on the PodTrak P4 can mimic as a "Line Out" port, so in effect, that's even better than the one singular Line Out port on the Zoom H6 recorder. Here's something else of interest I found out from testing that I did not expect. When I raise the volume on the headphone-out port, this actually raises the gain volume from my voice speaking into the microphone as well. I thought only adjusting the gain dial on any of the four channels on top of the P4 would adjust my gain volume. But in fact, the headphone-out volume also adjusts the volume of my speaking voice as evidenced on the camera video recording playback! I'm not sure how to deal with this, I'm guessing it's still better to use the primary gain dial knob on top of the P4 for adjusting my gain, but it appears using the headphone-in volume knob also works as well. By the way, on the Rode Rodecaster, I'm able to use the headphone-out port located on the bottom right of the device as a line out port, but for some odd reason, I'm only able to use the Rode Wireless Go lav microphone system for feeding wireless audio to my camera. A wired 3.5mm AUX cable doesn't seem to work, or at least I can't figure it out.
Couple things to mention: A USB-C data transfer cable to your laptop/computer is necessary to transfer audio files back and forth. Or you can also remove the SD card from the PodTrak P4 and insert into your computer to transfer files, just need to make sure you have an external SD memory card reader if your computer doesn't have it. For the compact PhotoTools camera bag, in addition to holding the PodTrak P4 and XLR microphone in the main pocket, it can also hold the the very compact Sony headphones on top and it all fits perfectly.

Thank you for this extremely helpful, detailed tutorial. Very much appreciated. Today I set up my PodTrak P4 as my audio interface and have hooked it up to my DBX286s pre-amp using a Behringer DI-box. I love it. Thanks again. Subscribed!
I've had my Zoom PodTrak P4 for awhile now. I've learned a few things along the way and I want to share some of my user experience with you. If you find this video helpful, consider giving a thumbs up and even subscribing to my channel. By the way, I actually own and use the PodTrak P4, I'm not given any products by affiliates for reviews. Also, I created a Facebook user group for Zoom PodTrak P4 users, here's a link if you're interested in joining: facebook.com/groups/3511099422276369/?multi_permalinks=3553736714679306¬if_id=1602338989582380¬if_t=group_activity&ref=notif
That's great, you're welcome, Mike! Make sure to turn on "Mix Minus" functionality in the menu settings because it's off by default. Also get the Rode SC9 smartphone remote connection cable (plus a USB-C cable for file transfer) and you're all set. Well, maybe get the Anker 20,000 mAh external battery pack, plus the Manfrotto PIXI tripod/clamp holder too. Geez, I could go on and on...haha! Oh memory card! Get the Sandisk Extreme Pro SD card...I use the 128GB size so it will hold lots of jingle tunes on the memory card for Sound Pad assignment. There are Amazon affiliated links for all the products mentioned. The links are found in the Video Description and my Pinned Comment.
@@caseyonlocation8257 Yeah, lots of accessories to consider! I'm planning on picking up the CableCreation cord since it's so much cheaper. I want to use it to connect my iPad to the P4. I'm hoping that will work even tho the manual says it's specifically for smartphones. Still, the iPhone and iPad are so identical I'm thinking it will work!
@@MikeLogsdonAlso The CableCreation cable link in my my Pinned Comment is less than half the price of the Rode SC9 cable, and will work for the PodTrak P4. Both the CableCreation and Rode cables are TRRS in design. TRRS means the cable has 3 black rings on the tip, whereas TRS only has 2 black rings. The PodTrak P4 requires 3 black rings on the tip, hence a TRRS to TRRS 3.5mm cable is required for proper audio connection. As a note, I will say that the Rode SC9 cable is much better made with heavier duty construction versus the CableCreation cable. Also, the Rode SC9 cable is the official cable recommended by Rode to use for their Rode Rodecaster Pro podcast device (which I also have as well). As for your iPad, it will either need a TRRS or TRS cable, one or the other or maybe both types will work for your iPad. I don't use an iPad so I don't know for sure (I'm an Android and Win-doze guy).
