TerrainHopper triumphs in Medilink East Midlands Business Awards. Lincolnshire company TerrainHopper has walked away with the award for Innovation in this year's Medilink East Midlands Business Competition. The company collected the prize at the Innovation Day awards dinner held last night at the Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport.
Manby-based TerrainHopper was launched by Sam and Deborah Dantzie in 2010 to produce pre-production prototypes of an off road mobility product. Since then the enterprising couple has self-financed the opening of a manufacturing facility, patented and launched the TerrainHopper and are into the second production run. The worldwide market for mobility vehicles is expected to be worth in excess of £2.4 billion by 2015, with UK sales driven by Government legislation to increase access for the disabled.
Sam Dantzie said: "Our products are generating worldwide interest and this prestigious award recognises the innovative nature of our product. We manufacture in Lincolnshire and are currently expanding into new premises and creating new skilled jobs. Medilink East Midlands and iNet have been very supportive, showing confidence and interest in our amazing off road mobility product and we look forward to continuing with this valued relationship.
The Innovation Award is sponsored by Potter Clarkson. Partner Helen Johnstone said: "Potter Clarkson is proud to have presented the Innovation Award to TerrainHopper whose off road vehicle has enabled many people with mobility difficulties to have fun by participating in a wide range of outdoor activities across difficult terrain. As an East Midlands-based company we are very pleased to see companies from this region developing and commercialising such cutting edge products and obtaining intellectual property rights to protect their valuable innovations."
Speaking after the awards were announced, Dr Darren Clark, Chief Executive of Medilink East Midlands commented: "TerrainHopper is an excellent example of innovative design meeting a real need. The fact that the company is also manufacturing the vehicles in the region makes this a worthy award winner. We congratulate them on their early success and look forward to helping them as they expand."
TerrainHopper is automatically entered into the Medilink UK national awards which will take place in early 2014.
The Awards ceremony took place on the evening following the Medilink East Midlands Innovation Conference, which was supported by the Healthcare and Bioscience iNet project (part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). . This year's conference theme, 'Revolutionising Healthcare --What part will you play?' attracted over 200 of the region's leading businesses and academics in the sector

    I love this ❤️❤️❤️
I’m disabled and what a feeling of freedom this would bring. Just the freedom of being outside with family would be so wonderful.
I can only dream with social security the basic everyday things are sometimes to much.

Damn that is so cool, i'm in the process of getting an assistance dog and would love to upgrade my old scooter to one of those bad boys. Would definitely be able to play with my daughters in the sea then. Going to start save now.

Although the motors and batteries are waterproofed, you're right, salt water can corrode. You must hose down the TerrainHopper after being in sea water.

Why is it anything for the disabled person is so expensive? I just feel we are getting ripped off all the time. The manufacturers know we need certain items especially Wheel Chairs and Mobility Scooters but the cost of these are so high.
What is a Wheel Chair? Its a seat with a frame and wheels, so why does it cost so much.
I have just priced one of these Terrain Hoppers, it was £11500. You could by a decent 4x4 car for less with all the gadgets, so why does this cost so much? Sorry but the manufacturers dont seem to have any morals at all and exploit those that need and would benefit from such equipment.

@@peepresc8002 You obviously don't understand that if a business doesn't make a good profit, they can't stay in business. Especially in these days where so many companies are publicly owned. Investors want to see a profit on their investments or they take that money elsewhere. Not to mention sky high costs for research and development, patents, factories and employees, insurance, and insurance against likely lawsuits where people like you would probably sue the manufacturer is you so much as got your pinky bruised while riding it. Everything is expensive these days, and business aren't in business to lose money or to even not make a profit. If YOUR employer didn't make a profit, then how long do yo suppose YOU might remain employed and not even be able to afford a basic wheel chair? Now all that said, please keep in mind that I DO NOT work for this company so everything I say here is my own opinion. Their view may in fact be more like your own than you realize, I don't know.
So Cheerio mates from a cousin in America. (do you guys still say that, "cheerio mates" or was that just on saturday night live and benny hill ??

Hi there. The side roll bar can be lifted up from either side for easy access or can be completely removed. It's lightweight being made from high grade alluminium. Check out the beginning of the video and you will see how lady gets in. Can convert into a wheelchair as well. Check out other videos and see how it performs over rocks, mud etc.

Feeling sad now ive seen this. Im sad as there are many places I could go with this that I cannot get too on my own. I have a disability and have issues walking. I have a normal wheel chair, however with that overlander 4 I could go anywhere, im sad however as I cannot afford such luxury. What an amazing piece of work, id love to have one.

Great video etc., and very inspiring! But the consequences of that vehicle ‘hitting’ an area of soft sand doesn’t bear even contemplating! Never ‘tramp’ anywhere that your brain hasn’t been to 10 minutes beforehand!!

Is not there something needed to buy? 11500 € I think is too expensive for us the problem is that these vehicles are not as popular as a car and the single production of course goes into the money comes from the health insurance this does not participate in such a "luxury" handicapped but on life, politics and society take part in this point and the affected are then the plaything, they get to their disability with daily shared where their borders are or should be. I find that inhumane.
sorry but that must be said.
