- It's not often that a game with a premise as off the wall as Def Jam Vendetta finds critical and commercial success. It's even less likely that a sequel to said cult classic would be as good as the original, let alone better. 2004's Def Jam Fight For New York had a die hard fan base those 16 years ago, and I'm here to tell you today, we haven't gone anywhere. Buckle up, DanDans. On this episode of Triangle X Squared O, we're heading to the streets of NY.

When this game came out, it felt like EA was releasing gold for a few years.
I should play this game sometime
DUDE! You haven't played it at all? You're missing out! (Just avoid the PSP version, & don't even touch ICON, that was trash!)
Me neither but the game is too damn expensive
@@rickyrosay33977 True that! I wanted it for PS2 & someone wanted to sell a new 1 for 100 bones.
No-the-hell-thank-you-very-much!
@@jbzhummerh2gamer I almost had one in an auction for 60.00 but someone outbid me the last second
@@rickyrosay33977 Damn! But it shows you just how popular that game is.
FFNY is one of the most unique, bad ass fighting games of all time. I have played through the story multiple times, and I really wish I still had my GameCube so I could boot it back up and give it one more go around.
Gotta grab one on eBay, man. You won't regret it.
Emulator bro you can still use your disc
And also there is the PSP Version also called FFNY Take Over.
@@edwynbillingham6366 my computer can't run a gamecube emulator 😪
@@edwynbillingham63662 and a half years later I built a PC and absolutely downloaded an emulator to run it again. So worth the $1500 I spent on computer parts 😂
I miss these alternatives to WWE games.
We need them, especially now.
Dude. Yes
100% agreed, dude.
Agreed
Soon. AEW are planning to make their game and Virtual Basement has a bunch of indie talent attached to their project
I really liked this game they should do a remastered version
They should, but they won't. Lots of licensing issues.
616Entertainment that’s true, I meant to send you a message actually have you seen the new MK animated trailer
I just want them to make a proper sequel that doesn't suck ass like Icon did
Hey man I got a question have did a review on def jam fight for ny the takeover? I believe if you did you would agree that this video game is alot better then defjam icon
I would 100% support that and buy it!
Yes yes yes!!! Def Jam FFNY is such an amazing game! It’s so sad EA Won’t bring this back
Egh. It really is. Especially since so many people want it. But hey, we can't even get a fuckin Skate 4, so, that sucks.
I don't think you can necessarily blame EA. Might have to do with the rappers themselves and lots of money along with some other issues.
It definitely needs a rerelease
616Entertainment We all want a Skate 4. Fuckin EA, man
This game has arguably the most star studded cast of voice actor's. Crazy
You're not wrong, dude. It's stacked.
We lost DMX indeed. RIP.
RIP indeed, man.
Three games I hope to see another version in my lifetime:
Def Jam FFNY
Urban Reign(Pretty much FFNY mixed with Tekken)
Project Justice
If only, man.
beatdown fists of vengeance is similar to
These games bring back so many memories! Def Jan Vendetta was great I remember playing that when it came out when I was 14 or 15 back in the day then when Fight for NY came out in 04’ it just took everything to the next level. I remember dumping countless hours into this with my friends as well as loving the story mode. They seriously need to remaster the first two games or at least release them on ps4 and Xbox one. Great video bro!
I'd be all over it, man. Day one purchase.
This game takes me back to a time when developers were creative and wanted to gamble on games.
gamble on games, rather than gamble in them. HEY OH!
It's all the ways of the business, man. =/
Really good.