@@MikeLogsdonAlso Yeah, great, the CableCreation cable will work fine with the PodTrak P4 for the Channel 3 smartphone remote connection. Make sure to NOT insert a microphone into Channel 3 when using that channel for a remote connection...insert the mic into a different channel instead such as 1 or 2. Otherwise if inserting a mic into Channel 3 while also using Channel 3 for a remote connection, you will experience audio problems.
Outstanding Tutorial Casey!!! I learned a lot, appreciate the time you put into the video, don't think you missed anything. Be well and stay encouraged!!!
I've been looking for a case for my Zoom H6 and when I saw the case from Container Store 37:55 I though that might work so I went and bought it. It's got a little extra room on the height but I plan to go get some 1/2" foam and line the edges of the inside of the box. That should just about make it a perfect fit. While I was there I found the same type box but a little different dimensions that would also fit the P4 again with some 1/2" foam glued inside. Thanks for the find. This is way cheaper even with the foam than anything else out there and the plastic is very sturdy.
Hi. The audio to video sync issue is a real issue in field recordings because the Zoom P4 records 44.1hkz. But it doesn't record 48kHz. In other words, recording with three cameras and using three microphones connected to the mixer becomes difficult. The problem is then the synchronization of the audio recorded in the mixer with the videos recorded in the cameras. How to solve this?
I love your videos! I’m desperate for help. Just bought the Podtrak 4 after watching your videos. I am trying to send audio out of the podtrak 4 into my ipad with the trrs cable. The audio goes into an app on my ipad that streams live audio. This works great. But I want to split the audio coming out of the podtrak into another ipad that shoots video onto our TH-cam channel. What piece of equipment would I need to achieve that if it’s possible. Last question, I’m trying to use the podtrak 4 usb to hook into my laptop so I can play radio commercials from my laptop into the podtrack. I’m doing that and have set the mix minus correctly but the sound isn’t coming through. What could I be doing wrong
Casey, thank you very much for your detailed video on this really promising device. May I note, however, that it is not optimal to record the narration using a stereo microphone (a Zoom hand-held recorder probably?) as your voice is wobling in the stereo field all along and one can even feel dizzy listening to it. It's better using only a mono mic or summing the two channels of the stereo recording made using the stereo mic.
Thank you for the nice compliment, I appreciate it! Normally I would use one of my various Canon cameras and external microphones for filming a video. But for this video on the PodTrak P4 quick setup, I simply used my phone, which is the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Android smartphone. So the audio and video came straight out of my phone with no post processing added. My other later videos are using my Canon Vixia G60 4K camcorder (or Canon 90D DSLR) and either my Saramonic UwMIC9 wireless lavalier microphone or the Rode Wireless Go lav mic. I sometimes simply use my phone to record a video for the convenience. Thanks for watching the video!
I'm lovin' this machine so far. I'm trying to figure out how to inject audio from the PC with mix minus activated, right now I'm thinking the easiest way is just to inject it from the TRRS jack
Howdy, Kacey! Glad you like your new P4! I'm not exactly sure what you mean by injecting audio from the PC with mix minus activated. Have you gone into the P4 menu settings to enable "Mix Minus" functionality? I recall it's disabled by default, so you need to turn on Mix Minus on the P4 menu settings. Yes, you need a 3.5mm TRRS to TRRS smartphone cable for bringing on a remote guest using Channel 3 on the P4. In my Pinned Comment, I have a couple different smartphone cables you can order either by Rode brand or CableCreation brand. Thanks for watch the video, also thanks for liking and subscribing if you did so! By the way, I already approved you as a member of the Facebook PodTrak P4 user group!
@@caseyonlocation8257 thank you, yes I did enable mix minus for both USB and the phone. I'm coming from RME and they called it loop back, where I could play audio on my computer and have it enter both the mix and have it sent back to my remote guests. When I'm the host this isn't much needed but sometimes I'm the remote guest and have items to share without using Skype or Zoom's (the app not the hardware) screen sharing with audio function. For theme music etc there are the 4 pads but say we're commenting on an audio clip I could play it and have it get sent back on my channel to the host.
