That was the law stepping in to be like "actually, yes, that's illegal for kids rated games". Unfortunately for us, the main target of lootboxes isn't so much children as it is people with crippling addiction problems, so when they put those in games they usually don't care so much about the age rating. Still, apparently you can still sell fifa to little timmy though so I guess the ratings boards still have shit to do.
@@MrZer093 This is uhh...such strange logic it hurts. Let me correct you here: "Nintendo and GF have to play by those rules or else risk less sales. It sucks but it’s understandable on their end." What you actually mean to say is: "Nintendo and GF, rules or otherwise, are greedy soulless suits who have lost touch with reality and their old way of doing things, and like many companies nowadays, choose instead to forego the days of simply making a profit and paying employees a living wage, but now seek only to satisfy their unjust greed and line their pockets while shaving as many corners and investments of effort as humanly possible." My friend, the day 1 sales ALONE would net A profit. Why cant these companies just make A profit anymore? Why cant they stop grabbing at every tiny little penny? Why cant these companies just pay their employees a living wage? Oh, they pay their CEOs and taxes? The CEOs dont need that big of a paycheck, and while I can forgive the logic of "they are the boss so they get the biggest bucks", what I cant forgive are the unjustified and undeserved company bonuses those bastards get. If they stopped paying them bonuses and the bosses got less of a paycheck, they could afford to pay their employees better, put more money into the products they make, AND THEN SOME SINCE THESE ARE MAJOR BILLIONAIRE COMPANIES MIND YOU, *THEY WOULD STILL MAKE A NET GAIN!!* Pokemon, the HIGHEST, GROSSING, MEDIA, FRANCHISE, is the SAFEST FRANCHISE EVER for making a normal profit! None of this is understandable, no matter what company you talk about. By need, I mean "they dont need this at all, they just exist to leech off the belly of their employees to fill the wallets into a burst so powerful it could classify as an actual supernova on a scientific level."

I find it hilariously ironic that new pokemon games will no longer include game corner (which has gambling/chance games using in game money) BUT they'll put loot crates, which cost REAL money, in their new MOBA games!
When I think of the scummy practices in modern pokemon, I think of the Cram-O-Matic from the Sword and Shield DLC. Hear me out. The thing, once a day, can give you an item after putting apricorns in it. You mostly get crap. However, there's a less than 1% chance of something actually worthwhile. It's literally a lootbox but without the paying. They are using the main series as a front to normalize lootboxes so kids won't call it into question. That's the most amoral shit I ever seen.
Playing devil's advocate here. When I was a kid, I played the slot machines and other casino games to try and get Porygon and other goodies in the old games. Over time, I began to realize that it was neigh impossible to earn enough coins playing that way, and I generally lost more than I won. Thus, I learned that gambling is a total rip off and developed an aversion to it. This could have a similar effect and possibly turn kids OFF lootboxes.
@@Cyberguy64 That’s the reason I like the gen 4 gambling a lot. Voltorb flip is a classic, and actually requires skill to play and is pretty engaging. Although it isn’t as good as flip, the slot machines in DPP actually had an element of skill behind them, with an underlying logic you can pick up. I’ve tried to win the Fire Red slots through speed down and save states, but it’s super inconsistent whether or not you get anything. I’ve played those slots a lot, but I was never able to find any rule other than it’s impossible to get all 7’s twice in a row.
The shop items that don't list the pay currency can still be paid with the pay currency if you don't have enough of either in-game currency it asks for, and the loot box has a weekly limit to how many times you can use it and if you want to keep using it within that week you'll have to pay money to increase the amount of rolls you can have along with the obvious paying money to roll. Honestly one of the scummiest games I've ever played, it's fun until the game's online was having issues and disconnected me before a match started twice, but didn't remove me for the game, causing my team to report me for idling even though I wasn't even playing, and kicked me out of ranked until I played at least 5 matches for 3 days.
but the lootbox isnt needed... you can legit get enough shit without spending money.. i have a full build for physical attackers and special attackers... and that was without paying any money. I think the problem is people are impatient and want it now. so they spend or get but hurt when the loot box isn't what they wanted.
@@cerbusman the issue isn’t that people are impatient, the issue is that people are being rewarded for impatience. Since we're comparing things to league of legends. Zapdos is like this: Imagine when you take Baron Nashor all the enemy towers instantly self destruct and the nexus is reduced to 1 health. Now your team just rushs the nexus and hits it once for the game to end! And if the enemy team does it to you they do the same who cares who had more gold or towers or levels at this point in the game!
I've seen a good handful of games where getting zapdos isn't even enough to win, or that the team wiped after zapdos and only one or two got dunks in, or both teams just rush goals and both score 300+. I'd day about one in five of my games have these kinds of outcomes
@@williamcothrum9199 My strat is to completely dominate the early game as Absol in case of a zapdos loss to buffer the amount of points the enemy may potentially get. Ive had games where the enemy drops 300 points on us all at once by the end, but we squeak on by just barely