616Entertainment yeah these days it is
Bro, my buddies spent countless hours beating the holy hell out of each other. AND YOU GOT ETHAN PAGE ON THERE! Met him a few times, wonderful man. Keep it up 🤘🏻
Ego is the fucking best, dude. Super easy to work with. Tweet at him and tell you him saw him here!
Again you prove to share a common interest in damn good gaming.
I am a BEAST at this game. So disappointed they didn't continue with this format.
This one time a few buddies of mine had bragged they could beat me.......I took the challenge. Low and behold once the bell sounded,I get three fingers pointing at me.
One by one they dropped to my amazing prowess. The barrage of grapples ,hard strikes and wall beatings seemed to never end, but with each knockout my momentum built inside of me. Double team him the loser tells his buddies. They did. Reversal after reversal I chipped away at their health. BOOM!!!! Friend number two hits the floor in shame.
It's just me and a dead health bar.
Two pricks down, one "friend" to go.
I summon every bit of skill to just get the opportunity to put this guy down.he pulls a lunging hard haymaker to my immediate counter to wall stun.
BAM BAM BAMM!!!!!!
I Kicked their sorry candy a##es!!!!!!
We aren't friends anymore.HAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHA
This is an amazing story, man. Insane!
@@616Entertainment love that game!
Creating all the available styles was so fun to experiment with.
Any combo of kickboxing striking and wrestling would trump All others.
Even variations of just two of the thee styles proves fun.
I have the game on xbox.
Better dust that bad boy off.
Ooh, the memories! I remember when I first got this game one morning not knowing what to expect...and then I played it until 1am. I couldn't put it down! Thank you so much for covering this. This game is as underrated as you can get. My favorite part is when you mix styles together and get some really interesting combinations. My favorite was Street fighting and Submission. What was your's?
Man I don't even remember. I think I was wrestling/submissions? I was a huge wrestling fan at the time and just getting into MMA and wanted to have a hybrid style, but coming back to it all these years later, I definitely prefer the fast strikers to the slow wrestlers.
They should make "Soundcloud: Battle for Clout"
HA. Amazing.
I LOVE this game, replayed it numerous times!!
I played the hell out of this game back in the day.
Great call.
It’s crazy how in love with the AKI engine my friends and I were, and yet NONE of us had this game. I’m sure I would have loved it. Great video man, makes me regret missing out. Really looking forward to the WWE All Stars video - another game I never played haha.
Welcome to Triangle X Squared O - The 'Catching Up the Cap' Retrospective Series.
As much as I agree about your thoughts about "ICON", a review for it would be fun..
I'll tell you right now there will be no ICON review, lol. Sorry. Less than zero interest in doing that.
@@616Entertainment all jokes my man. I barely played it. One game I froze in pure confusion.. Took the game back shortly after.. Keep up with the great content.
It's not that bad 😂
@@616Entertainment Lol
Y'all remember how crazy these graphics were when you first played this game? Like this is one of the first games where I recognized the lighting. This game is legendary
Big time.
That ending hating on icon was perfect
Yessss Loved that video!! I was looking forward to it for so long. Totally worth it. Thank you for sharing this with us!
.
p.d.: My favourite venues were The Foundation, The Pit and The Limit!! Man those memories, those arenas made me feel this game very unique with all those interactions, background music and anouncers.
Thank you for watching, Agus!
Instant click bring it this game was legendary I'd kill for a hd port!
Wow I never really comment kinda glad I did lol
crowfan82790 yup
same here! id instantly buy a vendetta/fight for NY ps4 remaster
You and me both.
The licensing would be a nightmare I belive
Thanks for doing this one, I'd have to put Fight for NY in my top 10 games of all time. I absolutely played the shit out of this game, unlocked everything there was to unlock, went through story mode numerous times, spent countless hours in exhibition matches solo and with friends, it was just tons of fun. Even after upgrading to an Xbox360 and PS3 at the time, I'd always go back to my PS2 to play this one. I had no idea that there is a competitive community for this, that actually have a tier list and all, that's freakin awesome lol. It's so hard to imagine a Def Jam game being made nowadays because of all the copyright issues and all that, but it would be a dream come true, especially if they follow the pattern that was Fight for NY. Being from Miami, I'm biased to say a Fight for MIA is what I'd love to see lol but something like Def Jam: Battle for LA sounds more appealing as a comeback title. I honestly would be happy if they even just remastered this game and Vendetta and packaged it as a duo title.
I'm with you. As a Chicago guy obviously I'd like Chicago to be the setting for the new game (that we'll never get, lol), but honestly, I don't care where it is. As long as they made one and it was GOOD, I'm on it.
Popped huge for that Ethan Page cameo! Another solid video!
Thanks for watching! And yea, Ethan Page is awesome.
WAIT A SEC... THIS IS THE PLOT TO FAST AND FURIOUS 8! Betraying your family because you're being blackmailed to do criminal acts... just like Dom! Mind=🤯
Not only is this my FAVORITE ALL TIME fighting game this is one of my favorite games PERIOD! Also you killed me with the DEF JAM Icon joke😂. I'd love to hear the story about exactly what the hell went wrong when they decided to make that game it was God awful!🤬 How do you go from making one of the best games ever to making one of the worst games ever?
The FFNY to ICON transition was really, really insane. I don't get it. I won't be touching ICON at all on this channel, though, sorry. But thanks for watching!
What went wrong with ICON from what I've read was the higher-ups at EA pretty much acted like morons and decided to ditch the fast-paced over the top style gameplay especially the physics-defying finishing moves aka the gameplay that made Vendetta, and Fight for NY fun in the first place and replace it with a slower-paced simulation style gameplay similar to the Fight Night series. Yeah let's just say replacing the fast-paced over the top gameplay that was fun for a boring slower-paced simulation style gameplay was definitely a stupid idea.
I heard that the guy that took over didn't like wrestling games full stop and decided that cos he didn't then no one else would but because these were rappers he should put in that stupid hit the opponent on the beat bollocks, knowing it was shite still released it to basically sabotage the whole project and therefore proving his point, this does simplify the c while story somewhat
This game was amazing, the stats don't lie. It also opened my ears to new hip hop tracks and artists at the time. Good times.
Big time, dude. Thanks for watching.
I'm fortunate I bought the PSP version and can play it on the go. From what I remember, the PSP plays very similar to the original and not much was lost in porting it. Up until recently, the PSP version was available on the Playstation stores and you could get it for your Vita, but I think they've since removed it.
When the game first came out, I remember being angry that they removed a lot of the wrestling aspects in Fight for NY, but over time, I've come to appreciate it and now view it as one of the most unique AKI games.
To this day I still don't understand why a remastered version hasn't popped up yet 😕
oh dude I loved this game to death when I was a kid, thank you for this video, it was an amazing review.
Thanks for watching!
I've Never Owned the Def Jam games but I played them at my friend's house a couple of times maybe I'll actually get them and play them to completion I forgot how fun Def Jam was.
So good, man. Great memories.
"We've lost DMX"
We just did in real life :(
Unfortunately, yea. =/
How are you not at a mil subs already one of my fav channels ever
HA. I wish, man. Thanks!
I’ve always wanted to play these games they look really fun.
Highly recommend it, dude.
I second 616 recommendation!
I hope this video gets the love it deserves! Great retrospective of a badass game.
Thanks Maj, it's not doing as well as I'd like (at all) but we'll see how it does in the log run. -)
I loved Vendetta and Fight For New York so much in my younger years
Me, starting the video
"I wonder if he'll mention Def Jam Icon" 😂
Loved the first one, but missed out on this. Very sorry I did. Those fighting stages and match types are really inspired. Could you imagine a game like this at Evo tournaments? Def Jam needs a comeback
They have tournaments for this game! Not at EVO, but at other shows. When I talk about the community, near the end, those guys take it super seriously.
Yes!!!!! I can’t wait for wwe all stars! I really love that game. Thank you for announcing it, Ian. You are the best!
Thanks for watching! I try my hardest to create stuff you guys want to see. =)
Loved that Ethan Page cameo in the video 😂 hit me out of nowhere
Dude he's the best. I asked him if he was interested and he recorded the video and sent it over in minutes.
Games like DJFFNY is why I still play games on the PS2.
Hell yea, Shane.
I’m actually hyped for wwe all stars to show up on here I’ve played literally the hell out of that game just as much I did with hctp and sym but this wow nice vid mate and also I hope the person you give that copy to will love it I like people who give actual copies of games instead of just “having the game” (if you know what I mean)
I think he's going to be really excited with it. =)
When you said “words of encouragement spoken by a wise man”, I had a feeling you was gonna use Redman’s rant. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha, you saw it coming.
616Entertainment no lie, you gotta do Raw and Raw 2 on XBOX retrospective
Stick around, they’re on the list. It could be a while, but they’re on the list.
i love playing this is till have this game
Excellent choice to keep it, as the value has gone way up!
@@616Entertainment indeed it is i relsoy miss this series so much
One of the biggest reasons I want to pursue becoming a video game developer is to produce proper spiritual sequels to games like this. What I loved more than anything is the combat system; it balances the traditional fighting engine with wrestling perfectly better than any MMA game imo. We've seen nothing like it sense and maaan... I have some ideas.
I wish you luck, my dude. Go for it!
When you said 3rd game was never released I was yelling at the screen but that shit was funny...great vids bro
Hahahaha, I love it.
I still have this and always reply it every now and then, once it goes on its all I play till completion, every single time, #WhileYoureDownThereHowAboutYouCleanMyShoes