That's a good question, I don't have an answer. I used to have a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 audio interface with loop back feature via software, but I never used it. I only had that Scarlett for a short time and returned it in exchange for the Rode Rodecaster Pro because I was interested in the mix-minus functionality of the Rodecaster, plus the various built-in audio effects the Rodecaster offers. Anyway, why don't you go ahead and post your question in the Facebook PodTrak P4 user group? I'm guessing someone can give you an answer.
@@caseyonlocation8257 I'll give it a shot over there... The built-in mix minus and the pads were what got me. The portability was nice but we'd likely use the Zoom H6 in that case but now this allows us to still have someone remote while we're on-site (after the virus) as long as we have a phone or web connected computer. I'm guessing a worst case I could take an analog output from the RME and feed it as a phone if nobody is dialed in that way.
@@KaceyGreen The PodTrak P4 is excellent is for portability and built-in mix minus feature for remote guest recording while avoiding the un-wanted echo. The Zoom H6 recorder is also super nice, I had that recorder for a short time and made a few TH-cam how-to videos using the H6. But I ended up returning the H6 in favor of the P4. By the way, what is "RME"?
Hello. If you want to use the PodTrak P4 as an audio interface to say your computer, then connect a USB cable from the P4 to your computer. Then go to Menu, and scroll to access "File Transfer" by pressing the Enter (Record) button. Then your computer should recognize the P4 as an external drive for you to use as an audio interface on Channel 4 USB input. You need to purchase and use a USB cable to connect the P4 to your computer, because the P4 does not come with any cables included in the box. You can order the correct USB cable (either USB-C or USB-A) using my Amazon affiliated links either in the Description or my Pinned Comment. Thanks for watching, and thanks for liking and subscribing if you did so.
I have a question: I have a Samsung S 20; which connector would you recommend if I want to use the canal 3 of the podtrak p4? ( I don't have a FB account do I cannot have an access to your group) Thanks again for your fantastic job
Howdy. In my Pinned Comment, there is a link for the Google USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Adapter that will work with your Samsung S20 phone. It's the same adapter that I use for my Samsung Note 10+ phone. Works great! Go to my Pinned Comment and order one to use for the Channel 3 smartphone connection port on the right side of the PodTrak P4. Also, make sure that "Mix Minus" feature is enabled in the PodTrak P4 menu setting because it's off by default. Also, make sure to NOT insert a microphone into Channel 3 if using the smartphone connection function...insert the XLR mic into Channel 1 or 2 instead.
@@caseyonlocation8257 thanks a lot. I just received the Beast today. I did the settings in a second, thanks to your teaching. I will order the adapter and keep you posted.
Thanks for the video. Good content. not to sound repetitive but no one asked "quite exactly" like what my need is. Maybe you happen to know. It's an audio interface question. If I am on my android Samsung Galaxy S20 (its compatible - i checked the compatible phones list) and I go out of the P4 via the USB C output of the P4 and connect into the Android via the USB C input on my android, do you happen to know if I can use that live sound coming from the P4 as my audio input during a TH-cam Mobile Live stream? Nothing is being recorded and later uploaded. It's all Live Streamed audio. And furthermore, can I use all 4 of the P4 mic inputs simultaneous if this scenario would work? Thanks. - Reef of the East on TH-cam
If anyone is interested in the lowest rock bottom priced XLR dynamic type microphone with good reviews, the Behringer XM8500 mic only costs $23.00. Great job on this. I’d love to see how to load bumpers/interviews onto the sound buttons. And I’d like to see how to find the individual tracks after transferring a multitrack recording, but I just may have figured it after watching this.