In defense of the game, I think its Play to Win rather than pay to win. At launch, this game was certainly P2W. You could buy item enhancers and end up with level 30 items week 1 and that was a huge advantage. However, as the life of this game goes on, it's become more apparent to me that buying level 30 items will only let you sweep the lower tiers of ranked or standard matches where the enemy team is incompetent. At the end of the day, Unite is still a team game and whaling to get max items still won't save your entire team if either you or your allies are not good at the game.
This must be what Team Fortress 2 feels like, except Team Fortress 2 is not completely Pay 2 Win. In TF2, you can actually get weapon drops just by playing the game (though it's only a chance that you can actually get new weapons). So you don't always have to spend money in the Mann Co. Store to buy new weapons (or even cosmetics for that matter).
Ooo boy I cannot wait for the [painful] and [heartbreaking] brilliant diamond review! (Also welcome Back Radical Soda it's been a while.) Editor's Note: When I am saying painful and heartbreaking I mean the game itself. These reviews are so well made and thorough on these games.
He's also a fucking allrounder, meaning he gets medium to high health and fast scoring... the dude can 1 v 4 and win with barely any damage done to him... I did this by accident... there's a bronze achievement tied to this... MEANING THEY EXPECT MORE BULLSHIT THAN THAT!
Holy crap I forgot this kind of radical soda existed I guess it's time to crack it open and see what's inside. Hopefully from the Hiatus doesn't just explode. Edit: my God I love this man's humor
Mostly because a good chunk of these games basically did what DOTA 2 did and followed the formula right to the letter, relying less on innovation to make the games distinct and more on loot boxes to fund them.
Yeah Genshin is a lot worse lol. good luck getting any up coming 5 star... you're gonna need a credit card. Pokémon unit is very fair compared to other gacha games like Genshin. Sure Genshin is beautiful but apart from their events it's basically login do your dailies and off.
@@cerbusman not exactly. If you want to be a F2P player on unite Good luck buying new Pokémon, you can either get them with coins, which the cheapest ones being 6000 coins. The twist is, you can only about 2000ish coins a week, the cheapest Pokémon are about 3 weeks worth. Good luck getting the best Pokémon who are 8000 to 10000 coins and about a month and a half of coins saved up. Not to mention you can P2W getting them all. The whole game of Pokémon Unite is P2W
One thing people also forget is even if they fix the pay to win, for those that pay, they're not only still winning, but prevent people from progressing. It slows progression down for those who don't pay, because in order to level up and get rewards you need to win, so people that are paying... ARE STILL WINNING!
This is just so wrong bud. I free played to Master Rank early after learning how the game works. Getting a head start on battle items doesn't suddenly make people good at the game. That said, I agree it's scummy of them to offer a faster advantage for real money. But calling it a win every time is just disingenuous
the people that paid before and are still winning are winning because they learned how the game works. Almost everyone has had time to max a core set of items by now. So it's ESPECIALLY not relevant this season. Just have to get good and drop the excuses
@@pumpkin7446 Yup, because this definitely applies to people just picking up the game for the first time who are gonna be at a disadvantage not only because they’re less experienced with the game than those who have had the time to learn how it works, but now also because those same players either had the time or the money to get a statistical advantage, and now these new players can’t even pay to at least get caught up in one of those areas. Yup. Definitely gotta just drop the excuses and get good while playing the game with a handicap.
@@xinf3ctdx Look at the numbers on the items before you try getting sarcastic about this shit. Items will not lose you the game automatically, which is what most of you make it sound like And... again that isn't even relevant anymore because you can now get at least one set for free pretty easily. I can give you advice right now that will make up for your lack of items, and if you and your team perform that way, you will climb because most players are just dogshit at this game, items or not
@@xinf3ctdx just to make myself more clear before you snap back without reading Yes, it's bad to have even small advantages granted earlier through money. I agree with that. It's just not as big of an advantage as people make it sound
You can draw a line under the popularity of Pokémon GO and perfectly split the good games from the bad ones to the day. The Pokémon Company made more that week than they had done in their entire careers, and decided that they were crashing this franchise with no survivors. People have gotta stop buying these things and start pirating the ever-loving shit out of the good games. I mean... Gen 3-7 is like... 10 whole games. Also play Yokai Watch.

