I own this car and it’s amazing. The grill grew on me and I get more compliments than ever in the car because of its uniqueness. Coming from an M2 N55 (Long beach blue) I was really nervous about the change and so far it has been great! I chose this over the M340i because if it’s uniqueness and sporty feel. The car does not feel “boaty” like the old 4 series and is SUPER fast and very powerful at lower rpm’s I can do 0-60 in 3.92. The only complaint I have is the steering on comfort same as the m340i, complete trash, keep it in sport or sport plus and you are gold.
I like the grill. I agree in that it does lift the 4 series from the more conventional looking 3 series. The 4 looks classier and really stands out on the road now, so it’s a job well done.
Oh man that grill is gorgeous. Should be the grill for all bmw’s. If you’re going to spend thousands of dollars on an expensive car should atleast look different then all the other cars and stand out.
Hmm to each their own. E92 m3 is outdated. I drove my friend m340 and its way nicer. U cant beat the e92 v8 sound but thats the only thing i miss. The sound.
I have the 2022 m440i in Brooklyn grey. Get compliments on it weekly. Put a dinan cold air and a JN4 and it becomes a totally different car. The b58 is an absolute masterpiece and over built to take a ton of mods without risking the engine
I've had a few BMW's had a e90 335d M sport and took all the M badges of... then got an e92 M3 CP 2012 and see a e90 320d with a full on M3 badge... Soooooo wrong
For example M550i I much better daily car than M5. Those M light cars become best alternative for most drives to enjoy everyday comfort/performance/fun.

The newer grille instantly dates the older F series car. I wasn't sure when I first saw the pics but when I saw one in the metal, I knew it was the right design.
I still find the C43 to look amazing. Sporty yet classy and timeless. The 440i seems the design are all over the place. Aggressive in front but refined in side and back
i have a 420d xdrive in Blue, i was not a fan of the looks on its launch, but i must admit it grew on me, over time, and it gives it individuality from other BMW cars.
I visited my the BMW dealership and got to see one up close and it actually looks very nice, the car looks nice and the overall reception of the people visiting BMW where positive

I've fallen in love with the body of this car. I have to agree the M4 with its horizontal slats looks like some sort of legendary 1980s sports car and that is my dream car. The M440i is stunning, particularly in black but my dream car would be the M4 in Toronto Red with the black grille and wheels contrast. Does anyone know when the car reviewers will be able to test drive the new M3 and M4?
I can’t buy a car that makes me doubt it everytime I see it’s grill, the car is great everything is but that grill is unnecessary, the lights on the new bmw avoid one from looking at the grill, and the main fact that you say “all black” that’s basically you saying you won’t notice or see the hideous grill as much

I haven't found anyone whom i can relate to as much as you on the new M4 grilles As you said, you dont like the grille of the 440i because it's completely closed and it has the chrome inserts but like the new M4 Competition grille because it has a more traditional slats and also the shape of the grille has been slightly redesigned Another great review Raz... I honestly am starting to like it, but only in black... will probably go see an M440 in person, but I'm really starting to like this car the more I see it. Great review, I like that it's more of a grand tourer, I'd be looking at this as a daily with a bit of zip when I need more than an out and out sports coupe like you've said.
Morning Raz, I’ve spent lots of time on the cross trainer over the last few months recovering from knee surgery and have really enjoyed all of your reviews, thank you. Tomorrow is quite a sad day for me as my March 20 20 plate 992s goes back to Porsche as I’ve basically got my money back, I’ve been purely driven by my head on this decision, not heart. To fill the gap I’ve got a 440i MHT 70 plate arriving this week, sadly you’re less impressed with this car, thanks again.
It looks closer to Audi and Lexus design language. With this bmw lost its distinctive design that set itself apart and made it unique and more importantly, beautiful. But now it just blends in.. As an M3 owner, I’m not buying a bmw again until the head design chief either changes his design philosophy or leaves bmw.

As an E24 owner who is obviously quite fond of the small kidneys... this grille design is fantastic, and I hope to own one. I always found the massive inlets at the bottom and sides of the F-body to be glaringly large compared to the kidneys, to the level of distraction. By making the kidneys themselves large (and historical vertical as you've shown) it actually brings the attention back to the BMW signature. It's a departure, certainly, but a warranted one. With emulation from Japanese and Korean designers becoming more and more shameless I'm happy to see a bold design from BMW. Love it or leave it, this feels like a German alternative to the American muscle car (which I quite enjoy). If I were to nitpick one area, it would be the rear quarter panel. The distance between door and trunk feels endless in person, and the lack of Hofmeister kink is a bit of an unneeded reduction.
I picked up my 2021 M340 in the USA market last week. It has the 48 volt system. The exhaust is also muted compared to the 2020 due to the changes in the exhaust / powertrain (even in the US market). I think some of this was engineered due to the new M3 and MPerformance exhaust options now.
My biggest problem with this new styling is that it looks more Japanese than German - and it's not just the grill, it's the body, This car could be an Infinity o a Lexus.
The back makes me think about a bad lexus knockoff But with the front of the 8 series, it redeems itself And btw the m4 comp is 130 000€ on the road in France without options lmmmaaaooo, gonna buy a Porsche with that money
to be honest i loved the headlights from the first moment i saw them,the grill is bad but the worst part about the looks on this car is the side,i just don't like it bc it doesn't match the rest of the car, it got softer on the side profil.
BMW don't have designers, they are MAGICIANS & this corporate sleight of hand has more people trolling the brand than buying it (even if both those are record #s). Turns out this was just the warm-up for XM, their biggest & most powerful vehicle ever, hopefully now the pendulum swings back the other way as they halve ICE production for 25 neu EV & dedicated BEV 2025 Neue Klasse. I've seen track video of new Ms, anyone ignoring these because of GRILLE doesn't deserve 1, BMW are separating the drivers from the trolls.
It's too bad because the M4 package feels so much more balanced. That format is quite attractive. I will say if you want to stand out from the crowd the M440 delivers in spades and the car has a great presence. RBR was spot on with it feeling like a mini 8 Series.
Question regarding steering feel and sound. Was driving done in comfort the entire time? Asking because with a BMW usualy steering and exhaust sound changes greatly in Sport and Sport+...
Maybe BMW should put the grill at the back and the exhaust pipes at the front?? Just a thought. Kinda looks like a very dull version of the Pontiac Trans Am from the 1970's.

If I had the money, Id go for m4 no doubt, but only in that yellow color you had it and everything else blacked out. Looked really good like that.
Black out isn't too bad, but the chrome is disgusting. Shame about the steering feel.
I think the M Power version looks better. More aggressive and more capable to hold the special looking of the grill.
i wonder if the variable steering was the reason for that vague feeling. there were some negative comments on the last gen, not in m models tho.

On a black car it kind of absorbs the grill and it's less offensive. On any other color car that waffle iron is awful. Glad I got my M2C.

E92 M3 owner here. The M440i is 2 tons and hideous. I'm sure they'll sell a bunch but BMW has lost it's way for me personally.

Nothing wrong with the M branded ones. They are just like the Mercedes 43AMG (vs 63AMG) or Audi S (vs RS). It’s completely ok IMO.

A german design company called Prior Design already developed a „normal grille“ conversion bodykit.

I have to say on the „normal“ 4 series the front looks quite odd, but I have seen it in person on the new M4 and there it looks absolutly fantastic.

The rear looks terrible. The lights look like they have been pulled straight off a Hyundai Kona or even Elantra

The m performance kit makes a huge difference and really picks up the looks to the point that I actually like it a lot