Unfortunately, I did not cover those questions in this video. That will have to be a topic for another video because those are topics that require detailed explanation. Are you referring to adding various jingles, including a personalized intro and outro to the 4 sound pad buttons? If so, yes it's possible to do this. You will need to connect the PodTrak P4 to your computer via a USB-C cable. Then add a jingle or audio file directly to the SD memory card while you have the PodTrak "File Transfer" mode enabled which is found in the menu. Please note that if you want to add say a song to the PodTrak P4 via the memory card, the P4 will need to do a special conversion first before the audio can be used as a sound pad jingle. After you're done adding jingles and audio files to the SD memory card via the "File Transfer" USB connection to your computer, then go into the P4 menu and access the "Sound Pad" then choose A, B, C, or D for where you want a jingle assigned to, then press the REC (enter) button and then click on "Sound Assign" in the menu, then choose what jingle/audio file you want and press the REC (enter) button again. This process is slightly cumbersome but after some practice, you'll figure it out quickly. As for multi-track recording, the PodTrak P4 automatically records in multi-track mode in addition to a mixed stereo file. To access the individual multi-track mic channel recordings, the easiest way is to connect a USB-C cable from the P4 to your computer (or take out and insert the SD card into your computer). Then go into the P4 menu and access "File Transfer". Your computer should then recognize the P4 as an external hard drive. Open the letter drive folder that corresponds to the PodTrak P4, at the top of the folder you will see something that says multitrack, then open that folder and you will see various audio folders you recorded. Then open a folder and you will see all the various multi-track recordings that will be listed as "MIC1", "MIC2", "SoundPad", etc. It's very easy, you'll figure this out quickly once you open the various files and start digging around.
This Manfrotto brand universal smartphone clamp should work for clamping onto the rear of the PodTrak P4, which in turn can attach to a Joby table top tripod. Amazon link here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0169SORDW?pf_rd_r=N7ZNY63E44BG1FWPQ75M&pf_rd_p=edaba0ee-c2fe-4124-9f5d-b31d6b1bfbee
Do you really need to have the gain at zero for unused inputs, like 3 and 4? Wouldn't you just delete those unused tracks if there was noise in post or does it introduce noise in the other live tracks. Thanks and great video.
Thanks for the nice compliment. You really want to reduce those un-used channels to zero on the gain dial instead of having to possibly worry about fixing your audio in post. Thanks for watching!
@@caseyonlocation8257 just discovered this video, so my apologies for the delayed input here. I think what he is getting at is that since the P4 saves the recording not only to a stereo mixdown recording file, but also to individual track files, you could theoretically just grab the files for the tracks you used. Right? Presumably you would be correct if you are only grabbing the stereo mixdown file.
Hi Casey, how wide is the P4 at the point where you attach the mobile phone clamp? I know it's 112mm overall width, but that's only to accommodate the 4xXLR, I mean the main body width. BTW, still awaiting delivery of mine but would like to be prepared.
Great video to watch, even for the second time. Question - on the Shure SM7B, while it is a Dynamic mic, do you suggest using the 48V Phantom Power option?
Yes, the PodTrak P4 can be powered in multiple different ways including a USB-C cable connected to the DC-5V port or the USB port going into a laptop/computer USB port (while having no AA batteries inside the P4). PodTrak P4 can also be powered via an external rechargeable power pack. Thanks for watching!
Hi Casey, thanks for the video. If I get to record a zoom call (an app) using the P4, does it mean that I can record both tracks on P4 and still have a backup recording through zoom's (the app) record meeting functions? I presume that then my track (host) will be recorded directly and therefore with higher quality. Cheers!
Great video! Is there any adverse effects of using a TRS 3.5MM cable? I just tried it and the P4 seemed to record the audio from my iphone just fine. Do you suggest a TRRS because of Zoom's recommendations, or for another reason? (Further clarification: I had one end of the TRS cable plugged into the P4's phone port, and the other end connected to a 3.5MM to Apple Lightning adapter, into my phone)
Howdy and thanks for your question. A TRRS to TRRS (with 3 black rings on both tips) is the correct cable to get and use in order to work with the PodTrak P4 for connecting a smartphone into Channel 3 for remote recording. Typically a TRRS cable is required for a smartphone, whereas a TRS cable is required for other items, such as a camera. I cannot comment on the validity of what you described for your own setup, I can only say what is the correct method. Thanks for watching the video. Also thanks for subscribing if you did so.
@@caseyonlocation8257 Thanks for the additional information. I can verify that a TRS (two black rings on both tips) works just fine for connecting a smartphone (I used an iPhone XR). I was able to connect into channel three with the cable and capture audio from a Zoom call perfectly. No audio degradation or issues with the file transfer. Just some helpful information that might come in handy for anyone else curious. Thank you!