to be honest it's super easy to get 3 items level 20 without paying.. the level 30 is overkill for most items.. You can get competitive items in a few days as a free to play..
tldr: zapdos is lame and there's an easy way to make him not lame bit of misinformation about zapdos I want to clear up: Zapdos only gives 20 points to the whole team, and only gives them to the players who are alive. Whoever actually killed zapdos gets an additional 30 though. Zapdos doesn't grant double scoring, that's just a thing that happens with 2 minutes of a match left. But either way, a very heavy handed and stupid "comeback" mechanic. It's literally the only part of the match that matters. If a winning team gets zapdos, just surrender then and there. If the losing team gets zapdos, they suddenly become the winning team. I used to play this game a lot with a few friends and if we somehow defended from an enemy push after they got zapdos, we'd legit pop off harder than if we actually won the match. A match shouldn't be decided over who gets *the last hit* on an NPC that spawns after 80% of the match has passed. I think that Zapdos should spawn at 2 minutes, stick around for 30 seconds, and whoever did the most damage to it in those 30 seconds would get a buff for the next 30 seconds (which i'll elaborate on in a bit) because the enemy zeraora hopping the fence and shaking hands with zapdos after my team spent the past 20 seconds beating the shit out of it is not fun. What's even more fucked is that he shows up even in ranked. Why have this dumb mechanic in the "skill based mode?" And another thing, why just zapdos? Like you said, every bird should be able to spawn and they could grant different buffs on kill. Zapdos could stun the other team for a bit and then grant halved scoring time, Moltres could apply a strong burn effect to the entire other team that makes them take a bit more damage when attacked, and articuno can slow down the other team. Each of these provide an advantage to the team that beat the bird, not a win condition. Hire me tencent. Actually no, I don't want to work for them. There's loads more I can talk about, like dreadnaw, there being so few maps in the game, how cucked blastoise got, but let's not turn this into an essay. Anyway, if you read this you're awesome.
@@bulgna im fine with double points. makes the end more intense, makes it so that the winning team still needs to try and play the game. Double poinst WITH instant scoring though? nah fuck that lmao

The Pokémon company have always been a money hungry exploitation company, especially when it comes to their games, releasing different versions of the same game with the only real differences being certain Pokémon or trainers being locked off to the seperate versions.
I will say, even when this was at its worst in terms of pay to win, I know a lot of people who got super high in the rankings without any money spent and with no or few maxed items, so as much as it should have been totally pay to win, the average player base was kinda bad enough that you could win anyways.
I played unite for a little bit and it’s alright. Nothing really spectacular but it was fun, too bad about the pay to win thing though, you can just dominate any game you play if you pay for enough upgrades
Yup, honesty people love complaining about the minor p2w aspect but the game is horrible for other reasons. Also wtf do they mean by « lootbox »? It’s litterally a non issue in unite. Oh the 100% free gacha that only gives cosmetics or very very very tiny amounts of free ressources.
The comment he makes about League and their sexy characters, I refute. They're allowed to have sexy characters, and they are equal opportunity on the sexy . Man or woman, they all get the treatment. Seen Mundo ? boy be.... too goodlooking
19:33 There are other objectives on the map already though.. the Rotom in the upper path becomes a temporary ally and can allow for instant scoring IF he touches the enemy goal, and the Drednaw on the bottom path gives your entire team a huge boost to exp. These spawn way earlier than the Zapdos, and become replaced by the Zapdos in the final few minutes, so there's always group objectives to take. Unless you meant randomly replacing Zapdos with the other two legendary birds, like with the different types of dragons in League of Legends (if they still have those?), that could be interesting... but Zapdos would still win the games that he is in lol
The fact that a mobile game has more character customization options than the mainline disasters of Sword/Shield and the Diamond/Pearl really makes you think wtf is going on at Gamefreak.
Honestly it was better at the start. We had more events with free stuff (skins), cheaper license prices. Actually updated ticket exchange shops. Pokemon that weren't made unbalanced by the virtue of their intended design (EX pokemon). Now they even gem-locked licenses for the first week and are trying out mini BPs, lots of worthless customization (avatar skins, card frames/BGs) locked behind gems only. I still like it but it's less friendly it feels like.

