    Hi Olivia, congratulations on such a well-presented, scripted, and insightful documentary. It's surreal to hear of how the locals lived alongside and even formed friendships with some of the soldiers during the occupation. It provides solace to learn that there were German soldiers who clearly wanted nothing to do with war either, so congratulations again for shedding light on a perspective that not everybody would take when documenting this period. It would be great to subtitle this in Spanish and have it reach a wider audience, so if you ever wanted that - feel free to get in touch!

    Well done Olivia, you are a very talented young lady with a big future ahead of you. You more than deserved that 1st. This documentary really captures some of the Island history in a way I have never seen before. I came from Guernsey and now live near Winchester.

    Very well put together and very well presented. I could happily have watched more of that if it had been longer. I hope that you will make more similar documentaries.

    Thank you Olivia for disclosing the historical story of the Extremely Exceptional British territory Guernsey. It's more than an island 🏝️, it's an emotion of safeguarding every memory of the history and world war inside it's every particle. Perfect voice narration. 👸🙌🏻

    What a great documentary, told in the words of those who lived through those dark times. I’ve grow up with stories from that generation, some good and some not so good with regards to treatment by the occupying force. Well done 👏 hopefully as the press says you can make a longer version with more stories. You have a real talent, keep it up 👍

    Technically alderney is the most fortified island because it has more German bunkers than guernsey

    • @pagmonreal
      @pagmonreal 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually since Alderney is smaller, the bunkers per Km3 is the measure that matters

    A very human take on the toughest time in Guernsey's history. Insightful and enjoyable, nicely done Olivia. Particularly fond of the humanisation of Nazi soldiers like Rudi; it can be hard to remember that those young men were often the working class who found themselves between a rock and a hard place under a Fascist dictator.

    We arrived on Guensey the day before Liberation Day. In 2017. Not planned but interesting.
    I can say that there is/was a miltary emplacement on average every 500 metres on the Guernsey coast. Many just a shadow of concrete, some huge gun bunkers as well as many long predating WW2. The French and the English have been fighting wars forever in the area. Ditto for Normandy as well.

    I read a fictional book by Gayle Callen called The Daring Girls of Guernsey, it’s a very good story of the German invasion of the island of Geurnsey.

    You should all read Elisabeth George's murder mystery novel called 'A Place of Hiding'. It is fantastic. The writer includes all the elements spoken about here. It is a big book and I am on here now because her descriptions of the island is so profound. The story goes way back to WW2. Very dark, but also extremely entertaining with its twists too. Try it if you like reading crime. :)

    So glad the #guernseypress promoted your documentary. Listening to the part where the Islanders are speaking about the Germans - as another TH-camr said - very humanistic.

    Very interesting and great to hear from some of the last living witnesses of such momentous times. (Tiny teeny thing; never “the” HMS, just HMS. His/Her Majesty’s Ship so the before doesn’t work. As said only a tiny thing in a great documentary 😀)