@@theshortboxpodcast4182 You're welcome! You should also check to see if you are able to use that same setup for recording a phone call from a remote guest on Channel 3. That is the true test. Also make sure to go into settings menu on PodTrak P4 to enable mix-minus to avoid echo feedback from person calling in remotely via Channel 3 smartphone input. Please like and subscribe to my channel for more content!
@@caseyonlocation8257 Thanks for the encouragment. I was able to make a phone call with a remote friend using Channel 3, with my TRS cable! I also noticed that I did NOT get echo feedback with my Mix-Minus setting DISABLED. (weird, right?). I wonder if it has to do with my iphone dongle adapter, maybe that converts the signal to TRRS? Just to recap my set-up: One end of the TRS cable plugged into Channel 3 smartphone input (on the side of the P4), other end plugged into an iphone adapter dongle, that is plugged into my iPhone XR. Mix-Minus DISABLED. Regular phone call to remote guessed registered in the P4 with no distortion or echo feedback. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts. Thank you so much!
Casey! This is an excellant review. Thank you so much as i was wondering what is trrs cable. I do have a issue, and not sure whether you have solution for that. My friend does not want to use a headphone, so i have to connect a speaker to 1 of the 4 headphone outputs. As headphone output copies all input signals, my friend heard his voice in speaker and has echo issue. With TRRS connection or usb connection to zoom podtrak p4, is there anyway i can do smartphone/usb connection to zoom and an external speaker at the same time, to avoid the echo issue? Same thing for usb-c connection to pc. if you have any solution, i will be highly appreciated. i am stucked here and may need to return this item. I find that TRRS/USB volume is very low, so input has to boost to 10. Hence, the speaker needs to turn up high, which further worsen the echo issue.
Thank you for the nice compliment, I appreciate it! I'm not sure what your setup is like. Are both of you recording locally to the PodTrak P4? Or is the 2nd person being recorded remotely using the Zoom video call app? Is your friend monitoring his own audio using an external speaker plugged into the headphone port on the P4 cuz he simply doesn't want to use a headphone? But the speaker is causing an echo? If using headphones there should be no echo whatsoever, that's the ideal method to use versus an external speaker. Even using a simple $10 wired headphone will work, doesn't have to be anything fancy.
@@caseyonlocation8257 hello Casey, thank you for your reply! Yes one person is plugged into input 1 of zoom podtrak p4. The other person is calling through wechat and the call is connected by a smartphone trrs to zoom p4 input 3. The reason why input 1 user does not use a headphone because he finds it looks ugly on TH-cam live streaming. Yes, using headphone is the simplest and quickest solution. But would you aware any other method? I am looking for usb c split into 2 trrs. Would you have any experience on that? By doing that, one trrs goes to speaker and it will be only the voice of remote guest only. thanks
@@muccku7231 So the only "live" person recording into the P4 is on Channel 1? And the only other person is on Channel 3 via WeChat? So if the Channel 1 user is not using any headphones, that means he cannot hear himself and cannot hear the person on Channel 3. That's just bad news all around. Using an external speaker will sort of work but is not ideal because the person on Channel 3 will be distracted by the external sound from the speaker, plus both persons may hear a reverb effect. If the person on Channel 1 thinks that thick and heavy headphones are ugly and uncomfortable, I can understand that. But why not just use a simple wired headphone, the type that used to come free with a new smartphone purchase, get a black color one and cut off one piece of the headphone so that only 1 earphone cup is inserted into the ear to be more discrete. That would be my best suggestion. This is really making a mountain out of a mole hill as the saying goes. :-)
I connected the Zoom P4 to the computer but no sound from the headphones? I can hear my own voice but no sound from videos I open from youtube? I'm sure I have the sound settings right, I can't hear my friend in Discord, but I can listen to my own voice.