I feel like games with constant content updates are the only acceptable exception to the rule of "You shouldn't have a finished product ON LAUNCH" because the idea is that the product is getting new content consistently. Stuff is always changing, balance and what not. This doesn't excuse games from being pay to win no matter how slight it may be, it just means that your game isn't supposed to be the same thing it was at launch

Omg, you're right. I just thought it was an annoying gimmick but I never thought of it like that
...fuck
@@Cyberguy64 at least there was always one of the slot machines with a much higher chance of success so it rarely makes you go broke.
I'd never lost any kind of match in any Pay-To-Win-Games while spending absolutely nothing. How did I do that?
I Don't play them.

It's been common knowledge for a while that the number disadvantage is so small that it can only potentially fuck with people of equal skill.
Which...I agreed is still a bad thing. Just not an excuse for constant losses. Items will not lose you the game automatically, which is what most of you make it sound like
And... again that isn't even relevant anymore because you can now get at least one set for free pretty easily.
I can give you advice right now that will make up for your lack of items, and if you and your team perform that way, you will climb because most players are just dogshit at this game, items or not
@@xinf3ctdx just to make myself more clear before you snap back without reading
Yes, it's bad to have even small advantages granted earlier through money.

Nintendo is like the aunt that makes brilliant food but is obscenely racist.
So a great aunt?
tldr: zapdos is lame and there's an easy way to make him not lame
bit of misinformation about zapdos I want to clear up:
Zapdos only gives 20 points to the whole team, and only gives them to the players who are alive.
Why have this dumb mechanic in the "skill based mode?"
And another thing, why just zapdos?
Rotom is about as good as Drednaw now. At least if you take out the first tier goal first.
Also get rid of the double points at the end it makes no sense
@@bulgna im fine with double points. makes the end more intense, makes it so that the winning team still needs to try and play the game. Double poinst WITH instant scoring though? nah fuck that lmao
no not really. I've had some matches were my team won and Zapdos was killed by the other team. It might seem unfair but trust me if you got a good team you can still win.
@@cerbusman it happens but I'd say most matches are won by zapdos. I lost count of how many times my team was really behind, honestly just playing really badly and with a lvl disadvantage and then we stole zapdos somehow and now boom we went from 200 to 700 points

I will say, even when this was at its worst in terms of pay to win, I know a lot of people who got super high in the rankings without any money spent and with no or few maxed items, so as much as it should have been totally pay to win, the average player base was kinda bad enough that you could win anyways.

Hells yes, another Pokemon bashing! Love you calling out companies on their bullshit
12:46 The way that almost matched the meter at the beginning, I was getting ready for a musical number to start.
"Do I drink my own piss?" was probably the best way to answer that question ngl

Personally, outside of being a gacha and all the problems and that brings, the game is pretty fun. And gladly I don't need to give the game money with all the broken f2p units they give out
I feel like games with constant content updates are the only acceptable exception to the rule of "You shouldn't have a finished product ON LAUNCH" because the idea is that the product is getting new content consistently. Stuff is always changing, balance and what not. This doesn't excuse games from being pay to win no matter how slight it may be, it just means that your game isn't supposed to be the same thing it was at launch

If you want to suffer immensely by playing a MOBA why would you not play a better one like... like... oh right, they always suck.
@@PlatinumAltaria I would have said Path of Exile but that this isn't a moba game so I guess Dota 2 is better than League of Legends huh.
The concept of Mobas in general is highly addicting but at the same time so toxic that it can literally kill your mood, yet you drag yourself further and further just to end up with some baboons and loose that one important game which could rank you up. Especially if you are a SoloQ Player.
@@ZanarkandFFX probably why i stay away from mobas. i have not touched one in my life and probably never will. they’ve always seemed slow to me.
Bruh I played at South East Asia server and had decent ping, at least 30-40.
You can only get away with a line like that from the man Bear Grylls himself. "Do I drink my own piss?"
