Tennis TV said that Iga made only 1 unforced error in the first set. I have never heard of such a performance before. Also, Pliskova hit 1 winner for the whole match. Iga was fantastic but had some help from Pliskova who was completely off her game. Even her service game, which is usually very good with multiple aces, was very poor today.

Movement is why Gauff stayed close and Pliskova was eviscerated.

@@bohokomatiko8426 - Sabalenka is a beast with her power. Don’t think she will win on clay at Roland Garros. You have to really learn how to construct points on that surface. Hard to just overpower opponents. Barty is definitely a beast on the dirt. She could win it again.

Have to give props to Pliskova for not faking a medical injury to avoid the embarrassment. Heard she was already sick. We can poke fun but it takes great character to give the opponent a proper victory match.

In all seriousness, Plisokova may have not played that great but Iga was just amazing. Highly impressed her this week and feeling more confident about her chances of defending her title
You know I did mention that she was in a good place to win this tournament after that Krejcikova match! I was happy she didn't give away any free point at all on the serve and that's what builds up the confidence. She has one of the best second serves so I hope that gives her more confidence in the first serve

But the field is so strong that despite there being some favorites the field is wide open
@@Sander2335 Muguruza yes. I'm not so sure Badosa could go the distance though. Maybe QF, something like that. It all depends on the draw though, it's too soon to say anything with confidence. There's also Kvitova, Svitolina, Bertens and of course Pliskova who may have lost embarrassingly here, but she's got her chances. I would also like to see Sakkari perform well but I'm not putting her in the contenders. The field is wide open indeed.
It always make me happy to see a surprise first time Slam winner back that up with another big result.

Just now watching this, i hate reading the comments before and had no idea who won the match till i watched the end of these highlights and at 2-0 first set you just knew this match wouldn’t end well. But double bagel on championship Sunday in Rome, that’s iconic. We are witnesses to the beginning of something really special.

@@peterb6512 Iga's tennis was at the highest level, she completely dominated her rival. Her success cannot be diminished simply because Pliskova did not find herself in it at all and it was practically a one-sided match. Don't diminish her success, because it is wonderful.

She already faked an injury during last year’s Rome final. Baggeled in 1 st set, she retired in the 2 nd set to avoid humiliation!
HOLY ****! Iga is the new queen of tennis. Who could've beaten her today? Naomi? Ash? I would say no. Her game is complete, she is physically perfectly built for the game, with both range and quickness, and her forehand and backhand are of equal power. Strong service game as well. To demolish Pliskova in historic fashion -- two bagels in a high-level final! -- is beyond impressive. I would say the 19-year-old is more than ready for Roland Garros. Just wow.
Man do I love this girl. I have been a fan of hers from the beginning, but it just keeps getting better.
As far as I know this score has has only ever happened in two finals during WTA history prior to this match, when Aga Radwanska won against Cibulkova in the Sydney final 2013 and when Steffi Graaf won against Zvereva in the French open final in 1988.
10 times actually. There was even a 6-0 6-0 win from Evert against Navratilova. But it's the 4th time since 2000. Bartoli did it in Quebec and Halep in Bucharest.

Jeez that's gonna hurt for Pliskova. A double bagel is something no-one forgets in a hurry! Swiatek is definitely something a bit extra special. She generates so much power from her relatively small frame and is also really smart. She's almost like a combination of Henin and Hingis but with more power...that's a pretty lethal combination when you think about it!

I wrote yesterday that if Iga wants to win she has to force Pliskova to run. That turned out to be unnecessary.
For me this result is a surprise. I had a feeling that the Pole would win this match, but not in such a style. After the first set, I was sure that the Czech would not win even one game. There was no chance for that. It was a terrible match, one-sided. Unfortunately, it is not a good showcase of women's tennis, but what to do?
I am very happy that the Pole won this match and the whole tournament. She showed that her victory in RG a year ago was no fluke. This is her 3rd tournament win and I hope it will not be the last. I am glad that finally I have an opportunity to watch my compatriot who plays aggressive tennis with brain.

Trudno to opisać słowami. Iga nie zostawiła suchej nitki na bardzo dobrej Pliskovej. Gra kapitalnie!!!! Kiedy trzeba to subtelnie i delikatnie , ale jak trzeba przejąć inicjatywe to wtedy jest huraganem nie do zatrzymania. Dajmy tej dziewczynie czas, bo musi się oswoić z tym że za jakiś czas może być nr 1 kobiecego tenisa!!!!! BRAWA👏BRAWA👏👏I JESZCZE RAZ WIELKIE BRAWA👏👏👏 JJAAZZDDAA IGA!!!!!!!!!

Tylko że na trawie (najszybszej nawierzchni) musi być tip top ale naprawdę top praca nóg i dobre ustawianie się do każdego pojedynczego uderzenia. Właśnie taka Ashley Barty wykorzysta na trawie potencjalnie przeciwko Idze te atuty i Iga będzie musiała wtedy jakoś na to odpowiadać. No ale to wszystko teoria i hipotetyczne rozważania.

Anyone who plays tennis would understand that the scoreline rarely reflects the competitiveness of a match. However, in this case, Pliskova won a total of 13 points. Now that is truly an utter beating.