External battery is not required, just convenient to use to offer much longer battery life versus using 2 AA batteries inserted into the PodTrak P4 which will die quickly. Zoom Corporation sells an optional $20 brick wall AC charger that is now finally in stock at some retailers. You can also use a decent quality USB cable to plug into the computer for power, but there is a certain correct order that needs to be followed to work correctly. It's important to note that no USB cables are supplied in the box, so you will need to use your own or buy one. In my Pinned Comment, I have links to purchase Anker brand USB cables that should work. Thanks for watching the video. Also, thanks for liking and subscribing if you did so.
Important: For better audio quality when making remote calls using Channel 3 with your smartphone, always use a VOIP app instead of using your cellular provider signal such as from Verizon or Sprint, etc. VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) audio quality is far better such as using Zoom/Skype, Facebook calling, WhatsApp calling , Google Voice calling, etc. Scroll down to Going Over The Top for more details on this topic, link here: www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-make-your-cell-phone-calls-sound-better
Hi Thanks for a good review video. I've a query - When I switch the Device ON it is asking me to set up the date and time. How can I set it up so that this screen doesn't come up every time I switch ON?
Howdy, thanks for watching. Are you asking why the date/time screen keeps showing up every time you turn on the P4? If so, that's not normal. Did you press the Enter button (Record button) to save the settings? You only need to set the date/time once, that's all. Thanks for liking and subscribing to my channel for more content!
Hello how's it going. I was wondering when you have everything setup and you're doing a livestream is the Zoom P4 able to receive audio from the stream, therefore i'm able to hear the live feed through my headphones versus the laptop?
Howdy, thanks for your question. I have not yet done any live streaming myself. I don't think I have anything interesting that a live audience would be interested in hearing me yack about...maybe in the future, LOL! So although I can't answer your question from experience, it sounds like it should be possible.
EDIT: As an idea, you're welcome to join my PodTrak P4 user group on Facebook. There are 85 members on that page, maybe one of them can answer your question. Link here to the FB group: facebook.com/groups/3511099422276369
@@caseyonlocation8257 ok thanks. So minus the livestream part, is the Zoom P4 capable of receiving live audio feed from your laptop. For example when I’m doing a zoom chat I hear live audio feed from my laptop, I’m wondering how to hear it through the Zoom P4 through my headphones?
@@kebulanalimoor8586 Howdy again. You would connect the PodTrak P4 to the laptop using a USB-C cable from P4 to laptop (the cable end going to your laptop can be the usual USB-A, or whatever). The P4 only has a USB-C port for USB connection. Then enable Channel 4 USB channel on P4 to record the Zoom meeting audio from the laptop to the P4.
I found this Manfrotto brand smartphone clamp and Manfrotto tripod legs that should work well with holding the PodTrak P4. Amazon link here: Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod Kit with Smartphone Clamp: amzn.to/3frdHVf
Having to turn the channels down because of noise being introduced makes no sense...on playback surely you can mute those channels...are you saying that the noise from a channel with no mic bleeds into another channel that has a mic? It sounds like you're lumping all the tracks together
Yes. connect the TRRS cable and use a live stream app that lets you use an audio input. you will lose that channel designed for phone user because it only outputs audio when you have it switched to phone.
The PodTrak P4 can be very finicky about the type of file that can be used. The P4 only accepts audio file that is in 44.1 kHz 16 bit MP3. If the audio file you are trying to download to the P4 is different you may need to either convert the file using Audacity app, or the P4 might prompt you to convert the file before the P4 can utilize it. This can definitely be a hit or miss process depending on the type of file you are trying to use. If you are struggling with this process, don't feel bad, it can definitely be challenging.
The Zoom PodTrak P4 is designed to accept only microphones with an XLR input via an XLR cable. Maybe there is a way to do so using an adapter of some sort, but basically I would have to say it's not possible. Even if it were possible, using a USB mic would be less than ideal. The reasons are too detailed to explain in this comment. Just go get a very budget $25 dynamic XLR type of microphone and that will work fine. $100 price range is sort of the sweet spot for a quality XLR dynamic mic for good audio quality. Although you can spend much more, it's not necessary.
