I like the Rep from Tremec. He seems to be a true enthusiast and knows his stuff and he didn't try to shove some marketing bullshit on us. Great job guys.

Kudos to Michigan's Tremec for sending a guy who knows the product inside-out. Too often I see sales/marketing guys on JLG who just repeat bland talking points, and don't know squat about the product. Great video!!

Just have to say the tremic 5 speed in my 02 GT Mustang was excellent!! I put intake/exhaust/larger injectors/ecu tuning/electric fuel pump/coil over kit and sticky rubber on it back in the day and the transmission held up very well under some hard driving. It came with a nice heavy clutch already. All I did was install a short throw shifter cause hitting third from 2nd was awful. But, I never had a problem with it ever !!

he could pull off some kind of event for such im sure... with a car show etc to go along with it.. im sure a few calls is all it would take and i bet it would be a hit. and could even become a yearly thing if jay wanted. probably more work than what he would want to do tho.

    • @websuspect

+Chris c he could find people to help with it. I'm high spectrum autism also build computers as a hobby fix tractors thingd around the house. i feel disrespected by company's like apple, Levis, RCA.move.overseas, say forieners are better workers collude with communists. i contacted lock and stick to tell them he promoted their product. they were the nicest people.

I retrofitted one of those Tremec TR-3550 units in my 1963 Studebaker Avanti, and I did it primarily to have the benefit of the overdrive. I still have the original transmission, and it could go back into the car if ever needed. But the car sure is a whole lot nicer to drive now, especially on the interstate.

Great quick explanation, a lot less of a sales spiel and more of a quick and dirty 'why this brand works'. Looking forward to more parts reviews.
Its hard to deny how different today's performance market would be without the Fox Mustang. So easy to build fast and plentiful, hard to deny that that energy and huge aftermarket helped make today's big 3 pony's possible.

  • @Moist_Handshakes
    @Moist_Handshakes 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Good discussion on transmission fluid changing. It's pretty easy, and for some new autos, there's no need to change the filter since it's just a wire screen for catching large debris, so easier than engine oil in that way, and harder since you may have to lift the entire car to access the drain.

    • @TheBrokenLife

I work in the truck industry in Europe and almost everything related to transmission is Zf stuff and yeah it's so a pain to work with them sometimes, I own a few Bmw with zf manual and autos transmissions, sometimes I'd rather have the rattle from the Getrag than the Zf shifter stucked in front of 5th or the fear of a blow clutch pack in the 4hp-22 after smog test..

  • @jsnyara

They're 100% right. The biggest regret i had was not just buying a new transmission from tremec. I got some shitpile off of craigslist for $2200 and had to spend $1200 on top of that just to get it working right. When i could have just bought a brand new magnum for $3000.

God, it makes me think of the Jaguar. A 2000 XJ8. San Francisco hills. Something failed in it..a part that should have been metal to begin with. So, I get the rebuilt. Labor will get you. Rebuilt lasted me about two years. No, actually, only a few months. One section got a crack in it, and it turned out other Jags had the same problem with their rebuilts. So, that was covered, being under a year. It was interesting to look at the inside of the section that failed. It's like an ant farm for the way the walls were designed for fluid movement. So, I babied the repaired one. Then that transmission lasted me two years. Brutal. Had to give up the car.

I've been seriously considering swapping a TKO 600 into my early Nova that currently has a 350TH in it. While the Bare Transmission is about $2450 from Summit Racing, the cost to do a complete conversion is in the neighborhood of $4500-$5000, depending upon what parts you use to complete the conversion...

If you like cars that are a vision, a dream of a man that brings it to live bit by bit in decades you will like this, if you don't now about it already. Thank you for your videos, even with your :) "american point of view" :) they are some of the best you can find in the internet.

I love your Toyota 2000GTJay!!!!! Epic!!!!! Unique!!!!!! Iconic!!!!! $1,000,000.00-$2,000,000.00. Average going price for one. I love the classic, nostalgic, retro, vintage, historic, old cars for, well always have, but specially the last 10-15 years or more now. I've always loved new cars but the classics as well or even more so. I love ALL cars, old, new, domestics, imports, everything!! Since '74, specially since the 80's and 90's. I think Jay and I have similar taste in cars. We like cool and unique kinds of cars that most wouldn't consider and then we like other cars that most would consider. I think we see eye to eye on everything, specially on cars! If I had money like uncle Jay I would do the same. As a matter a fact when I get my money I will. Thanks "uncle" Jay. We appreciate you! Thanks for the Garage show. Please don't ever stop. Just keep on doing your show always!!!!! We LOVE it! Hey Jay would you be willing to adopt a son? LOL HAHAHA, just kidding! Or am I? LOL Thank you Tremec for making super outstanding transmissions.

Hi jayI have one question for your tremec guy i'm looking if its possible to hook up this either t-5 or tremec box to an awd casing so I can turn my 1973 capri into an awd system I do have all of the component but the original 5 speed that on it would not be strong enough to withand a stronger version of the 2.9 liter specially the ford 2.9 liter cosworth 24 valve version of it like your show the jay garage well done

I like the crate engine approach everything you need to make it work standalone in a box this makes it more likely to get your project finished

It's just hugely expensive. Like the Blueprint Engines you see on the Motortrend channel are like $20k for 500hp. No thanks.

+Maxwelhse crate motors are less than 5k. 20k sounds like they are including labor or other stuff.

Nate is a great person and very knowledgeable about Tremec BUT on the TKO 5spd he only indicated that there are 3 SHIFTER LOCATIONS WHEN THERE IS ACTUALLY 4 LOCATIONS.... Yes, that large 4-bolt cover on top of the main transmission case cover that holds the 3 gear selector shafts is where a front mounted shifter can be located! Now, please don't anyone bet against me on this, because as a former TKO Technician of a ELITE TREMEC DEALER ( 1 of 13 in the world at that time around 2010 ) I was responsible for installing FRONT SHIFTERS on TKO TREMECS that left our distribution/research center, including more than a few that went to Roy Brizzio's custom car building shop. I left that ELITE DEALER in 2013 because my dad had a heart attack and could no longer care for his estate by himself so I relocated there over 200 miles away.... Like I said Nate is a great guy ( I think I cohosted the Tremec Booth once in 2009 at ZMAX DRAGWAY in Charlotte NC in 2009 ) but for some reason tonight upon seeing this video I felt the need to correct the oversight of the FRONT SHIFTER LOCATION because I am very proud of the status of the work I did using this location.... 😎

Manuals are pretty straight forward. Gear stacks and shift forks essentially. Find a cheap manual and split the case on it. Put it back together then see if you can turn the input shaft by hand while it's in gear. If you can, you put it back together right. It don't take much to figure one out and in my opinion hands on is the best way to start with something thats cheap or garbage.
Automatics on the other hand, they are powered by witchcraft.