Thanks Richard!
The soundtrack for DJFFNY was 🔥🔥🔥 too
Watching this makes me want to go beat the game all over again 15 years later. As a matter fact, ill do it this weekend.👍🏾

Hey that land is probably fairly valuable.
This game is insanely expensive on eBay
That's why I gave one away. I was like let's get this thing in the hands of somebody who is going to love it, lol.
They even did a Def Jam Fight For NYC EVO like tournament.
I saw!
I need a third game to bring back the hero of the first game to fight the hero of the second game. Screw Icon. #DefJamUndisputed
I looooove this idea.
Loved Patches staring you down in the beginning, and overall this was a great game. Good review on a ps2 classic.

Cool thanks for making this video. I never had the chance to play this game but it looks awesome!
It is, man!
Logged hundreds of hours in to FFNY too. It was one of the best games for having a few friends over and having a crack. May have to dust off my copy for more Henry Rollins headbutting goodness.
Great shit as always brother

Yup me and my buddies all had our.own characters such a killer game
I still occasionally hook up my ps2 to play fight for NY.

It's pretty neat that they have side tournaments at EVO for DefJam:Fight for NY.
I think the mechanics need a lil more tweaking before a pvp tournament. It be fun af tho
It's really crazy, man.
My top 5 favorite game
MY favorite fighting game
Sure Vendetta was fun, but Jesus the amount of fun I had with this game. I beat it multiple times on all three consoles. This game was incredible. The soundtrack, arenas, match types, rappers, story, voice acting, celebrities, customization, secrets, rewards, challenges, gameplay, blazin moves and movesets are just so packed and jaw dropping. Its endless play. The Takeover was a really good handheld version. Sad we will never get a proper sequel or remaster. It holds a place in my heart. People need to play this game!
Agreed 100%, Evan. Great way to put it.
Loved both Def Jam games man, FFNY was awesome!
I think the more accurate phrase would be "Fight for NY is a unique wrestling game, but without rings"
You forgot The Pit (my favorite arena).
No I didn’t.
@@616Entertainment yeah, you forget it,you mention the scrapyard but not the pit.