@@PropertyonFire You're welcome. Audio recordings take up relatively little space, unlike shooting videos that take up a huge amount of memory card space, especially at 4K quality. Although I use a 128GB size card myself on my Zoom PodTrak P4, which will last for many hours, I recommend for you a 64GB size which will last for more than several hours of recording, certainly way more than 2 hours. I recommend the "Extreme Pro" series because it offers the fastest transfer rate speed possible for UHS-1 card speed versus the even faster UHS-2 speed card but costs much more. Here's a link to the 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SD card that only costs $17.99 on Amazon: amzn.to/2UHEMK7 (this is an affiliated link copied from above description and will benefit me so I can continue to provide more useful videos in the future, thanks for your support!).
You can just use a simple USB-C cable connected into the PodTrak P4's "DC 5V" port on the left side, and the other end of the cable goes into your laptop/computer for power. Or get a rechargeable USB battery bank and connect that same USB-C cable from the PodTrak on one end and the other end going into the battery bank. Works great.
@@caseyonlocation8257 Hi. Thanks for the very detailed video! I’m also wondering if this can be plugged into the wall with a appropriate adapter. The Zoom website specifically says a battery pack similar to what you say in your video as well.
@@MikeLogsdonAlso Howdy! I might be wrong, but I don't think Zoom has released a wall AC brick yet for the PodTrak P4. ZOOM Corporation seems to be slow in releasing any accessories for the PodTrak P4, including the Zoom BTA-2 Bluetooth adapter that is forever on "pre-order" at all the various retailers. So in the meantime, just get and use an external battery pack with a decent usb-c cable going into the 5V-DC port on the P4.
@@caseyonlocation8257 ok thanks for that. I was really hoping to use a wall outlet but it is what it is! I think in another comment you said you could plug it into your computer too. I’d be willing to try that too. Have you had success with that?
@@MikeLogsdonAlso Yes you can have the PodTrak P4 plugged into the computer USB port for power. However you must do it in the right order but I forget which sequence is correct. You must either power on the P4 first before plugging into the computer USB port, or the opposite. If done in the wrong order, this won't work. We had this same discussion on my Facebook PodTrak P4 user group. I believe the expanded 57 page user manual on the Zoom Corporation website explains this in detail. Since I never rely on the computer USB port for power, this is not relevant to me. I prefer using an external battery pack. Even a tiny 5,000 mAh battery can power the P4 for many hours.

Watch my other video here for more detailed info: th-cam.com/video/xFYVjI0aLo4/w-d-xo.html
thanks so much for this specific piece of info!

I am just DELIGHTED to have found your channel!! Your analysis is so thoughtful ♡♡♡

Great, glad you like Flavio!
For the compact PhotoTools camera bag, in addition to holding the PodTrak P4 and XLR microphone in the main pocket, it can also hold the the very compact Sony headphones on top and it all fits perfectly.

amazing content brother i really needed to see this. it helped me so much thanks
Glad it helped
Thanks for the great rundown Casey! I'm confident I have my P4 set up the right way now.
@@caseyonlocation8257 I picked up the CC cable since it's so short so hopefully it'll work for what I need.
Great job! Very helpful.

Outstanding Tutorial Casey!!! I learned a lot, appreciate the time you put into the video, don't think you missed anything. Be well and stay encouraged!!!
That's a lot of great, great information. Thanks for the guide which I will watch again, once I get PodTrak P4.
Thankyou for very kind introduction video!
Take care yourself Casey! - from S. Korea
Haha, that's great! Glad you found something useful. Thanks for watching the video, and thanks for subscribing if you did so.
Great content. Just hot it for my birthday, hopefully my podcast will have a bump.
Very complete. Everything is there. Thanks 😊

Excellent video! Thanks for sharing such a piece of great information.
What could I be doing wrong
thank you.....this was a great presentation.....you are a very good teacher....and i learned a ton of cool things......cheers!

Very helpful tutorial. Thank you!
Thanks for the nice compliment, and thanks for subscribing if you did so.
Thank you. Very helpful!
You're welcome!
Great video. Just what I needed. Thanks!!
Thanks for your video. Question on the clamp… have you had issues with the clamp attaching over the SD card slot?
