    Fun fact: Bernie was arrested back in the 60‘s for protesting against segregation. He was also involved in the civil rights movement. You probably haven’t heard that on any corporate news channel.

      Yes, I've seen his supporters say this everywhere, all the time. And if you want some advice, the more you wave around the "he marched with black people in the 60s", it makes it look like you're just using it as black cred and don't actually care about the actual act.
      He shouldn't be applauded for doing the right thing, he should be applauded for continuing his effort well into the 70s, 80s, 90s, and so on.

    I'm still waiting for an openly atheist candidate.
    Edit- Just as a point of fact: many people thought JFK couldn't win because he was Catholic. Same for Obama because he wasn't white but also relatively young(even though he was 5 years older than Roosevelt when elected). I can even cite Trump as an example because he is misogynistic, racist, xenophobic, and a huge piece of shit in general. Even though we thought we had progressed more than to elect a troll, it still happened.
    We grow as a nation and get closer to a global civilization every time some ridiculous, but well established, precedence is challenged. I'm looking forward to the day when race, sexual orientation, and religious affiliation not only aren't considered, but honestly don't affect the office. The best candidate should be the best for our country and by extension most, if not all, of the citizens within it. We just need to try and stop the backsliding into more garbage fires like Trump.

It doesn't mean they shouldn't run to at least get people talking about the idea and moving our country forward. Our government is supposed to be secular, yet only people with a belief that fantasy is fact are viable options? That must be why Trump even had a chance, because reality shouldn't be subject to alternative facts.

    • @EdwardThimbleHands
      @EdwardThimbleHands 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Jared Budler No, I'm not saying that anyone should have to broadcast their religion or the lack of it, but since everyone already is pandering I'd like equal representation. I think of it like releasing their tax returns, it doesn't change the way they would govern but it gives people insight about what matters to that candidate. It would be nice if there were more atheist openly running to normalize it though. The public cares about sexual orientation, marital status, and all kinds of other things that don't influence their competence in the position so if they are going to be talking about all of that, they might as well finish the resume.

    • @jamesburgess2k
      @jamesburgess2k 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tba Zizou that's what you expect from people who aren't political savvy. But what they lack in nuance, they make up in attitude. They are not afraid to call out bs and pandering, even if it makes an awkward situation during the interview. Many professionals interviewers willfully let politicians deflect questions in not to turn them away, but the Breakfast Club doesn't care for formalities.
      That's mainly why they're popular with black voters, they aren't as "political correct" and their lack of filter makes them likable.

    • @jamesburgess2k
      @jamesburgess2k 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tba Zizou they definitely could, but that's not why they interview people. They care more about their personalities and true intentions. It's more like "other media outlets are going to dig deep in their policies; let's do something different and focus on their character".
      Also, they do bring on guests like Angela Rye to simplify the political climate of the month and go into that detail that they aren't knowledgeable on. Not as great as bringing in someone as an interviewer, but their a gossip radio station, they earned their listeners trust by them being authentic, it'll be hard to do that for a guest interviewer that's rarely used throughout the year.

    This idea of apologizing for slavery and reparations bugs me. Everybody is only responsible for what they do, not what others do; just because I share a characteristic with someone, that doesn't mean that I am responsible for their actions- neither good or bad. I don't take credit for the good things that other people have done, so I won't take the blame for them either. To be fair, there are people out there who want to take credit for the good that people who share their race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc. do, but don't want to take the blame for the bad, and that is just hypocritical. You can't take credit for all the diseases that white people helped eradicate without taking the blame for committing genocide on the Native Americans; you can't take credit for all the inventions that men have developed without taking the blame for all the rapes men have committed. Each person is only responsible for their individual actions- good or bad. We also cannot be defined by one single characteristic (race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.).
    Also, in terms of reparations, that is a bad idea on its own, for numerous reasons. Our country has wronged so many groups that we would go bankrupt trying to pay everyone. Even if we decided to pay people that the country has wronged, black people would be second on the list, because slavery is horrible, but not worse than genocide; I think there is an argument that what the country did to Native Americans is worse that what they did to black people. And how far back do we go? Since he country's founding? Since European colonization? Every crime committed since the beginning of time, committed by anyone who shares any characteristic with us (race, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.)? That said, the idea of paying people is wrong-headed to begin with, for many reasons. The idea that we can pay off our crimes is kind of insulting; if I punched you in the face and gave you a dollar, and then said we were all good, wouldn't you be pissed off? How much money is being enslaved worth? Does the amount of money even exist? Also, the people that would be paid didn't experience slavery- the people that did are long dead. There is an argument that people now have to deal with the after-effects of slavery and Jim Crow, but how is that solved by handing them a few bucks? It seems like a cop-out to pay them off while doing nothing to address the on-going problems that those groups face.
    Instead of reparations in the form of a pay-off, why don't we try to set up a system to correct many of the on-going wrongs. Use whatever money we would hand people to instead invest in poor schools, give black people business and home-loans, and address racial disparities in criminal justice; black people nowadays never experienced slavery, but they do deal with underfunded schools, red-lining, and unfair treatment in the criminal justice system. If you give poor people money (no matter their race), it will often be spent quickly to meet the most immediate needs and wants, without it ever really changing the system that works against them. Reparations would benefit people in the short-term, and only superficially, and I think that there are better ways to address the problems that exist in the system with regards to race.