You were amazing wow thank you so much
I'm lovin' this machine so far.
By the way, what is "RME"?
hello great channel and good information. im having trouble figuring out how to use to podtrak as a audio interface. could you help explain? thanks!

Very informative video!
Hi Casey, will I be able to record up to four hours of conversation on the 128gb SD Card you pinned in the description? Thank you!
Hey 👋🏽 great video
Does it connect to iPad Pro? And can I play music to clubhouse?
Hi Casey, this is a great video!
Any chance you can put some chapters/time markers in the description?

IMO, dynamic mics (like sm7b) don't need any phantom power.
Are you able to power the P4 via your computer? Or can it only be powered by AA batteries or external batteries?
Yes, the PodTrak P4 can be powered in multiple different ways including a USB-C cable connected to the DC-5V port or the USB port going into a laptop/computer USB port (while having no AA batteries inside the P4). PodTrak P4 can also be powered via an external rechargeable power pack. Thanks for watching!

Can I use this P4 to record live face-to-face interviews? Thanks
If the BTA-2 bluetooth is used for remote calls on phone, does that make port 3 available for use?
@@theshortboxpodcast4182 Well...you're doing everything wrong but getting it right, haha. So keep on doing it! Glad it's working for you!
Will using a dongle improVe audio quality bro}??
Will power drop immediately switch to AA seamlessly??
Do you have to use an external battery or can you plug the usb-c cord into a wall charger, like you would use to charge your phone?

@@caseyonlocation8257 Thanks for your revert. I found out the problem. I had to leave in the batteries for internal memory to save Date and time.
@@BhaskarNatarajan8055 That's great!
Hello, my recordings aren't being saved it just says "No Files!"
Up to what capacity card it allows??
I found this Manfrotto brand smartphone clamp and Manfrotto tripod legs that should work well with holding the PodTrak P4. Amazon link here: Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod Kit with Smartphone Clamp: amzn.to/3frdHVf
Having to turn the channels down because of noise being introduced makes no sense...on playback surely you can mute those channels...are you saying that the noise from a channel with no mic bleeds into another channel that has a mic? It sounds like you're lumping all the tracks together
how to transfer recorderd files from p4 to iPhone ? Please help 😃
Hei can you livestream on mobile Android phone with this device?? :)
Thanks in advance
Yes. connect the TRRS cable and use a live stream app that lets you use an audio input. you will lose that channel designed for phone user because it only outputs audio when you have it switched to phone.
If you dont format..you get no audio..even if it says its recording....nightmare.
I'm having trouble adding sound to the soundpad. I keep getting a "Invalid File!" error message, can you explain how to do this?
I'm using an MP3 file. Do the sound effects have to be WAV?
The PodTrak P4 can be very finicky about the type of file that can be used. The P4 only accepts audio file that is in 44.1 kHz 16 bit MP3. If the audio file you are trying to download to the P4 is different you may need to either convert the file using Audacity app, or the P4 might prompt you to convert the file before the P4 can utilize it. This can definitely be a hit or miss process depending on the type of file you are trying to use. If you are struggling with this process, don't feel bad, it can definitely be challenging.
Can you use a usb microphone on the podtrak p4?????
The Zoom PodTrak P4 is designed to accept only microphones with an XLR input via an XLR cable. Maybe there is a way to do so using an adapter of some sort, but basically I would have to say it's not possible. Even if it were possible, using a USB mic would be less than ideal. The reasons are too detailed to explain in this comment. Just go get a very budget $25 dynamic XLR type of microphone and that will work fine. $100 price range is sort of the sweet spot for a quality XLR dynamic mic for good audio quality. Although you can spend much more, it's not necessary.
What's the largest memory card it will take?
512gb sdxc, cl 10 above
@@DimplePoji thank you.
Any idea on the maximum size of the SD card?
PodTrak P4 can handle SDXC 512GB maximum. Thanks for watching!
@@caseyonlocation8257 thanks! Which size do you recommend for say an hour or two of recording?
Help! I Can’t find a power cord for it or usb cord
You take a unnecessary amount of time to explain things
Just fast forward then
